3rd party studio appealing to western audiences based on what Capcom thought the west wanted.

Haven't played it but I heard everything that made the first two fun (mechs and grapple hook) were dumber down.

I watched the recent GVMERS retrospective on the series having never played 3. Was its story really as good as the video implies?

I can't even remember how the first one ended. The first one at least had the most annoying difficulty spikes I'd ever encountered. Let me guess, Captain America in Dinosaur Land didn't get to plow Tits Mcgee at the end?

Nah story was kinda meh and ignored a lot.
Which is really a shame as there was room in the concept for a lot of good shit.

I got stuck at some big VS boss fight in a hangar and gave up. Loved and played through LP2 numerous times though

Well yeah, these two games’ fates were pretty much identical. Games made with a Western audience in mind, then given to a Western studio with not even half as much talent as Capcom. Inafune giveth, and Inafune taketh away.

Looks a lot like Seann William Scott to me. I could see it being some straight to dvd bullshit syfy movie. But yeah the game sucked unfortunately and it wasn't that surprising.

The characters are shit, the story/world is shit, dungeon design is the worst in the series, final dungeon is pure cancer and again worst in the series, it's just a less fun and more bloated FF1.
Everything FF3 does, FF5 does better.
In fact FF5 just feels like a REmake-style remake of FF3.

FF1 is still better as a game, since it has better and more focused gameplay, better itemization, better world map, better story/lore, better soundtrack, better dungeon design and better finale.
The only thing worse in FF1 than in FF3 is the Job system, but FF3 loses to FF1 in everything else.
