What's the gamebreaking equivalent in Fallout games to potions in Morrowind?

Is it the Repair skill? When you max it, and you get the perk where you can repair anything, you can basically use cheap junk to repair super expensive stuff to max and then sell it to Gun Runners at full price, eventually ending up with tens of thousands of caps.

The thing I like about Fallout 3 and 4 that's sorely missing in Fallout New Vegas, is that in Fallout 3 and 4 when you step out of the vault, you're pretty much like a fish out of water. Anything can kill you. But towards the end after leveling up and getting cool weapons, you're pretty much like a god of the wasteland, you just march across and can lay waste to anything, even deathclaws and yaoi guai, with absolute ease.

Even with JSawyer nerfing health and restricting max level to 35 I took Elijah's LAER to Deathclaw Promontory and turned them to ash 2-4 at a time

i didn't play the DLC's except the treasure hunt one in that town full of ghosts or whatever.

The closest thing I came to being godlike mode in NV was having the anti-material rifle with hundreds of ammunition being able to one-shot death claws from a distance.

The Nevada project mod took 7 years to finish but they finally did it. Moders also finished Skyrim Bruma. I wouldn't count them out so fast.

Is it me or is combat a complete afterthought in this game? It seems to be either you're completely decimating everything or you're getting destroyed easily by things like Deathclaws

I only replay it once every few years. I can't forget all of it, but usually having gaps like that for games I really enjoy makes it doable for me.

That said, I've never fully replayed it to the end more than twice, out of... I think the five times I've gone back to it. I've mostly just follow the main quests up to meeting House and then fuck around afterwards, trying to stick to whatever character concept I'm going with. I mostly just play New Vegas as a playground to roleplay in.

the whole point to sandbox games like this is to roleplay, so how hard or easy it is comes down to the arbitrary limitations you have set for yourself. if you just anti-material rifle everything then sure it's easy, if you decide that you wish to be a pacifist and not increase your "humans killed" number from 0 then things become interesting (I did this but my guy was still a hunter so he killed animals for food and whatnot, he just didn't like the idea of killing people by the literal fucking dozens because at that point you are probably the bad guy)

Also worth noting that roleplaying is the primary purpose of roleplaying games, so setting limitations and guidelines on how to make your character and and how they fight is a deliberate part of the genre.

I would also argue that, at least as far as narrative is concerned, New Vegas is the strongest Fallout game as far as roleplay goes, because the Courier's background is the vaguest out of all the other protagonists. You're a delivery guy and that's it; no establishment on if it's the only job you've had, where you come from exactly, who your parents are and whether they're alive or not, or even how old you are. Those are all things that are left up to the player, if they so choose. I think that's also what helps give New Vegas its replayability.

Pretty 'tistic. Building the backstory that influences their motivation, what faction they side with, what major choices they make, etc So pretty in depth. I once wrote up a fanfiction length background of the courier's father being a raider from New California who got a high bounty and was killed by NCR bounty hunters, the courier ends up in Colorado and sympathizes with the Legion's hatred for the NCR. I cringe thinking about this, but I had more fun writing it than playing it

What I wrote above was really vauge. Oh god, I wrote a whole thing where the couriers dad started raiding with the New Khan's, gained experiece, then broke off to start a new gang recruiting from Junkyard. They moved around and ended up near New Reno and hit an NCR trade caravan. Already having an NCR bounty, they decide to hit a bank in an NCR town, since it was the anniversary of Shady Sands being established as the capitol, the NCR soldiers would be drunk/celebrating
