It's already a thing for a while.
And games have been getting worse, too.

People are stupid

Shut the fuck up retard

Nope. Never bought a game with micro-transactions, which means that after this gen I'm out because that's all we'll have until the entire market crashes again.

And once again, this shitty anti-consumer practice was started by none other than Valve.

Attached: image.jpg (240x240, 20K)

I see you refresh r/gaming too my friend
Good taste user

where's the joke?
this comic makes perfect sense

There is no choice in any of this
It's stacked
For every 1 person who doesn't fall for jewish trickery there's 6 retards lined up behind you with their wallets ready

Meanwhile on Artifact
>Pay for the game
>Pay for card packs
>Pay tax on the card market
>Pay for competitive mode tickets

>Get nothing for it.

And they were going to release it with Draft as a Paid-only Mode.
AND the leading designer has come out and stated that on betas, any balance information you get from players is meaningless if they haven't paid for the cards.

I've never seen a more devastating product of consumer stupidity and developer greed than this.

t. people

Actually it's the opposite
Out of 20 people you have 15 people not falling for it, 4 trying it out without spending much money and one being whaled to the extreme

I choose to pirate

Bethesda started it with it's horse armour faggot.

Horse armor would unironically be defended nowadays BECAUSE it is strictly cosmetic.

pull the lever halfway

that's impossible the number of people in existence is provably countably finite, nice try

This 3 panel comic perfecty describes the brainwashing of an entire generation inot being coorporation's little drones.
In the first panel the targeted "consumer" is a kid who doesn't have any money so he sticks to free to play games and occasionally spends his birthday money on microtransactions because why wouldn't he. He still doesn't have a reliable income in order to regularly buy full priced games and mommy and daddy don't give them a regular allowance.
In the 2nd panel, the kid is a bit older and got his 1st part time job that gives him some money. Now that the money for games is no longer an issue, he can afford full priced games on a regular basis (which also includes buying shit games, then bitching about it on Reddit as a "protest" even tho he will buy the next AAA shit game on day 1, it's a never ending cycle). Even tho there are no microtransactions in these games, the idea of them are normalized in his mind because he grew up with them.
Which leads us to the 3rd panel, the kid is now fully grown up. The idea of microntransactions are normalized because he spend his early childhood playing games that are filled with them. Full priced games (even if they are shit or just too short to justify the full price) are also normal since he was buying them during his teenage years once money no longer was a barrier. Now that he is a young adult, everything that he thought was fine and normal manifested itself into a single abomination - full priced games with microtransactions. The young adult now has a full time job, so wasting money on this cancer isn't a problem for him. He views paywalls as but simple barriers that he can now cross due to being employed. He lacks the ability to understand that he was groomed into being a coorporation sheep over the period of all these years. His prefered go to argument when confronted about his spending behavior is a simple "lol its my money".
They have normalized these business practices.

It isn't, it gives you horse more HP.

I firmly believe that if the game is free, devs are free to monetize it any way they want. If you notice you don't like their scheme, just go somewhere else.
Only devs that charge upfront really need to be held to a higher standard.

If you dont like it then dont buy into microtransactions lmao wow so difficult. some people like them and no one is forcing you to buy skins. Be adults for once.

i didnt choose shit you fucking nigger

>strictly cosmetic
>what is MK11s microtransactions

horse armor isn't a microtransaction, it's a 1-time purchase DLC. There weren't 100 different horse armors with different colors for $5 each. They weren't consumables that would break after your horse got hit 5 times, making you buy a new one. Your definition of "microtransaction" is so broad you that it's closer to describing expansion packs than it is actual microtransactions.

It's time to join the mobage master race.

Attached: wollet.png (307x384, 254K)

Why is paying once yellow, implying its worse then free games with microtransactions?

It's made by either a poor person or a kid who can't buy a game at full price (but still spends hundreds in their f2p microtransactions) or a industry shill that tries to paint microtransactions in a good light.

I'm way ahead of you pal, I donate to streamers and watch them play the games instead of me

Attached: 1534220193580.png (382x360, 342K)

Imagine unironically gambling for .jpgs you can get for free.

Nintendo games don't have them yet.
Unless you count mii costumes in smash bros I suppose.

If they think the game is worth it people would accept microtransactions + monthly payment + upfront price.
The pricing model isn't some moral playing field where there is a right and wrong side.
You're being offered a product and if you value it below it's price you don't buy it.
You're not cheated out of your money because someone else is willing to spend theirs.
That said games as a service are a scam because they eventually take away the product you paid for several times.

isn't that what card games have always been

Didn't choose shit, never paid for a single microtransaction and made a point to skip any and all games with bullshit like always online or that are super grindy to nudge you into buying a pack of crystals for 20 bucks

This. Keys were a mistake.

Blame the retards that have too much disposable income and think they live in a bubble.
>don't tell me what to do with MY money
Shove it up your ass.

>people are not stupid

Pretty sure if you can condition people to forget their sense for self-preservation and normalise destructive behaviour you can scam them and make them feel good about it.

the trolley would be forced to stop eventually in the all real numbers case

Free games+microtransaction are a cancer which sole business practice is to milk you through frustrating you with stuff that blocks your progression.
It is that way by design, because the ones that don't can't compete on the market.
I have no idea why the artist put it as better than a full priced game

Attached: 1556441319915.jpg (415x540, 42K)

Explain to a mathlet what this means. Is it saying that other infinites aren't exactly bigger but "faster"?

so people who died for their countries are stupid?

I don't think your progression gets blocked in league or dota if you don't buy skins

The bigger infinity contains more numbers than the smaller one.

>using different words to describe the same thing
>infinity larger than infinity

Attached: 1315625368311.png (445x431, 11K)

Imagine an infinite ocean. In it is infinite fishes. There is still more of the infinite ocean than there is infinite fishes. Both are infinite but one of the infinities is bigger than the other.

Most people who died for their countries in wars were tricked into miserably dying in a battlefield to fullfill the interests of some rich fuck sitting on a cozy chair in office

See WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, Iraq War to name a few

that's not true, on average the full f2p players compose about 30% of any freemium game

so they were stupid and smart people just hide and wait until the war is over

Top track only counts 1, 2, 3, etc.
Bottom track counts 1,1.000000000.....01,etc
Both are infinite, but one includes more numbers

>WW2
fucking idiot

There are an infinite number of real numbers between 0 and 1, such as 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc. There are similarly an infinite number of real numbers between 0 and 1'000'000. They both contain an infinite number of real numbers, but 1'000'000 is obviously greater than 1. Now replace 1 and 1'000'000 with 1∞ and 1'000'000∞ and everything I just said remains true.

