Souless vs Soul
Left is how I felt it looked the first time I played it.
mario 64 is the most soulless mario ever made
Soul vs soul
>The reflection on metal mario depicts a desert and sky with clouds
I agree
*sips basedmilk*
Odessy is much more soulful
learn to spell
I know how to have sex. Doesn't mean I ever will
Back when i was a child playing mario 64 i got really confused when that weird loking bowser appeared looking nothing like he box art and manueals, i tought that by collecting more stars the game will get better graphics so i expected the last bowser fight to be like pic.
The fireplace finally burned down that tree house, it was bound to happen
>by collecting more stars the game will get better graphics
truly wonderful the mind of a child is
wtf is "basedmilk?" i said "basedmilk"
NINTENDO
>i tought that by collecting more stars the game will get better graphics so i expected the last bowser fight to be like pic.
Could be a good game concept desu
I agree that everything on the right looks inferior to the left, BUT if it were hypothetically equal, people would find a way to bitch anyway
stupid newfag
So with raytracing now available to the average consumer do you think it's now possible for a true metal Mario?
N64 could have been so much better if it used CDs so the textures weren't such absolute dogshit
>entering a painting takes 30 seconds every time
no thanks.
Yea, but Nintendo doesn't do cool stuff anymore
Maybe another user can remember the game, but there definitely is a game that does this. Was a shmup I think.
deepest lore
As a kid, I honestly thought the game looked like the left when I played it due to seeing so much of the promo art. I find that fascinating, how our brains as kids filled in the blanks left by the shitty graphics. I wish there were studies done on this, and why it doesn't happen with adults.
why was the art direction in 64 so shit?
Looks amazing to me
fpbp
Kind of makes you believe it was meant to be the Castle's dungeon or something since it's connected directly to the Waterfall Cavern.
But hey that's just a theory...
I mean it was basically acceptable for the time. It was the first big 3D game a lot of people played, they would be won over by that alone. People here always bring up Crash Bandicoot as a counterpoint, but Crash consists of running down narrow hallways or limited 2.5D sections, not expansive free roaming environments, and even just running it was technically detrimental to the PS hardware.
90s haters are stupid as hell.
Fuck I need to know now too
based retard
>Expectations
Even as a child, I had more common sense than you to believe that shit on the left was not real gameplay. OP is a fag.
onions
Right looks like a Unity fan remake, holy shit
Anyone contemplating how this honoured 90's classic now just connotes memories of conspiracy theories, memes, and quantum physics? Ocarina gets funky forest feel discussion along with people complaining about the egoraptor review, but I feel like if you show someone from the past the kind of modern discourse surrounding Mario 64 they would have no idea what's going on.
That one flash game with a screamer in the second game and a third game that is absolutely nothing like the other two? It probably has Upgrade in the name, shouldn't be too hard to find.
mario 64 really was a perfect game
nintendo did magic
I don't think anyone was expecting left. It actually looks like the Reboot cartoon
...
Sums up the classic wow faggots perfectly.
Evoland and Evoland 2, the latter being more impressive at that.
My point still stands.
If I teleported someone from the 90s and asked them about this mario 64 anime website discussion they would have absolutely no idea what's going on. Because I time warped them. I win.
In English, doc
Upgrade Complete is the name of the flash series. Dunno what screamer the third user I quoted is talking about, I don't remember that at all and I just replayed them like last year
Is Mario leaping over a green hill
That would be New Super Mario Bros followed by Super Mario World.
It's a upgrade in the second game called described as "increase your heartbeat" or something similar.
why don't you compare to the metal skin mario ingame
Thank you, user
The one on the left is raytaced and unironically worse, you can just compare Mario's the one on the left has awkward proportions that made him look off compared to official Mario artwork whereas the one on the right is very accurate, the one on the right is also much better detailed, and he lacks the off putting cold look on his face that early cg suffered from, I'd say the only things that the image on the left have over the right is that they are super sampled, they are ray traced, and there is a far higher contrast which was pretty typical from artwork from that era, other than that everything on the right is objectively superior, there's even a ghost hat, what more soul could you want?
>Advertisement vs 320x240 on a blurry CRT
I'd actually really love to play a modern game (by 2020 standards) that is intentionally shitty looking like the image on the left. Poor, old 3D lighting and rendering. Like Toy Story 1 or Reboot. There's something comfy about that aesthetic
This.
The metal Mario music was modern and kickass.
We can't render that in realtime yet
Did you know its a remix of the star theme in Mario 1?
Can someone please explain the "HIRE THIS MAN" meme is it sarcastic? I hope it is; because these horrible amateur replicated scenes from old games using unreal engine get so many accolades from retards who don't understand that they're just 90% stolen artifacts and super easy to make.
The first HIRE THIS MAN threads were completely serious and were about a fanmade OOT remake in Unreal, people starting parodying him so now it's sarcastic
>I think Super Mario Odyssey is shit.
>
>The whole EVRYTHING IS HAT is too forced.
>
>It's bad and it's a gimmick.
>Nintendo have gone too far, hats are wrong
>There should be a better word for that, like gimbad or badick.
>Yes, Super Mario Odyssey is badick!
>From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of hats Kcidab!
>The first HIRE THIS MAN threads were completely serious
No one took the OP seriously, but the OP making them was serious
I remembered Mario 64 looking exactly like the milk commercial. Then after a while I remembered it wasnt and was disappointed
COME ON MARIO JUMP
How did those retard kids even make it as far as Wet dry World?
I haven't played Odyssey yet but looks lie they dropped the ball pretty hard there.
Yoshi's house always seemed like it was a full canopy making a roof to me, not 3 little trees sitting in front of a fireplace. But I guess it could be intended to just be in front.
Reminder that Galaxy 2 is peak 3D Mario.
HIRE
Would be pretty cool to have a Mario game with a more realistic look.
