Emulation can be a bitch due to how much TWEWY took advantage of the DS hardware. I’d personally recommend the mobile version. It’s simplified compared to the DS version but has some upgraded graphics and the gameplay is still fun. Plus, the expanded soundtrack is a blast.

Unfortunately, all the non-DS ports of the game remove the partner system, which is one of the best examples of thematic gameplay elements. Losing that is like losing half of the game's message to the player. If you have no other way of playing it, then this will do (or preferably on the Switch where you can use 2P mode as a substitute), but TWEWY is best experienced in its original incarnation.

I agree. TWEWY took advantage of the DS hardware in insanely fun and creative ways and it’s sad that the ports haven’t been able to take advantage of that aspect. That said, I will recommend it to just about anyone due to how much it still holds up even to this day.

Is the switch version of TWEWY any good?

It’s decent. Has upgraded graphics and more music and content but the Joycon gameplay can be very hit or miss though handheld mode plays fine. I personally prefer the DS version but it’s not a bad way to get into TWEWY.
