$599+ and 1 or no games

I probably won't be getting an index, but I'm still excited to see a new valve game and hopefully it will also be playable in non-VR but I doubt it. I'm expecting the headset to be expensive so the only thing that would disappoint me is if they don't announce a single game.

I only have the 14 year badge on steam. When I reach 15 years I'll get my complimentary valve gf.

Attached: 1555531910148.webm (1280x720, 2.77M)

I expect something similar to the vive pro spec wise, with a much wider FOV. I've already gotten to try the knuckles, so i know what i'm getting.

Hoping for $499-$599 price range just for the HMD + Knuckles. I'll probably buy it even if it isn't. My oculus is on its last legs, i'm not all that sure if it'll survive to shipping time.

Being serious here, is this guy mentally stable?

$1000 for a full bundle

so what happen to vive?

he's fine. I imagine it can just get tiring when you're livlihood depends on such an unpredictable company, that and college. he's unironically a good journalist though and im sure he knows that.

Am I supposed to know who this is?

No, he keeps believing half life3 will release and still defends valve to this day

Hardware at or better than VIVE Pro, eye-tracking and FOViated rendering capability, inside-out tracking capability w/ real world "overlay/warden" mode so you can pick up a glass off your desk without taking off the whole thing or have it show you obstacles when playing room scale etc, reasonable price (ie under $1000 for the good version of the whole fucking thing. Preferably more like $500-600 for the kit depending on specs and what it includes), wireless capability, forward-looking specs and connections (ie USB 3.1, latest display port etc.), ideally modular so it can be upgraded in the future, knuckles controller included and future support for haptic gloves with Knuckles offering better controls compared to existing hardware, Linux support from the start...

If they can get most of that it will by far be the best VR solution around.

when he watched the game awards live on stream he played tf2 music over the top of every trailer and laughed like an insane person. he's broken.

I expect foveated rendering or some other tricks, since the system requirements are similar to current gen VR. If so, it will change the game.

They just copy pasted the rift system requirements as a placeholder. The store page leak didn't have finalized information.

I'm crossing my fingers so fucking hard that Valve is going to sell it at a small-moderate loss with near Vive-pro specs. They seem to really want to push VR and if any company is going to do it, it's probably going to be the company that can make it back in a weeks time. Even if it's not "cheap" I'm still on board if it's sub $800 with top tier specs. Although my understanding is you need to buy the controlelrs and the sensors seperately so who fuckin knows at this point? Soon.

man, if this thing doesn't run on a i7 3770 im gonna have to pass. i already know i'm going to have to upgrade my graphics card but there's no way i can do a full system.

Is he right?

Attached: twitter fag.png (576x399, 51K)

tl:dr but yeah it's not a good idea for a company to sell a product under cost. in fact it's a terrible idea.

I wouldn't say it's entitlement but just a lack of understanding on how business works.

I mean we still have people on Yea Forums who unironically don't understand that non-physical games still cost money to produce.

Plenty of companies sell shit for under cost knowing they can make it up from software, but that's probably something Valve can't pull off, even with some new game with it.

No, because if a firm sells a product at a price people don't want to pay it doesnt fucking matter what the input costs are.

Otherwise fuck no.

Do you think foveated rendering will reduce the requirements of VR from what it is now or only keep it to a sane level as screen resolutions increase?

that really is the problem in pavlov: a light toss of the grenade will send it into orbit. I literally have to drop it into rooms.

>Announces he's leaving. Twice.
Yeah we get it. Piss off already.

It won't do shit.
Foveated rendering won't stop the effects of rapidly increasing resolution combined with heavier graphics detail, soon you'll need at least at least 2060 equivalent to run every game optimally at the native headset resolution.

Current toasters won't be able to run VR ever. But 2025 "toasters" will definitely be able to handle it with foveated rendering.

>eye tracking

I’m fucked, right?

I love my lenovo headset, but I hardly use it anymore for 3 reasons:

1) I live in a small apartment, and it's hard to play VR without bumping into shit, even with borders set up.

2) Any game that uses any mechanic aside from teleportation makes me queasy the instant I move around.

3) Prolonged play sessions leave me with intense vertigo, "prolonged" being more than an hour at a time.

I'll be far more interested when a VR headset, or software comes that gets rid of the motion sickness. Also some sort of "space saver", 360 degree treadmills are a neat idea but they're way to fucking expensive and bulky.

Yeah makes sense. It would only really help with higher fov.