>some people like heroine, so what? nobody is forcing YOU to buy it! be an adult for once and let others inject heroine, it doesnt affect you!

...

They're "fuller", more than bigger, meaning you could assign "all" numbers of the smaller infinity to the numbers of the bigger infinity and you'd have trouble catching up with the bigger infinity.
Just watch the bald science man's video about them

I mean, I don't personally care if others inject heroine

based scibros trolling the brainlets

You should. It affects the society around you, creates junkies which commit crime to get more heroine, making you less safe, and can affect your friends and family, people you care about.
In the same vein - video games you like are poisoned and destroyed.

But whales, the ones actually putting relevant amounts of money are just less than 5%, but enough to make it profitable for the company.

I don't think society cares about me and I don't care about society so that's not my problem

It would be impossible to arrange an uncountable infinity's worth of people on a train track in the first place.

Suffering's never been fixed with more suffering user

Indifference is pretty good at solving it though

it would if there were an uncountably infinite amount of train tracks

I don't buy games

This is how you know high end math is just people sniffing their own trying to sound smart. Real math ends when people start using letters instead of numbers.

real math ends when you start using 0s and minus numbers

nobody fucking used portal 2's store though. they had to shut that one down like a year after it was opened.

numbers aren't real to start with

>Nintendo games don't have them yet.
steel diver: sub wars
rusty's real deal baseball
badge arcade
pokemon lgpe ($50 mew)

Literally nothing wrong with this.

Not every drug (heroin) user turns into a junkie.
Not every junkie is violent. Violence between gangs and dealers take more lives than violent junkies who are desperate to get their fix.
A lot of junkie violence caused by desperation could potentially be prevented by allowing and encouraging junkies to get clinical and medical help for their condition without the fear of legal prosecution and jail time.

That's what everyone thought a little over a century ago until electronics came along and suddenly all that math nerd bullshit was relevant. Fourier transforms in 1822 had no practical application literally anywhere, but our modern world relies on it very heavily. And then computers came along and even more of it became relevant. Fucking around with prime numbers was a past-time for only the hugest goddamn nerds on the planet for literal millennia, and now you can't even access a website without it happening in the background every time you shitpost

>Video games used to be $50
>"We need to temporarily raise it to $60 until making games in HD becomes more standard and affordable!"
>Never lower price back to $50

I'm not the only one who remembers this, right?

These people:
clearly have no clue what they're talking about.
This is a little abstract to understand, but I'll explain it as best as I can.
Back in the late 1800s, Cantor had a horrific, almost paradoxical discovery that shook the foundations of math and literally drove him insane. This is that idea:
In order to compare the size of two sets, we need to refer to something called their "cardinality". For finite sets, this is simple, it's just the number of elements in the set. In general, two sets "have the same cardinality" or equivalently "are in bijection" if there is a way to pair up each element from one of them with exactly one element from the other, without repeats. So take for example {1, 2, 3, 4, ...} and {2, 4, 6, 8, ...}. The second set is contained within the first, but they still have the same cardinality since we can pair up 1-2, 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, and so on. In the language of math, we say that we have found a bijection between the sets, which maps x to 2*x.
You might think, well, if we can even biject a set with the set of only half of its elements, we can probably biject a whole lot. And that's true. It turns out all the integers (positive and negative) are in bijection with the positive ones. Turns out all PAIRS of integers are in bijection with the single ones. Since each rational number can be written as a pair of integers, the RATIONAL numbers are in bijection with the whole numbers.
And you can go even further - the set of finite strings of numbers, the set of polynomials with rational coefficients, and therefore the set of algebraic numbers (anything which is a root of a polynomial with roots of other polynomials as coefficients).
These are all in bijection with the whole numbers, and thus they all have the same cardinality. Even though some of them seem very very big, you can put them in order, and count them off: 1 is this, 2 is that, 3 is that, and so on. Cont

Real math ends when you attempt to find the square root of a negative number.

Attached: inflation.png (724x232, 8K)

That sounds waaaay to complex for me

middle situation should be top
then the colors also make sense

you just need to make up a system of symbols that have various reliable patterns and there you go, you can use it for coding

Attached: 1554176705052.png (573x644, 222K)

>I don't think society cares about me and I don't care about society so that's not my problem
It doesn't matter, society just means living with other people, you're literally living in a society right now, you're the society, regardles of your opinion those drug addict hobos, they'll influence your life on way or another, most likely in a negative way, just like microtransations
Now, if you were to say "i don't might being fuck in the ass by my jew masters" then that's a whole diferent subject

But there was a specific argument given by devs that $50 -> $60 was done not because of inflation but because they didn't have a grip on HD development yet and that this particular price raise would be temporary.

>stealing images from /r/gaming
this entire thread is worthless

desu even free game+microtransactions is already awful.
you will not be able to spend 60$ on a free game and get everything thats in it. it will always be a ripoff.
the problem isnt with full price game+microtransaction, the problem lies with microtransactions period.

you NEVER get your moneys worth with them.

Attached: 1549429933192.jpg (404x501, 59K)

>you're literally living in a society right now
Gamers rise up?

>have various reliable patterns
So abstraction. That's math. And what you're saying would only work for higher level programming that they teach retards who take video game courses in college. It's intentionally made (like you're describing) to be easily accessible at the surface level. But underneath that surface level is a lot of mathematical understanding that is inalienable to how electronics, and even electricity itself, function that cannot be curtailed by changing the tools you use to describe higher level logic of the programs themselves that use the electronics.

>your moneys worth

And what subjective metric can we use to measure how much worth somebody gets out of a product?
You fuckers don’t understand the free market at all

no real card games require one deck and you can just play forever.
kike printouts for nerds are terrible though.

Attached: 1525337399773.jpg (500x500, 148K)

>a specific argument given by devs
When? Where? Which devs? post a source this time

Attached: 4db.png (680x514, 72K)

it was cheaper than HS and other f2p games and now it is by a very big factor.plus you can get 80% of investment back, assuming you haven't bought cards month 1 and sold them after the big downfall.
it's just that most people care more about when they are asked to pay and having the option to grind for months, rather than how much getting a deck instantly actually costs.

