Gaming is young as fuck and most of the best games are well known, I don't see why this is an issue. There aren't that many lowkey games which are super good because to make a game you need plenty of fucking resources and skills. It isn't like music where you just need the talent, film has been way more popular to make and digest too. There's just no comparison.

There's going to be a lot of overlap of taste because to access the classics, all you need is an emulator, or equivalent virtual console stuff (like using PSN to purchase digital versions of old PS2 and PS1 titles). If you tell someone they HAVE to check out the Count of Monte Cristo and how it's one of the best novels about revenge ever, they'll stop cold at its 900 page length and lack of instant gratification.
