With a MMO, I see my character as a self insert so I play as a girl. In other games where you can pick the gender, it depends on the atmosphere and style of armor that determines if I play male or female.

For example: It felt more fitting to play as a male hunter in Bloodborne than a female hunter. In Dark Souls, it felt more fitting to play as a male with a strength build with a big sword/shield but I made a female when I dabbled with magic or dexterity build.
