Banjo and Kazooie could perform differnt moves at the same time. Banjo could perform moves that face forward and down, Kazooie could do moves that go up and to the back. For example, their Fair could be an overhead swing and their Uair could be an upwards lunge, and in a FFA, they could target multiple opponents at once.
Or they could have a collectathon gimmick where Eggs, Feathers, and Honeycombs could appear to give them access to more powerful moves. Like, you start off only being able to fire blue eggs, but you could pick up 5 grenade eggs to make your next 5 shots more powerul. You could collect 10 golden feathers for a mini-final smash.
Or they could just not have a gimmick, since gimmick characters are usually either micromanagey or the gimmick makes them unbalanced

When you think about it he's right, I mean not in a "Banjo is more culturally relevant rn" way but when you really, really think about it Notch doesn't even give a fuck about the game for how many years now? With Banjo you see all this interest in some kind of revival from Microsoft, Rare staff made the Yooka Laylee game that of course wasn't ambitious as the N64 games but it got the job done and a decent deal of popularity. Many people in the industry still appreciate what the N64 games were going for and I'm sure maybe in the future a concept for a game made by professionals could happen. You could argue up and down that that doesn't apply to a lot of the cast oh, but the reality is it does in some form or another in a way that it does not to banjo. Either way, fingers crossed that the conversations they did have with Microsoft will lead to banjo being a playable character. Cloud was one of the most hype reveals it's smash history. Banjo is one of the few characters who could potentially top that considering the majority of the fan base is boomers who remember banjo and have asked for him in this game for a very long time.
