Microsoft completely destroyed themselves the moment they unveiled the Xbone X and the Wii U was a pretty big failure. All Sony had to do to win this gen was play it safe and release a new console with stronger hardware than last gen. Sony also completely stole the normalfag market who only play yearly AAA shit like FIFA and CoD which makes up a majority of the console market.

On another note when they say Playstation made more money in a year than the PS2 that's somewhat deceptive because of inflation and how much bigger the gaming market is now. Gaming didn't really become a mainstream normalfag hobby until last gen.

Because of PSplus. They said it made more money, which doesn't mean it sold more. They also sold the playstation console itself at a loss because the subscription would more than make up for it. So they got money from people constantly just giving them money.

Ps3 was a nightmare to program to because of its cell architecture and it's expensive 500 and 600 dollar price tag. Eventually with hardware revisions they lowered its costs down but the damage is done.

Come next gen Mark Cerny get to be PS4's head engineer and went with x86 architecture, a unified DDR5 8gb RAM, a custom AMD APU among others and a 400$ price tag. This specs partially happened because of developer feedback Sony initially surveyed.
Reception was good initially until the Xbox One presentation where Microsoft shot themselves on the foot with their kinect, always online DRM and 500$ price.

PS4 made a statement on another presentation that it will not impose always online DRM.

Wii U was irrelevant outside Japan and after that PS4 went on to dominate the current gen.

PS Plus, PS Now and digital sales bring more money in than you can imagine.

Is it that Ps3 sold more than 360. That might look wrong but these stats weren't from units sold during the generation the consoles were released in. It's total units sold period. Ps3 was still in production since well after the Ps4 launched and Microsoft loved to halt production of their earlier consoles immediately when a new console comes out.

Not true for a number of years. Sony Pictures have turned it around thanks to a combination of the Spider-Man deal they signed with Disney and shitcanning Amy Pascal. Their television sector has also been doing quite healthily for the past few years.

I live in Brazil and both X360 and PS3 are still being sold in major retail stores (along with PS4 and XBones), the difference is that after a certain point, at least over here, people stopped buying 360s due to lack of first party support, while Sony was releasing major hits late in the PS3’s life.

Also, it’s worth mentioning the 360 tried to remain relevant after Xbone’s release, they made a new 360 redesign (right side of pic related) that looked like the Xbone on purpose.

People simply stopped buying X360s after a while.

I really really want them to as well, then I could stop buying shit-tier sony hardware since they don't have any worthwhile exclusives, but the simple fact of it is that Nintendo knows that it can rely on the fact that people will buy their consoles for the games and they don't need to be competitive with sony or microsoft, because that just blows out their R&D costs further, forces them to compete for 3rd party games on their consoles and risk going up against sony and microsoft on a power level.
They did that with the Gamecube and 3rd parties preferred developing for the ps2 or xbox.
If Nintendo realises that they can sell the Switch like crazy, even with a good profit margin, why would they risk going up against sony or microsoft?
From a business perspective, the Switch is a surefire seller, whereas a big strong home console presents a fairly significant risk and they may have to make a loss on the consoles.

Also, if they were to make a new console now, they run the risk of alienating switch adopters and developers who don't know which to develop for. The switch can be a console people get as well as a ps4 or xbone instead of being a choice instead of those consoles.
I wish they would as well, but I just don't think it'll happen again.

The sequel's the first MCU movie after Avengers Endgame, so that will probably do quite well too.

Otherwise youll probably be happier on ps4
