I just like the pacing, it doesn't feel too short or too long normally, one of those games you can dedicate just one night to play it and still get a compelling experience. The battles could be harder, surprised they never released a hard mode patch, would fit perfectly in a game like this that is pretty much asking you to play it more than once.

Go back and play it. I replayed Earthbound recently and the writing is sharper than anything in Undertale/Deltarune. Hell I found some dialogue was lifted from Earthbound's script and used in Undertale and Deltarune.

Underrated. More than anything, the meta in undertale is lazy as fuck, it's literally throw in the game. Meta is to generate discussion, not a way to make a well written "thought out" plot.The writing in deltarune is a mess and too flawed.

Undertale is different than mother games in overall but you aren't wrong about how any mother game are way more polished and outstanding in comparison. I played UT first, then EB and mother 3. Played UT again to see how it was like EB that people couldnt shut up and not only it wasn't like it I also dropped the game for feeling boring and underwhelming, nearly as great.