>And what subjective metric can we use to measure how much worth somebody gets out of a product?
how about deez nuts you pedantic fag

>So abstraction
yeah
>That's math
not REAL math tho
"1 apple + 1 apple = 2 apples"
yeh that's math
"if you theoretically have minus infinite apples and find roots of the integrated apples then you get prime apple"
that ain't REAL math, that's just abstract mumbo jumbo

Just because you are too dumb to understand something doesn't mean it's not real.

but you do agree that hearthstone, mtg and such are on the same level as gacha games right?
you pay for the chance of getting the jpg you want, which has stats and abilities that you can use inside the game

I do agree with that. its essentially the same ripoff but even cheaper because now they dont even have to print and redistribute.

booster packs for cards have always been despicable.

naw mate ur the dumb, you fell for the oldest trick in the book, because it can be associated with something real you started believing that an abstract thing is real

Now for the juicy part, here's what Cantor saw.
Let's imagine that we have a bijection between the whole numbers and just the real numbers between 0 and 1.
Then, we can count them off. Remember, real numbers can have infinitely long decimal expansions with no pattern.
>1 - 0.7278383848...
>2 - 0.1233332328...
>3 - 0.8888838888...
>4 - 0.1200001000...
>5 - 0.9398283881...
...and so on.
Bijection means that EVERY number is on the list. So we shouldn't have to add any, we've already got all of them there.
But here's what Cantor noticed. There IS a number which isn't on the list!
Let's look at the first decimal digit of the first number: 7
Then the second of the second: 2
The third of the third: 8
The fourth of the fourth: 0
The fifth of the fifth: 2
And so on. Say for instance we get 7280234221...
And now we'll form a new real number. Every time we see a 2, we'll switch it to a 5. Otherwise, we'll switch it to a 2. Here's what happens:
> 7280234221...
0.2522522552...
This is a very strange number. It looks simple, but it's not on the list! Here's why. The first digit of this number is not the same as the first digit of the first number, because we changed it. The second digit is not the same as the second digit of the second number, because we changed that. Similarly, the nth digit is always going to be different from the nth digit of the nth number, because we always switch it to a 2 if it's not already a 2, and a 5 if it is.
Then this number is not the same as any number on the list, no matter how far down you go! It always differs in at least one spot.
Now you might wonder, why can't we just add this number on to the list? Well, if we did, then we could get another number the same way! In fact, you could imagine doing different things than 2s and 5s and get tons of numbers which need to be added, and then tons more after that, and so on. It will never end. You'll never actually get a bijection. Cont

>"Full price game + microtransactions"
>Take a full game
>Chop it in half
>Chop 1 half into tiny pieces
>Sell 1 half as a full game
>Sell the tiny pieces as microtransations
>Literally paying for half a game at full price
>Literally paying for 100 the game price for the for the sum of the tiny pieces
>Companies having the audacity to demand a "Thanks" for being so kind to its costumers
>Costumers actually eating that shit up dooming the rest

not trying to be a dick here I'd actually be interested in reading up on it it if it's real but can't seem to find anything about it from googling around

Very interesting, but you're missing one crucial detail.
720, the number between my buttocks

REAL math stopped when 0s get used, 0s ain't real

Abstract and real are not antonyms. Something can be abstract and real. You're confusing real with tangible.

0 is just -0

>alice has 1 apple
>bob takes 1 apple away from alice

>The theoretical way of looking at things; something that exists only in idealized form.
naw it ain't
but that ain't real, what doesn't exist cannot be
he don't have apples then, he doesn't have 0, you can't have something that doesn't exist

none = 0

I think devs shouldn't be making trash free to play games in the first place so that cuts out the breeding bed of microtransactions apologists for once and secondly a large amount of trash games stop existing so that's also a win.

It actually got worse.
>Pay full price for half a game
>every form of content has some monetization link
>"We're still working on the DLC that makes the game complete"
>studio stops working on content because it takes monetary investment
>whole year of content is cheaply made cosmetics and nothing else

aight but that's not math tho

Contradiction!
So now we know that the cardinality cardinality of the whole numbers is STRICTLY LESS than the cardinality of the real numbers. QED
That is the proof of "Cantor's diagonal argument". Go along the diagonal, flip things around, and you get something new. This argument is used for all kinds of horrifying results. For example, you can show that the Halting Problem is undecidable using it - there is no way to write a computer program which will tell you whether any given computer program will stop running.
It can be a little tough to get used to why the argument works, but it can also be displayed more rigorously than I can put it if you happen to be doubtful. I was the first time I read it. It really does work though!
Now, what does this mean? It means that the infinity of real numbers is larger than the infinity of whole numbers. The whole numbers are countable, and the reals are uncountable. You can make even bigger infinities than that: just take all functions from the real numbers to the real numbers and apply the diagonal argument to them. The same thing happens. So the set of functions sending real numbers to other real numbers is even higher cardinality than R.
On the other hand, you can show if you'd like that the set of pairs of real numbers (the cartesian plane) has the same cardinality as R.
Cardinality and uncountability are pretty interesting, so interesting that people don't actually know what the exact cardinality of the real numbers is! In fact, not just that, but we CAN'T know. Our axioms for math (ZFC) are powerless to figure out what the exact cardinality of R is. This is called the Continuum Hypothesis.

according to what definition

my bad, that's not REAL math tho

I'm thinking of a number; between four hundred and fifty and eight fifty. Do you know what it is? It happens to be seven hundred and twenty, which is my free credit score. This number is between my buttocks. This number, I am thinking, is between four hundred and fifty and eight fifty. The higher this number it is, the better chance I have at saving a lot of money. But the number is between my buttocks! Do you know what number it is? It happens to be between four fifty and eight fifty, and the number is between my buttocks. The number is seven hundred and twenty. But do you know what number I’m thinking of? I’m thinking of a number between my buttocks. It happens to be between four fifty and eight fifty, and it could save me a lot of money the higher it is. Fortunately that number is seven hundred and twenty, which is a number between four fifty and eight fifty. This number between four fifty and eight fifty happens to be between my buttocks. The higher the number is between my buttocks, the better chance I have at saving a lot of money. This number happens to be between my buttocks, which means I will save a lot of money. But do you know what number I’m thinking of? The number I’m thinking of is seven hundred and twenty, and it happens to be between my buttocks. It’s between four fifty and eight fifty. And it still happens to be between my buttocks. The higher this number is that’s between my buttocks, the better chance I have at saving a lot of money. Do you know what this number is? It’s my free credit score, and it happens to be seven hundred and twenty, and between my buttocks. The higher this number that is seven hundred and twenty is, that is between four fifty and eight fifty is, the better my chances at saving a lot of money. Between my buttocks. Won’t you reach in and grab it for me?

Sorry, what is real math to you? Real math revolves around sets of axioms. The existance of the null (and it's name being 0) is an axiom of the real numbers and has been for centuries.

sounds like someone needs a better credit score

I could, but that wouldn't be as fun

I liked artifact's price model honestly, the game itself was just not fun. The RNG basically meant you always had to make decks primarily of cards that were just generically "strong" because you couldn't reliably respond to a lot of things, and having the heroes be essentially the strongest boss monsters available was lame as fuck.

if 1+1 is real, then so is 1-1.

