Is there a mahjong video game with an actual story? Seems like it would be a cool idea.

I'd be happy if there was any traditional board video game with a story in general
Shit would be pretty cool. I mean Yu-Gi-Oh and shit get some great RPG games. But can you imagine a mahjong game with a Suda51 story akin to Fire Pro Wrestling?
Why are we getting so many making threads recently?
Ain't complaining, majong is pretty cool
I only made it because I really wanna see if there's some obscure mahjong RPG. It's great timing for me since a lot of people are making threads about it.
I don't know how the trend started.
The story is already done. Pic related
The gameplay is already refined.
Just needs one more push.
Mahjong soul just came out in English it's not often people can play mahjong in English online. Plus, waifus.
>Asks for Mahjong video game
>Gets a manga
Well uhh...okay user?
I was mostly talking about missed opportunities. Saddens me every time the topic of Mahjong video games comes up.
As much as I like Akagi, I can't imagine it being a hard sell except for the most enthused players in such a niche
Games like Yu-Gi-Oh! were already established as manga appealing to young adults
Something like chess playing a main role in a video game seems more likely out of sure historical presence. An interactive Magnus Carlsen or Paul Morphy autobiography sounds pretty cool imo
Yeah. Looks like the time for that was definitely in the Super Famicom era. I was replaying MLB Power Pros and I just thought holy shit that was a really fucking fun campaign mode. It would be pretty cool having a Mahjong RPG in which you'll be forced to go against people cheating and the story will alter based on if you win or lose certain events.
I'm envisioning an RPG where mahjong somehow provides the basis for spellcasting. Like they're runes or something.
Sounds like enough to start a Patreon.
Oh shit homie. You made me think of a good idea of a game.
1v1 RPG type game where you fight kinda like Puzzle fighter but with mahjong tiles. Calling Mahjong nets you an attack and the damage is based on how strong your hand is. You discard tiles at the same time and you can press a button to (chi/pon/kan) when the opponent gives you a tile. It'll be reaction based as well.
There are some Saki games.
>Yuri
Yuck
I've watched multiple videos on how to play Mahjong, but I still don't get it.
Legendary Gambler Tetsuya for PS2
You can use cheats but most of your opponents do so as well.
no english release or translation
you just have to learn four sets and one pair and then work from there
this one came to my mind as well. it's a pretty good game with a story to it.
That looks pretty cool. Mind telling me more about it? How does "cheating" work? How's the story mode like?
>Is there a mahjong video game with an actual story?
Yes, this one.
I would assume this is something that /tg/ would cater but alas, it's just pen and paper d20 goblin rape stuff.
there are
there are so many variations of mahjong wtf
which ones should I bother to learn??
my dream story-based mahjong game would involve you going to a bunch of mahjong parlors and seeing how much cheating you can get away with
basically akagi the videogame
Riichi is the only one that matters.
Basically Saki games, a series of which I was an avid fan of once, but even I can't breathe anymore in its dense yuri atmosphere.
How do I become pro at Mahjong? I worked beside a casino that has a weekly Mahjong tournament and I want to put a bunch of old woman in their place.
it looks hard to learn but it's really not
Probably Chinese or American Mahjong. Everyone in this thread plays Riichi
Those old women will kick your ass til kingdom come. Especially if they're old Asian ladies. You'll never stand a chance.
Why does v play riichi over the other ones?
>tfw got Heavenly Handed
So much bullshit. I'm kinda glad this game is dead but I miss it.
Gotta have a lip
Because theres anime of it. But also because it's more interest than Chinese Mahjong and not as fucked as American mohjong.
Riichi is the most competitively viable one, whereas Chinese rules are for gambling and extremely variable by region and American rules are a meme that changes every year so you have to buy all new scoring sheets constantly.
Plus Riichi is the nip ruleset and thus the most likely to be featured in Vidya. A new Riichi game in English just came out as well.
Yakuza most likely.
Does that mean American rules is Warhammer 40k?
Why the fuck is Kemono Mahjong the best android app, and why the fuck isn't there a version with normal anime titties or something? I'd rather have no portraits than deal with that shit.
Maybe you could make a mahjong vn where you get to rattle some girls in between
Pretty sure that's a thing.
>doesn't name one
There's several of those.
Sick
American mahjong is jewish mahjong. I'm not joking. Pretty much anyone you can find playing it is jewish
It still baffles me that Kemono Mahjong exists. Like not only was he catering to the small audience of english speakers who play mahjong, he was appealing to the very small niche of GAY FURRY english speaking mahjong.
Great app tho
That's why they have new sheets every year to make money.
>jokers
>6 of a kinds
>do the mashed potato before starting the game
>random bullshit hands
Beauty and the Beast gba game.
Does yakuza count? The quest missions at least
Based
cute!
>a mahjong video game
Which one is best for learning Riichi has tutorial mode or something like that on PC and PSVita?
What game?
If you just want to play against CPUs then Maujong is fine.
theres a bunch of nice solitaire games
Mahjong Soul
Just learn the basics.
Make 4 sets of consecutive numbers of the same suits and a pair
Don't Chi unless you've got 3 dragons or you're going for a full straight because you're fucked otherwise and usually can't go out
Only Pon for a third dragon or a third of your seat's wind (if you're east wind, pin that 3rd east wind tile) unless you want a hand of all triplets otherwise you're usually fucked and can't go out
Make a hand of only pairs if you've got a lot of pairs
Kan if no one has called riichi or if you're feeling ballsy
Don't get ron'd so look at tiles other people have discarded
What version is that in your pic? All I can find are chinese and japanese ones.
Switch got a port of an old mahjong eroge
Also I think some other mahjong game came out a few days ago that's getting a ton of advertising.
What do you mean? It's the english version
mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
yeah that's mahjong soul
it's been getting a lot of attention because it's basically tenhou but 10 times more convenient and has anime tiddy
it doesnt have a 3p queue though..
>3p
>2011+8
>playing 3p mahjong
stop bullying 3p or else
Is riichi mahjong popular in China? I'd imagine they'd be playing their chinese style of mahjong over japanese.
Ah, from your pic I thought it was a mobile game.
Let me guess: You just watched Akagi?
NANTOKA NAREEEEEE
There are so many regional variants of mahjong in China that I can't really find any consistent ruleset that would qualify as "Chinese rules". The best I can tell of the major differences
>There's no riichi, obviously
>Some of the yaku are different and there aren't as many
>Opening your hand makes no difference to your score
>You don't need any yaku to win. In this case you only get the points of the fu.
>Scoring is slightly different.
>No dora, instead there are flower/season tiles which automatically give you bonus fu if you draw them. They aren't part of hands, you just put them aside if you draw them and then draw another tile from the dead wall. If you draw the flower/season matching your wind you get an extra han, and if you draw all four of a flowers or seasons it's yakuman.
There are variations on all of those in different rulesets but those are some of the common differences I've found.
Thank you, but I happened to know the basics, you've omitted some things like dora and scoring hands the letter could be found as lit or on wiki, though. Anyway, nevermind, I've found what I need.
>Don't Chi unless you've got 3 dragons or you're going for a full straight because you're fucked otherwise and usually can't go out
What is All Simples then? You've forgot it.
RICHII IPPATSU DORA NII MANGAN
