Theres a set number of hordes and destroying them counts towards a side quest/completion. They can get pretty big, I'd say up to a couple hundred. Visually it looks really impressive and it was probably a technical nightmare to get working on ps4 tech

Hordes wander around the map so theres no fortifying anything. But yes you can approach them how and when you want, and you do have sorta traps like remote bombs and bear traps

Set proximity mines, there's explosive barrels. You can usually spot the horde. Having a lot of health kits won't do much. Once they swarm you it's done.

Performance is a joke, gameplay loop is entirely unoriginal, combat is shit, and the script is pretty retarded. I noticed the gaps in those early segments as well. I didn't notice them anywhere else, but I'd be curious if they had things for other locations. It just seems to me they eliminated any choice that didn't have any consequence, or impacted Deacon's character negatively. You still can choose who to give the drugs to, and where to send camp members, but those clearly have game elements.

What was jarring was when you get to the first flashback, and it's structured in such a way that clearly indicates they wanted you to play that segment at one point, but removed all the gameplay and strung all the gapped cutscenes together.

Reminds me a lot of snowy areas in RDR2, and that's a good thing.

I'm curious if it's unfinished, or if they had those segments, and they just sucked, so they took them out. That particular area didn't look appealing to me, and the way it may have been hamstrung to keep the character in check could have been too limiting. But they shot all the material (and maybe couldn't reshoot), and it's all pretty relevent to the characters so they kept it.

The game otherwise feels filled out. It's just stuff like that and things like how the screen goes totally black between a cutscenes and gameplay even when the camera and characters are getting into gameplay position, that makes me think they had certain plans at one point, and had to change them due to internal limitations.

Bend Studios is like 50 people altogether, and I'm not sure how much, if any, assistance they got for outside sources or even other studios.
