No
depends just how brainlet you are. shouldn't be too hard and especially the combat isn't hard to figure out. just stick to guns
Don't but the steam version.
It's pretty easy if you play a diplosniper and start using energy weapons towards the end
Small guns build will get you through 40% of the game. Charisma ,will get you, through the rest
I already have it, from way back haven't played it yet though, why not?
What's wrong with the Steam version?
You have to fiddle with it a lot to get it working.
ah I'm OK with following guides to get older games working from shit like pc gaming wiki, not that brainlet
just don't do what i did and find yourself in the glow without enough radaway and only one save.
also, get fallout fixt, it's a great package that has loads of mods and fixes.
Thanks I'll check it out
if you're an fps guy, the difficulty isn't what will stop you, the incredibly slow pace will.
don't be a retard and disregard the combat skills and you will make it out OK
No but make sure you know how the stats work when you make a character. High Agi is a must in 1 and 2 because that's how many actions you can do in a turn
So it should be half n half combat skills and shit like charisma/medicine?
first aid and doctor are shit, I never understood the point of them. you get plenty of stimpacks and the town doctors will always be there. outdoorsman isn't really that useful either in fallout 1
charisma is a must imo for dialogue options etc, but you can roleplay as a tactless dunce if you want, it's quite funny to do that. i find it's very difficult to play a non combat build though without sacrificing characters/quests/companions. try and balance between combat skills and key survival skills and charisma maybe.
since you're new i would take gifted and finesse or fast shot traits, high intelligence and luck, and focus on guns speech and lockpick
I c thanks man
Not really, just remember that you will not get energy guns untill the midgame, so better pick something for a beginning.
Aren't dialogue options mostly int/speech?
fallout fixt is a must have if you actually want to play the game properly
yes. charisma is for companions iirc
Just use Fallout Fixt
Put 10(or 9 and get the upgrade later) into agility.
It's not an fps though?
Put all your points in big guns, barter and traps
Thing is, you may as well get the GoG version which is drm free, often as cheap and they actually patch games themselves so they always work.
yeah I meant I'm used to brainless fps games mostly, and some rts, not top down rpgs, but want to get into fallout 1/2
From what I remember companion in the first fallout actively try to murder you by shooting you in the back
it really doesn't require that much brain. also, who said fps were brainless? also, what the fuck is a brain? who am i?
questions, questions..
>Luck 10
>Energy Weapons or Small Guns skill tagged
>Get Alien Blaster or Red Ryder LE BB gun first encounter
Nah, this game's easy.
fallout is anything but hard to get into. its combat is extremely simple. you have no spells or no combat skills you just point and shoot and watch muties blow into gibs. the world however is pretty interactive. you can use your skills on quite a variety of things, you can use doctor skill on animals to fixe their lame leg for a quest or use repair skill on broken devices to fix them for some other quest. the top down entries are pretty straight froward and not hindered by overly complex mechanics.
they do that in fallout 2 as well, but they're usually worth having as long as you stay out of their way
fallout fixt might also have some options to change their behavior
only if you give ian an smg
Since there seems to be some confusion, all charisma does is for every two points you put in it you can have one companion. I like to have 4 points for two companions, but you do what you want. Also there are a couple times it helps you in getting laid in F2 I think. Other than that, int and speech give you the most dialogue options
WRONG, there is no companion limit in fallout 1. boosting charisma gives you a raw increase in speech and barter and opens some charisma based romance options I think
i'm just waiting for an old man to rape me.
Why does melee suck, bros?
unarmed is way better
but user, that's int. You can have a CHAR1 character and the only thing will be that you will start with shitty low speech skill.
Marcus has probably caused more reloads than that alien mine
also, it's not entirely stat based, you can lock yourself out of quests completely just by choosing the wrong dialogue option.
yeah, of course, it's the speech skill that really determines it. i'm getting mixed up between the special and the skills.
I’ll never understand how Steam can get away with this shit. How is it that a game as reputable and commercialized as Fallout can be sold on Steam in an unworkable state? It’s not just one game either, there are dozens if not hundreds of older games like this. Why on Earth is this allowed?
Is what i wrote true for F2 at least? I guess it's been too long since I played them
yes
I don't know how Bethesda can get away with stripping the GOG version from all goodies.
Old RPGs are basically point and click adventures. In Fallout 2 in particular you can get power armor simply by running basically naked to Navarro in like the first 10 minutes of the game. Sure, you can abuse their systems to annihilate everything in your path but that's not what they are about.
thankfully there are durgs. Just take buffout with mentats and you're suddenly a pornstar.
no, but the ui is made for a small 90's crt with 90's standards so it's annoying
>what are resolution patches
still there for my copy
Nah.
If you're a legitimate FPS brainlet, try playing a more modern turn based RPG beforehand, like Shadowrun: Dragonfall.
Yes but that doesn’t explain why melee sucks
What is it with Yea Forums and turn base? Those were a thing of the past
because melee launches enemies halfway across the map every time you hit them
>If you're a legitimate FPS brainlet, try playing a more modern turn based RPG beforehand, like Shadowrun: Dragonfall.
Yes, get him to play one of the shittiest, simplest RPGs instead of a classic - good idea, moron.
Dragonfall is a pretty good game, it just has boring RPG mechanics
That still doesn't fix the awful inventory screen
ha moron you dont even know what a resolution patch is.
suck it up
>Dragonfall is a pretty good game
I assume you mean writing wise - who cares about your SJW bullshit game
>it just has boring RPG mechanics
More than just boring
-No actual inventory system
-No world interaction (actual world interaction is replaced by glowing nodes)
-Flat, ugly graphics with stretched character models that all looked stretched
hard you tard
Oh boy it's that fucking autist
Whatever, dude. I had fun with it, although I haven't had much urge to replay any of the Shadowrun games.
But I did, still doesn't change the fact that the inventory management fucking sucks
I played F3 first and still beat and enjoyed F1 more than F3. I even bought a physical copy.
Bethesdas Fallout its mediocre at best and offensive at worst.
It's okay if you enjoyed it, but recommending it to someone new to the genre? Yikes. The game even lacks a text parser - it really feels like a game designed by people who have never played an RPG before.
You're talking to two different people, friend. I never recommended it, just said that I enjoyed it.
The worst are the dialogue window, why put that shit on the side when every other rpg have them in the middle
it sucks and it will always suck so you have to bear with it or remain a shitter forever
Looool - I remember making threads about how shit that was and Shadowslugs were calling me autistic.
Sorry Shadownigs, every single good and classic RPG has dialogue front and center, which proves again that the Shadowrun trilogy was made by people and for people who have never played RPGs
Then what's the point of this post?
inventory is only a part of the UI you dumbass
The HiRes patch doesn't change the UI in any way
blatant lies, all of the crpg fallouts work fine on steam, its fallout 3 thats a broken mess.
it makes it so it isn't taking a large portion of screenspace
>Fallout Fixt
TO ALL THOSE WANTING TO PLAY FALLOUT 1/2
10 AGILITY IS A MUST
10 is overkill, especially when you can boost stats throughout the game
don't listen to this deceiver
get 9 agility there's a way to raise it to 10 later
that's how ended my only one run
for first playthrough 10 agility is fine
Never raise any stat above 9. There's an opportunity to raise each by one, through implants, encounters, and dialogue.
And do you think this fixes the issue this user has?
Not that hard, just be sure to save often
For the best experience I advise playing Fallout 1 blind if you haven't already read the plot
user should grow a pair