>that's the abstract math
All math is abstract. If Bob has an apple, he has an apple. There's no 1 anywhere in the apple. The 1 only exists in Bob's mind. It's not real.

Functional analysis, group theory, and number theory all exist in the world via quantum mechanics.
Group theory also exists in Rubiks cubes.

People are trannies so that's not surprising

Alright mate, heres's a question for ya

Right now I weigh 150 lbs. My mass is also 150 lbs.
No matter where I am, my mass will remain 150 lbs, but how much would I weigh if I was floating in outer space?

the middle class and their disposable income are why the video games industry fucking sucks right now and you're doing everyone a service by pirating games
no sarcasm

hold on mate I gotta watch mei sing anime songs now

Then you're a hopeless moron. You haven't seen basic linear algebra? You don't know how to diagonalize a matrix?
You do realize how important it is to so many fields of engineering that one can diagonalize a symmetric matrix with an orthonormal basis of eigenvectors and real eigenvalues, right? Lol what fucked up kind of engineering are you doing. Software "engineering" I bet.

Math user can you explain Godel's incompleteness theorem to me?

Oblivion had horse armor but he also had the shivering isles, hard to say bethesda are bad guys there.

well this thread explains why so many posts on this board are so fucking shit and retarded.

The market is never going to crash

What do you think those public and private keys are?

>to this day there exists NO algorithm that is able to generate prime numbers

int CreatePrime(int previousprime){
int x=previousprime+1;
while(!isPrime(x)){
x++;
}
return x;

boolean isPrime(int num){
int lim=num/2; //you could optimize it by giving it the square root of num but this works too
bool flag=FALSE;
for(int i=2; i

And now they're selling "paid mods" which amount to even less than horse armor in single player games. They're definitely not the good guys anymore.

Not to mention selling as a dlc separately the magic tomes, hideouts that probably should've been in the base game, orerry, etc. Oblivion was just a test with what they could get away with at the time.

>lootboxes are predatory!

Does anybody else just not have any sympathy for people who go bankrupt on whaling? How is it somebody else's fault that they spent too much on videogames?

If you're old enough to play M-rated games then you should be old enough to understand that your money has value.

Attached: gotcha faggot.jpg (318x275, 20K)

I'd like to believe that there's now a general sigma when it comes to non-cosmetic loot boxes.

Developers should have a good idea now that implementing that shit will just hurt their game's PR.

Because loot boxes being a large market will only cause them to get introduced in places they shouldn't be, like full price 60€ games. Turns out, this is exactly what happened.

so you're saying you prefer there to be lootboxes in games, and that the industry should focus on it

I've spent like $3 on lootboxes ever so I'm pretty ambivalent about them

not him but if it means I get free games/updates, I'm all for whales funding them

>What the fuck were they thinking?
They were thinking "our customers are gullible retards and will eat up anything we shit out," and they had zero reason to think otherwise.

I dont care about drug users killing themselves but I'd still prefer to not have them in my hood.
The issue is that those retards have a negative impact on their surroundings.

They make games worse. There is not one positive to lootboxes, it only makes the kikes richer. Lootboxes actively make game design worse.

I dont believe that you actually play videogames if you say shit like this. Legitimate core gameplay elements get locked behind lootboxes now.

>Legitimate core gameplay elements get locked behind lootboxes now.

>Legitimate core gameplay elements get locked behind lootboxes now.

All games that wouldve been way better off without it.

so you admit that you'd be enjoying more games if lootboxes did not ruin some.
lootboxes are objectively bad.

Over the last ten years I have spent $20k american on micro transactions and twitch girls ask me anything

tiny bits of DLC are also considered microtransactions.
there's also no defending it.

>so you admit that you'd be enjoying more games if lootboxes did not ruin some.
probably not, they're in garbage games anyway.
I don't have to personally enjoy everything on the market, if there's shit I'm free to ignore it

You would have the same fun by being a pirate and having a 2D waifu instead, and you would have extra 20k

>full price + microtransactions
This wouldn't be an issue if those games didn't cost so much money to make
Why don't developers try to reduce costs rather than increase income?

oh I see you're clueless about videogames. just a weekend visitor defending lootboxes.

Thats literally OPs point

But then my girls wouldn't get their donations and I wouldn't be a mod on like 4 streams/discords.

so you can't plan more content until after launch? k

It's not after launch if the content is immediately available for purchase when the game is released.

It just a game.

Except if they're physical they already hold more value Tha. Any jpg you'll get on a gacha and not to mention a good chunk of the things you mentioned not only ARE physical but there are tournaments held with large prize pools on it, and it has WAY more gameplay that your trash mobile will ever have. Gacha players are just sad not gonna lie.

nothing is anything

People ask money for it so we can criticize how that money is asked for.

>Also, you can't pirate online games retard
You literally can, the issue is that usually you can only play with other pirates.

Why is "Pay Once and Get the Whole Game" considered part of the slippery slope? That should be the top green option because it's the best.

SEETHING humaN*id

The only panel that should be green is the second one. Microtransactions have always been cancer. Get the fuck out of here you fucking retard.

>because it's the best
i'd rather pay $0 than $60, don't know if you care about playing dress-up more

it was offline for quite a while, they brought it back last year casue some people on the steam forums wanted it back for some reason.

Have fun criticizing it though. I'm done. Nothing will change for the better. Our time is over.
Everytime I saw lootboxes and gacha bring in billions, I got angry for stupidity of the players. After a while, I realized perhaps we are just from different time with different culture.

how can you say shit like this and then are unable to find me even 5 measly examples.

Paying 0$ would be ideal but the MTX distort the game dynamics, for example when resources necessary for play are gathered very slowly overtime unless you pay (in which case the speed is merely turned up). In a 60$ the asking price is nonzero but there is no reason to even consider adding these resources..

>lock away tons of contents

People defending cosmetic DLC are retards.
Cosmetics used to be free and part of tons of games.

And somehow a company like Nintendo can release an actual game with 30+ costumes that arent locked behind some microtransaction horseshit and it doesnt hurt their bottom line.

Bayonetta also got tons of free costumes that would be sold for real cash if it was made by kikes.

They're anonymous, why would they feel any shame? You have to be mentally ill to worry about your reputation in VRchat.

No this absolutely was popularized by Valve as it is today. In fact, it's literally why they never ended up making sequels to their hugely popular franchises.

Like don't get me wrong, there was a lot of DLC and a few attempts to get shit like this into the proper mainstream, but they never really succeeded outside of shit like FIFA/Madden which has always been sort of removed from the greater gaming zeitgeist, more for sports fans than people that play other games regularly.