I started lurking there two or three weeks ago, and it's like this almost every day, lucky if they can get a full week without some mod power vacuum and server shutdown after shutdown. I asked about if theres a recap I could read and and pointed in the direction of what was more than a dozen war & peace length archive threads that all just seem to follow the same cycle of secret discords outside of already existing secret discords because divide and conquer and be the cool kid who controls the vrc clique. Literally high school popularity pissing contests.

Same old shit. They post screencaps of all the Eyes Wide Shut shenanigans they get into. Though there are a handful of anons who pop in and set up a room to play The Forest and Pavlov so it's not a complete circle jerk, but most of the time there's so many references to whatever vrc cliques are going back and forth that it's all the same to me.

All right you fags, I have an oculus and was thinking of this when I decide to upgrade, My only concern is the damn controls. In that case, you can't.

Fug, I hope the Knuckle is good then because I'm really not fond of the wands.

Why would you buy a Vive at this point

Attached: 1412974055971.jpg (450x737, 107K)

I wouldn't, but I was just going off of the assumption that if someone got the controllers to work with the vive it would be highly likely to get them to work with

Personally, the Knuckles don't really look that impressive. Yeah, they're probably better than Touch, but it doesn't really track your fingers exactly where they are, only their up-down movements. It's just a more involved version of the analog button press we had on the Touch, and probably harder to implement since all of your fingers need to be off the controller to not be gripping something.

are you worried about going from PCVR to quest? im no quest hater but i imagine it would be hard since you're losing a large amount of games

Riftcat probably works with the thing.

desire is the root of suffering

Good thing I rented my Rift. When my cable broke, I just send it back and got a new Rift as replacement.
As soon as the Index is coming out I just send the Rift back with no questions asked.

>renting consumer electronics
Excuse me?

The headset alone should be that, because the temporary page that was up said it was separate
The whole set can't be more than $400 or they gonna lose

VR is just a niche market so renting that shit is the high IQ choice.

According to the internet 20 bucks a week; They make 500 bucks on the rental on top of the actual sale price by the end of it.

It's something extremely poor people do, and it costs them far more money in the long run.

Yeah I feel the same way. All these other games seem pretty meh but Minecraft just seems cool as fuck with the scale of buildings or claustrophobic caves.
I want to feel that so much

I pay 20€ a month for a minimal rental time of 6 months. I already got a brand new Rift since the cable on the old one broke without paying extra.

You know you could have just bought and resold your rift after 6 months and saved money, right? Hell, you could have just got a new cable on warranty.

I'll never understand the mentality of people who rent.

Because not everything is an investment and instead of going through the hassle of dealing with customer support you just send it back and get a brand new Rift instead of just the cable.

When they become cost effective enough to sell to the mass populace at a price everyone can afford?

This sucks. I thought about getting into VR but with this coming out I'm going to have to wait to see how everything plays out and what kind of support it will have right away.

>the VoRange box

Vive/Rift has horrible SDE, things like aiming down ironsights or reading text is really rough

Attached: sde begone.jpg (2276x1268, 595K)

I have a fair amount of VR games most of which are room scale. Most of which I couldn't get into beyond first impressions.
Funnily enough I've spent the most amount of time playing Il2 with a hotas.
The only room scale title I play every now and then and enjoy is H3VR and even then the simulation is not as detailed as I'd like it to be.

Craving a good atmospheric RPG that I can get lost in.
The best I've played so far was Vanishing Realms but it is nowhere near the quality I desire.
I just couldn't get into orbusVR, the UI design was god awful the only thing I liked about it was the compass and stowing items behind your shoulder. And the combat felt like a load of garbage.

There is some early access stalker knockoff being developed for VR, the quality looks poor but it is better than nothing I'll be keeping an eye on its progress.
That panzerwehr mech sim where you pilot a spider mech looked interesting but still fairly crude.

Too many titles made on a shoestring budget, encountered some interesting mechanics here and there but I am yet to find something worth sinking my teeth into besides flight sims.

It's gonna be shit not even better than the pimaxx/starVR, all Valve had to do was put in the latest hardware and sell it at a lost since they have billions of dollars backing them in case its a failure.

Should I sell my Vive yet?

Price of them is only going to go down when details start circulating

I'm not a target audience for anybody, motherfucker. Don't assume shit. I'm just asking for general information. If $500 is not enough to run it and I need more or if I need to build a custom rig, then just say that.

It's hard to tell since we don't know what it brings to the table. and considering how retarded HTC was with the vive pro, the price could be anything really.

There's no such thing as non-custom rig, you're just overpaying for someone else to build the PC for you.

I'm just hoping the process is reasonable so more people can afford to get into VR. The biggest problem with VR is cost prevents a lot of people from giving it a chance.
