So Shantae Half Genie Hero was my first Shantae game
Then I played Riskys Revenge and now I'm on Pirates curse, and I can already tell just in the beginning that this feels like more work was put into pirates curse than half genie hero. The sprites look better, there's more mechanics, the pirate weapons are fun to use, and looking at half genie hero it just makes HGH look lack luster.
I hope for Shantae 5 whatever they decided to do with how the characters sprites look they either go back to detailed pixel art or at least put s bit more effort into the animated flash style of motion tweening it looks like they were doing and work more on the mechanics and things to do in the game
Also Shantae thread whatever, go post your borderline porn
Oh shit, well then maybe I'll grab it Shut the fuck up and let me enjoy things faggot, I play it cuz it's fun not because I'm on the hunt for a specific genre
Josiah Scott
Yeah HGH was a fucking mistake. Pirate's Curse is the best game in the series.
Luis Davis
I want to hug Shantae
Mason Murphy
Will we ever get a game like Shantae 1 again?
Grayson Davis
Is it actually good? Genuinely curious how this game worked and looked on a gameboy
James Cooper
Isn't Monster Boy the same kind of game as Shantae 1?
Jason Lopez
Me too
and rub her feet
Ryder Garcia
>Shut the fuck up and let me enjoy things faggot Cry harder
Caleb Perez
It's good but it would be great if it didn't suffer from the Gameboys limitations. The tiny resolution makes it impossible to see anything and you often have to make leaps of faith because you can't see whats in front of you or below you. But that's the only fault of the game.
Eli Fisher
Its only real flaws are the small viewport making some jumps leaps of faith and the difficulty spike right out the gate (it gets much easier after making it to the first dungeon). Other than those, the game's a real gem. I think it's one of the top three games on the system, and it's a technical marvel to boot.
whats the superior one? i kinda like this one desu
Brayden Wood
>now that that superior one exists. haven't seen any pictures of it, source?
Nicholas Cook
Sorry, had to go digging through my likes on Twitter I'm not sure if it's still paywalled since it's been a little while now or if someone released it into the wilderness, but I think it looks better in general. The face for the other one always threw me off.
mouth on that one needs some adjustment but yeah that does look a bit better
Jack Morgan
Pirate's Curse had the leverage of working with sprites and animations already built from a previous game though. Half-Genie was all from the ground up so it could be partially excused from being so condensed.
It remains to be seen if Shantae 5 will built from what started in HGH or try to reinvent the wheel again.
I really don't understand the hate for HGH. I think it's at least better than RR. I'd probably rank the games like PC > Shantae > HGH > RR
Kayden Lee
>that does look a bit better Only a bit? The old one was complete trash. Looked like some whore trying to cosplay as Shantae. The new one actually looks like her and doesn't look disgusting.
Adrian White
wayforward twitter made some mention about them not making it for 3DS like HGH because they want to take advantage of the HD display again. yes i know that there's such a thing as HD pixel sprites but it still makes me worried that they're just gonna do some weird looking puppet animation again
Carson Carter
i didn't say i hate HGH, it's one of my favorite games, its soundtrack is fucking banging and the art is still cute and likable, i'm just preferring the mechanics and playstyle of PC a bit more so far.
Angel Morris
Don't play it on 3DS, there's a save deleting bug that sometimes occurs when collecting baby warp squids. Killed my interest in playing the game any further.
Anthony Barnes
>check gumroad page >there's also a Rottytops model holy shit yes sucks that they're paywalled but they look really good
Jace Anderson
That's understandable. If Wayforward would ever get around to perfecting the transformation system, the genie format might actually stand a chance against the simple but effective nature of the metroidvania format.
Logan Thompson
goddammit
Jonathan Allen
Does anyone think we'll get more info during E3?
Aaron Ward
I don't think so. Feels too soon.
Wyatt Bailey
I would hope but I feel like it's not big enough to get it's own E3 spotlight
It's still pretty niche of a game isn't it?
Nathaniel Jenkins
This too. Although these days I could see Microsoft giving them a highlight what with all their indie worship these days.
Xavier Jones
It's the nose. When the artist posted wips of the model with a more anime looking nose, the model looked fine. But the final model looks really off with the nose it ultimately got.
Isaiah Ross
Does wayforward still technically count as indie? They've been around for 25 years and have had their games get put on big platforms for a while now
Joshua Morales
Good thing I mostly only pay attention to the footjob videos that get made with that model
Wyatt Howard
They're still a pretty small company, regardless. So yes, they're indie.
Evan Barnes
>that one video of her and squid
Isaiah Flores
>Then I played Riskys Revenge and now I'm on Pirates curse, and I can already tell just in the beginning that this feels like more work was put into pirates curse than half genie hero Risky's Revenge was originally going to be an episodic game that you'd download chapters from on the DSi shop, more areas, longer story, etc, but they had to cut that down into what it is now. Pirate's Curse is pretty much most of the assests from that planned expansion and then some.
It doesn't need to actually be at any E3 stage or booth for developers to divulge new info about their game; some publishers and devs in recent years just release info to the press and public during the E3 window to generate more hype; why do you think the "E3 is dying" phrase has been thrown each new year?
Jason Rivera
>best game is the one where the MC loses her standard abilities Never fails to make me laugh
Independant developers need publishers to release their games in large scale, something that Wayfoward hasn't done in years as they just do production themselves, in fact they have published games from actual indie devs a few times before; so no, Wayfoward is not an indie company, they are just small.
Asher Howard
Wish they'd get better physical releases
This limited time and supply nonsense sucks.
>Oh hey cool a physical copy of pirates curse on PS4, didn't know those exists >100-200 or more dollars
At least I own physical copies of HGH on PS4 And pirates curse on 3DS
Aaron Miller
I'm proud of you guys for not devolving this into a porn dump
I just got back from a three day vacation so I don't wanna risk anything otherwise I'd be doing exactly that.
Angel Brooks
That's fair, I know that feel
Jeremiah White
The thread will just die though, in fact it was dying before you posted so it shows Shantae is only for image dumps.
Easton Cooper
It was nice while it lasted. Most threads with actual discussion die anyways, the meme, image dump, and shit tossing argument threads are the ones that stay alive because they take little to get interaction. It's got nothing to do with shantae, it's just a general fact about this shithole
I feel like it would,it already has a Saturday morning cartoon vibe to it
Get an anime studio to do it or hire the wakfu animators
Colton Parker
Dear god Id love it the people who did Wakfu adapted the Pirate Master fight.
Nathan Rivera
"Hot take", but I think image dumps are fine if they circulated other characters or were more centered around the different stuff that's in Shantae. The issue is that most people are more interested in pin ups.
Yeah, could easily work as a show, since it can switch between comedic side stories to adventures. Get a french studio to do it, like Ankama.
Pirate's Curse is the best game. I can't even bother with Half Genie Hero. The hitboxes are all fucked and the game looks like it was made on flash. Ahh yes *cracks a red bull* *look at the prices for a copy of this game on ebay* Nope.jpg
I've only played Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero, am I missing much?
John Scott
First game's fairly solid, but dated. Worth a play but can be somewhat frustrating at first. Second game's fairly small, but it does explain how Shantae lost her powers. Haven't replayed it in a long time, but I think it's a fair enough skip, especially since most people start with Pirate's Curse anyway.