TF2 was the biggest shit ever at the time of the Mannconomy update, it was a game that almost everyone had already paid money for, and somehow, someway, this time it blew the fuck up, people left and right gouging far more money than they ever spent on the game on keys, hats, tags, weapons, you name it- and from there, there was nowhere to go but down. Shit was fucking proven that not only can a popular game with extensive, intrusive microtransactions be allowed, but even welcomed, aggressively by the fanbase.

If you want to point to anything as the reason valve no longer makes standalone singleplayer games, look at Portal 2. It's a fantastic game, but Valve didn't really make anything like it afterwards. Why?

Portal 2's store didn't make anywhere NEAR as much money as TF2's store did. It became apparent that you needed a multiplayer component to make that kind of ridiculous long-term bank.

>a 60$ fee does not prevent other companies from selling cosmetics.
So? You said ''People defending cosmetic DLC are retards.''
Maybe specify that you meant full priced games instead.

>and every "free" game also comes with a cash shop that adds to hundreds of dollars if you actually wanted to get the whole thing.
So? Do you play dressup or the game itself?
Also your game doesn't get free updates for multiple years, does it?

No, because uncountable infinities are by definition uncountable. They are uncountable because they don't have a starting point, but clearly the bottom set of tracks of people IS countable, because you can start at the first person then keep going.

I play full games and cosmetics are part of it. My games also do get updates for years.
I bought Terraria in 2011 and the game is still getting support. I get that without having to pay extra like a fucktard.

Terraria has a good model, but very, very rare.

t. garlin

>I bought Terraria in 2011 and the game is still getting support.
That’s a good point, but how the fuck do they actually do it?

soul

Tales games used to have tons of unlockable costumes and sidequests of varying absurdity to go along with them. Now there's barely any costumes in-game as the majority are DLC. They "make up" for this with the various attachments that are available in game as though getting to put shitty looking kitty ears on a character makes up for the loss of all the additional content the games once had.

TF2 is especially depressing, as I watched people beg and scream for the ability to pay money to bypass the shitty drop system...

I really want to beleive it was astroturfing, but people are really that stupid...

Valve did not invent it, but they were the ones who were solely responsible for aggressively introducing, normalizing, and making lootboxes an ecceptable practice in the industry. They aren't the sole responsible for it, but they are a gigantic key factor behind why things are they way that they are today.

He plays both sides for maximizing profit, don't kid yourself about how much he cares. He's another soulless webcomic "Artist".

It's kinda hard to criticize Valve at this point because everything they did has been done worse by some other company by this point, but they still pioneered "games as a service" and helped normalize the practice.

>pay once and get the whole game is the middle of the slippery slope
what? was this made by a 5 year old or someone who literally never looked at games before 2019?

>keys are unironically fucking straight up gambling with the market allowing people to make money off of good drops, some people get involved in the trade literally for the sole purpose of making real life profit
>There's no way to earn specific hats over time with a points system or anything so you have to deal with gambling and the barely-regulated videogame free market if there's a specific outfit you want
>without use of a scrap banker getting new post-achievement-unlocked weapons is just pure RNG, having to use the community in order to reliably get WEAPONS which effect the game is fucking stupid

TF2's system is trash, trading doesn't make it better, it's actually part of the problem because selling-for-money is part of the draw and they use it as a crutch to overcome the shortcomings of the loot system in-game.

None of Valve's games is a "games as a service" though. You will always be able to play TF2 LAN

Just don't buy games as a service? I don't understand what the big deal is. I have never bought a game that has microtransactions in it and probably never will.

God I fucking hate that phrase, cause it's often used by try hards who don't understand the value of a game beyond being competitive in it, years of tackling pay2win has made them think that selling cosmetics is a fair compromise when really it shouldn't be, you used to get those cosmetics for playing the damn game too and as much as you selfishly insist they dont matter it does impact a lot of peoples enjoyment of a game.
I had to quit overwatch cause I realised I was only playing it for cosmetic skins and now I avoid games like that like the plague because they get in you deep when you're someone who doesn't play games just try hard but to have fun.
I just find it really selfish to say "it's fine if its cosmetic" just because you personally dont care for them, what if cosmetic non tryhard fags started saying "it's fine if it makes the game easier and doesn't stop me having fun"?
Obviously that's some fucking bizarro world example but it'd fucking suck.

The dude has done both sides of the fence, either to appease one side or the other... or, in the more likely scenario, he does a 'pro-left' side, which then gets 'pro-left' people to come and check on his comics to see if he posted another 'pro-left' comic and if he hasn't, he'll get the clicks anyway as they leave angry messages. Repeat for the 'pro-right' side. Don't kid yourself, the dude is there for money, not for some fucking actual change. Webcomics don't change the world, don't pretend they do.

>games as a service
it's not automatically a bad thing unless you explain
inb4 you post the eceleb

>There's no way to earn specific hats over time with a points system or anything so you have to deal with gambling and the barely-regulated videogame free market if there's a specific outfit you want
such is life when the GAME is fucking free. are you playing the game or dressup?

Games can have microtransactions and not be "games as a service", and viceversa.

What "games as a service" actually refers to are online-only games that can be made literally unplayable by a voluntary action of the developer at any moment because they shut down the servers.

>they were the ones who were solely responsible for aggressively introducing, normalizing, and making lootboxes an ecceptable practice in the industry.
You are wrong. It was EA Sports. It was always EA. Valve did do something shitty by following EA's lead but don't misattribute EA's sins to them.

Not true at all, lootboxes are widely condemned by the kind of gamers who play stuff like TF2 and such.
Games like fifa actually normalized it among normies and shit and are the reason it's such a wide spread practice now.
Games marketed at capital G gamers now advertise their lack of lootboxes.

Every company at that time was hiring human persuasion and ethics experts in the field of computing. You're not wrong but every company WAS working on trying to make their product as addictive as possible and capture as much human attention as possible.

I'm not absolving Valve of blame doing this shit. But it was a losing fight across the entire industry across the entire planet. Tristan Harris is trying to fight back but the sick reality is that even though we've been cognizant of the problem for the past five years nobody gives a fuck. The only way to hold these companies accountable is to pressure the government to do something about it; because the consumer sure as fuck can't be counted on to do the right thing especially when "the right thing" is holding their crack-dealer accountable.

You won't find anybody more pissed of at Valve than me but like all huge problems the solution rests with government. And without going into a tirade about government those assholes have other priorities and are easily swayed by tech sector money to ignore tech sector problems .

>such is life with the GAME is fucking free
not for me and a fuckload of other people lmao i paid 20 bucks for it

Also does that make it okay? I'd rather deal with something like OW where I'm guaranteed to get anything I want through regular-ass gameplay if I play long enough with none of the weapons being gated behind RNG at all over having to play for a good long while just to have all of my options available and then being probably guaranteed to not get everything I want even If I play for eons.

I'm right there with you that people put far too much value on cosmetics these days, that's literally why we're in this current situation but I'm just fucking tired of people that grew up on TF2 and consider it to be a gold standard praising its model when its model for microtransactions fucking SUCKS

>I'd rather deal with something like OW where I'm guaranteed to get anything I want through regular-ass gameplay if I play long enough
OW also costs 40 bucks. If you're willing to pay that much, why can't you use the 40 bucks on the cosmetics then

>It’s the “they’re still physical so they still hold some value” argument”
$5,000 for an unusual Flaming Team Captain would like a word with you

That's exactly what I meant, it's not so bad now because someone else did it worse, but Valve helped normalize it.

I'm paying that money for a full game with ongoing free updates that's giving me all of the gameplay content no questions asked. Shit, I probably would've paid 60$ for vanilla TF2 just for the game itself, but valve had a really good price for the orange box back even back then around release.

In TF2 I have to grind obnoxiously for weapons unless I directly trade with someone or utilize a community-operated banking site, both of which are really stupid models for unlocking weapons in a multiplayer shooter.

Here's another issue: I don't generally pay for microtransactions period, but I especially have a problem with paying more than I paid for the game itself. Why, do you ask?

Because this is exactly what a shitload of people did when TF2's cosmetic updates came out and it's exactly why Valve no longer makes singleplayer games. Newell has said this before and I'm sure it's true for other companies as well- money drives development. Fan outcry for one thing is nothing compared to other fans dumping hundreds of dollars into another thing. If you spend one cent more than the price of a game on microtransactions, you are effectively voting with your wallet and telling them "I do not care about the gameplay experience as much as I do a vehicle for showing off my hats. Please give me more things like this."

>I'm paying that money for a full game with ongoing free updates that's giving me all of the gameplay content no questions asked
Or you could not do that, see Dota.

Artificial scarcity combined with all trading being pegged around items buyable with real money
The price would crash real quick if even just 1% of active players got an infinite-use key.

Attached: 1554997238310.gif (100x100, 145K)

Almost as if PS2 and Xbox 360 use discs which are much cheaper to make than cartridges...

I remember during Wrath of the Lich King they added a store for ingame mounts and shit. So during WoTLK you had to pay for the game + pay the subscription + it had microtransactions.

Shit was insane.

Just don’t buy the microtransactions.
I play tons of free games and have never once bought anything in those games with real money that isn’t some type of expansion.

>portrays free game with microtransaction as the best
>not buy game once.

I don't know what DOTA's like because fuck actually playing dota, but we're talking about TF2.

I'd wager it's still easier to get individual cosmetics for free in OW, and IIRC, didn't you have to buy a pass for that one PVE update? I might be wrong.

The price for metal absolutely did. But that’s a non argument if people are still retarded enough to pay any amount of money for digital goods

Imagine if it was mandated that publishers who make game with MTX also had to make a version with them entirely disabled.
Merely giving parental control to disable actually using them doesn't work well enough these days.

nope

i dont buy western video games

Also
>just because it’s physical automatically means there’s no artificial scarcity tacked on where I just can’t see it

How is it valves fault that other devs/publishers took their ideas and made the far worse?

you're a fool if you think that valve's implementation of microtransactions was anything approaching innocuous.

It might be hard to understand for such a brainlet like you, but some people play games without being informed first-hand of the content or other minuscule details about every other game into existence.
In other words, some people are not autistic enough to being informed to every piece of videogame media.
So just answer the other user fucking question already.

They’re pretty innocuous now since their only games that use them are/ have gone f2p

Dota is entirely free except for the hats, csgo now as well. TF2 weapons could be argued but when it was a paid game you could earn all the new weapons for free.

How are you supposed to know which games are made by trannies?

One can also argue that all stock weapons in tf2 are the best so anything else is just a gimmick

you're on a dedicated videogame forum and you act oblivious to the most cancerous and wide spread monetizatiuon faggotry.
sounds like you need to go fuck yourself.

t. Modern video game publisher

If a game is enjoyable it shouldn’t matter. Keywords being “enjoyable” and “shouldn’t”

At least with physical goods, the finite supply is at least in part due to material constraints.
With digital consumables and currencies, it is effectively infinite, as they could easily just make it so that the consumables don't actually get consumed, or add a few extra zeroes at the end of the purchase amount in either case, both at basically no direct cost to the seller

Why do you even care about who develops some game?
If the game is fucking shit -which 99% of the games being developed by disfunctional people such as trannies results- you'll know according to your tastes, regardless of your knowledge of who created it.

>he acutally plays mobashit
That's even more pathetic dude

No you fail to understand that this being an open forum it belongs to whoever the hell want to discuss videogames.
user made a simple question which you still refuse to answer.

I mean, whats the point of a social VR game if its not being a cute girl and whoring.

I can also argue that companies will outright say the products they’re selling are in “limited quantity” yet also have warehouses full of them. At its heart it’s nothing more than marketing bullshit meant to get people to run to stores before the item “goes out of stock”

Imagine actual adult playing this shit lmao

Yes??

even for free games they allow you effectively gamble for money using the market (which is really fucked) and make it incredibly difficult to get anything you want without paying through the nose for it.

I would greatly rather
>pay once
>get content updates for free to avoid splitting the playerbase or providing an undue advantage
>have cosmetics you can directly pay for accessible from a grind, I don't really expect a game to be supported without anyone paying for anything for years, game companies don't really work like that

I was also right, and if you wanted to play their big PVE co-op campaign they added in one update, you had to pay ten bucks for the international pass- so they weren't solely charging for cosmetics.

I don't see the point if the parent isn't willing to shoulder the responsibility to make themselves aware of the difference between a babysitter and a babysitter that peddles legal crack to their child. For the most part there's enough neglectful parents out there willing to just hand their kid a credit card and at best insist they don't go over a certain number. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it's not the first step to take. It's a low priority is what I'm saying.

The priority and long-term solution is a government willing to pay scientists to study addiction. And then the next step is to acknowledge that for a long fucking time, video game companies have been peddling gambling or crack to children and it's fucking time we acknowledge that there are video game elements that ought to fall within the realm of gambling OR we expand the definition of gambling to encompass the disgusting practices in some video games, whichever one is the least destructive to society and has the least loopholes. And only fucking then will we be able to entertain specific solutions.

I'm not going to waste any time or money going after Valve or EA on specific issues or decisions. I want the law in place as a broken landmine that if they put their foot anywhere within its vicinity it blows off a leg. Right now we have no such trap; or we do but our politicians are paid off to ignore it; the situation differs between countries.

yeah I refuse to. glad you realized that.
I'm not interested in discussing anything with some faggot that doesnt care about videogames at all and doesnt have the core understanding required.

Sounds based stay mad esl poorfag

To be fair Valve aren't the good guys either anymore.

Who even is?

Attached: pZ8D8rF.jpg (326x326, 8K)

They are not. However the are one of the absolute lesser evils. None are as pure as GoG or Humble Bundle though

People know better whatever they want and if they are OK with full priced games+microtransactiont THEN IT'S THEIR RIGHT TO PAY FOR IT ALL.

I really don't see any problems here. If people were categorically against and, then they would simply not buy such things. And the developers would stop shoving their shit in the mouth of gamers. But since everyone is OK, who are we to judge?

Attached: 1453647883934.jpg (640x480, 107K)

You could play the pve mode in the arcade for free. You can also buy most cosmetics on the market for far less than buying lootboxes would cost you. You could have bought some of the ultra rare cosmetics for a few bucks. There are a few cosmetics(terrain, prestige immortals) that cannot be traded and are exclusive to the battlepass but none of those require you to open lootboxes. The exclusive sets in the collectors cache require you to buy lootboxes and are untradable except for the ultra rare ones. But even there they added a thing that lets you select which set you want after you bought a few of the boxes.

>I refuse to discuss the matter at hand in the proper thread
>but I'll go long ways to prove other anons that I know very much well the topic without providing any proof of such facts!
This is you right now.
You don't know fucking shit about the things you're saying and you still expect people to take you seriously.

What the fuck are you even mumbling about virgin

These. Mannxconomy was the beginning of the end. I remember telling retard VDFs that it was a bad thing that would hurt the industry yet be was laughed for it. It was when they finally started locking cosmetics behind a paywall (keys) that you could Only get by paying real money. Yet the community lapped it up because they were so desperate to get their "rare" hats that they didn't listen to me and just gobbled down the gaben cock.

>who cares it's only certain hats
>They have to make money somehow
>who cares it's just $1
>who cares it's cosmetic only

But then this all eventually culminated in Artifact anyways. I can only be somewhat glad and vindicated that Artifact failed full stop. I can only shudder imagining what would happen to the industry had it been a success.

based class cuck

it's ok if it's ironic

I only expected someone not retarded and clueless but I did not get that.
Big question is why you keep replying after I made it clear that I'm absolutely not interested in discussing videogames with some mega clueless normies like you.

even if artifact was somehow a success it wouldn't be worse than mk11 or EAs battlefront 2

the educated consumer is almost a myth.
threads like these at least inform some people who didnt even realize that its really fucking bad.

shit like microtransactions and lootboxes opened a different can of words though. at this point most could be against it, but a few whales are enough to ruin for everybody else.

I remember that there was a mobile game where the devs actually directly tracked their biggest whales and started building the game around them.

They are by far the least evil. And if anything is going to change unfortunately they are the best place to serve as a staging ground for the rest of the industry. They are also the most likely or capable of doing anything as it is a private company and in practice only accountable to itself. They are also best suited to implement policies that will damage their income and continue taking that hit until the public sentiment shifts entirely in their favor and their sacrifice is transformed into competitive advantage - other companies who took advantage of Valve's weakness for their ethics can follow suit and smarten up or see the entire industry turned on them.

There's no question we can imagine a better champion than Valve but they're the best we got. There's no equivalent to Valve among Twitter, Google, Facebook, Apple, or Microsoft. The Tech juggernauts aren't going to budge an ethical inch voluntarily. Valve can to its short-term detriment. Valve has the choice to not allow greed to be it's primary motivator. It has a choice nobody else has. You can say what you will about how they behave but nevertheless but they uniquely have freedom.

That being said there's no fucking point having hope Valve is going to do jack shit. But if you are going to have any hope at all, the only rational choice is in Valve.

There are none
The "good guys" in gaming are just there for the positive PR that exists.

CDPR is a fine example of this. TW3 gets some decently priced DLC for its content and suddenly they are GAMEBROS who LOVE GAMURZ. Then they ride that PR train to moneyville.

Actually you retard zoomers allowed this. Us boomers never tolerated it but your mommies and daddies let you use their credit cards just to shut you faggots up

>if everyone's OKAY with selling their organs, why shouldn't we let high school students cut their life expectancy in half to pay for the newest iphone?

The comic is saying the guy finally got his masculine game, but the world outside went completely to feminist hell, probably because people were too focused on games. I don't like Stonetoss at all, just saying how I interpreted it.

if companies do things that are perceived as good only because they think it makes them money its still a good thing.
game maker and game buyer should have a symbiotic relationship, not this one sided abusive parasite shit we see right now.

>he thinks boomers didn't do this to themselves
topkek

Yes, pretty much. You're a fucking retard who's only able to make even remotely intelligent decisions by outsourcing your decision-making process to the greater societal network. Throwing this out the window is to willingly reduce yourself to the level of a fucking animal.

>abusive parasite shit
Well that is how the market works. You were lied to when you were told the "customer is always right".
The customer is there to consume.
Sure you may not like my low-grade slop I serve for every meal. But if I replace all meals with it, you'll have to.

Well yeah, i don't see any problems with that.

tournaments that 99.999% of the playerbase won't take part in, the rest are just gambling away for jpgs

how about you take responsibility for being a virgin with a dogshit personality instead of blaming jews and blacks?

Or I could just play the game organically in a game like OW and eventually get the one or two cosmetics that actually look good against the style of the game from the few months of life i got out of the game before it started really getting stale.

You kidding? as far as I'm aware MK11 is just a painfully long grind for cosmetic fighter garbage, Battlefront 2 is a casual shooter that flubbed its implementation so utterly catastrophically that it lead to the industry as a whole becoming more wary about them and countries starting to look at changing their laws surrounding lootboxes, and eventually they made all heroes completely free.

Artifact was intended to be a long-running competitive game that you paid for that you would have to pay exorbitant amounts of money for card packs just to continue playing the game. It didn't even cause a major outrage like battlefront, it just kind of... Flew under the radar- but the idea of what would've happened if artifact had been another valve-tier success is terrifying.

you are part of "people"

youtube.com/watch?v=ib-fNi4pGrE&feature=youtu.be UNIONIZE!

>lootboxes are widely condemned by the kind of gamers who play stuff like TF2
>TF2, the pioneer of cosmetic dlc micro transactions and lootboxes

Then you're either a child or just agreeing with objectively terrible extremes because you don't actually have any defense for yourself but can't admit you might be wrong. Children literally do not have the brain development required for the reasoning skills to appreciate the risks vs. the rewards of these things. You would fuck over people who literally cannot be educated properly on the matter and give meaningful consent because "lol it's their choice" when it really isn't.
You've proven yourself to be retarded and that no one should listen to you, at least.

But i don't blame blacks and jews, lol.
That;s what my opponents do! Here for example > MUH JEWS FORCE US TO BUT MICROTANSACTIONS
> MUH THERE WERE NEVER BLACK CIVILIZATIONS IN AFRICA, ONLY TIBES
Fuck you dud, i'm the one who stands against racism and jew blaming for every shit in their life

fifa ultimate team pioneered lootboxes and makes EA far more money than valve could ever hope to make from tf2/dota hats

> Children literally do not have the brain development required for the reasoning skills
If you don't have a brain in your 18s, then it's your problem.
There are a lot of humans which in their 18 were extremely smart.

shut up kike

Even if they didn't do it first it doesn't absolve TF2 of anything, that game is nothing if not a microtransaction platform

You claimed tf2 was the lootbox pioneer. Don't move the goalposts.

>Killing off stupid people is sonehow bad
>Selling your organs for an Iphone is on par with selling ingame items for real money

I think it's time we gave up. This thread was a cross-post from Reddit, which means it was made probably for shit reasons or is driving up someone's engagement numbers. It's also the end of the month and a Sunday, which means that someone is probably in a rush to meet a quota and now is a prime engagement time.

I don't disagree with you but it's clear the people you're interacting with aren't acting in good faith.

theyre also against DRM. i dont think theres really anything negative to say about CDPR that doesnt include subjective taste in video games

Well except Gwent is total dogshit.
But who was surprised by that?

I did state that and it's been disputed, (you can be a pioneer without being the absolute first btw) but the underlying point was stating that TF2 players certainly weren't vocal against lootboxes

cool it with the anti-semitic remarks

How are these kids getting the money to blow on lootboxes? If it's a couple of bucks it's inconsequential if it's hundreds of bucks it's the parents fault.

>Tf2
>people hate lootboxes
yes that's why people idled to get scrap to trade for keys for lootboxes.
Yep, totally.

You can ignore the facts all you want, risk vs. reward reasoning skills are not fully developed until early to mid 20s. It's why the male 16-25 range has the highest motor vehicle accident rate. Being "smart" has nothing to do with it, and you obviously don't understand enough about the situation to take a stance other than "NUH-UH" and choose to ignore information presented because you still don't have any defense for yourself, so again, thanks for proving yourself to be a retard who should be ignored.

They weren't against he lootboxes because it was only hats. How can valve be considered the pioneer of lootboxes if they weren't the first or the most successful? Just because you our most of Yea Forums doesn't give a flying fuck about FIFA and other sports games it doesn't mean EA doesn't make billions off of retards buying their yearly rehashes.

> risk vs. reward reasoning skills are not fully developed until early to mid 20s.
> It's why the male 16-25 range has the highest motor vehicle accident rate
Jeez

>prepare to be bullied shinobi

>It was only hats it doesn't count! Cosmetics aren't lootboxes!
>How can valve be considered the pioneer of lootboxes if they weren't the first or the most successful?
Innovation in the way they implement it, this isn't hard. They spearheaded the effort to incorporate microtransaction into "core/hardcore" games.
It's clear you have nothing of worth to say, Pcbro

Why are you desperate to prove that valve started the whole lootbox shit? They spearheaded fuck all since they were neither the first, neither the most successful and neither the most aggressive with them. The only thing they spearheaded was being the least jewish(but still jewish) with them.

as said, customers didn't agree with this horseshit and it failed miserably

>YOU
no, you fucking retard. Remove whales from the industry and see how quickly microtransactions tank.

Holy shit you're so God damn dumb.

Video games have been 40-60 dollars for 30 years

Attached: tony.jpg (800x600, 42K)

Yeah, it's about time they got cheaper.

I wish I was a normie, man.

Which wouldn't be a problem if tge business model applied was the second panel from OP pic.
But it's actually always the third panel being used and people are ok with that.

But how do you actually and successfully tabk the interest in the industry of those individuals?

based. Also, Breen did nothing wrong

Oddyssey did not do that. Amiibos gave them out faster but you could still easily get them.

Zelda did it though and with that game you could ask the same question and direct it straight at nintendo.

Never forget man. I remember talking about fucking horse armor and it blew my mind as a concept that that was a thing. I hoped it didn’t get more prolific, and boy was I wrong.

It really is surreal to think about how widely accepted DLC practices became in the past 13 years. From Oblivion's horse armor fiasco to every single game on the market having DLC microtransactions. A single console generation is all it took.

I used to not care since you were generally getting something for your money, but the last 5 years have been REALLY bad. Like $4 for a swimsuit skin. This started in Japan/China/Korea where games themselves are cheaper and MTX are more expensive. Then it spilled over to the US, only without lowering the price of games to align with the SEA business model. It's a real problem at this point.

Sure thing bruh

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get E.T. 2: Microtransaction Boogaloo. To be perfectly honest, I was kind of expecting TES:6 to be the final straw after seeing how disappointing Skyrim was. But after Fallout 76 and all the other disasters Bethesdas been doing lately, people are going to be expecting a shoddy product.

No idea what's going to happen anymore but a crash IS coming, current market practices aren't sustainable, people are going to get fed up eventually no matter how well their "addiction team" makes things. There is a breaking point somewhere and corporations are too greedy to not exceed it.

The only acceptable choice. Only buy if you want to "support" the devs. For the most part pirate and enjoy the free entertainment. Also the Switch emulator is nearly 100% functional with all games so there's that.

heh

not really. Full priced games came along way before the internet, yet alone microtransactions.

>Still not functional with smash Bros
Fuck off.

anime is worse too

Smash bros is the worst and most overrated fighter there is. I'm sorry you have shit taste.

No

>The pricing model isn't some moral playing field where there is a right and wrong side.
You're looking at it from the wrong angle. It's not about value. It's about what the market as a whole adapts to and accepts. If the price of something increases astronomically (such as MTX has) and 80% of retarded normies are just 'durrrrok' then the 20% of people with financial sense are silenced and the market raises the "acceptable" price to that level because people are fucking retarded. So now the entire market is overpriced but everyone's gotten used to it. It's no longer about value. It's "just the way it is" and that's the problem.
