That's about it. Or have a phat ps2 and install a hdd with freehdboot. Load games off the hdd instead. I have a ps3 controller hooked up via Bluetooth as well.

DVD drives going bad in original Xboxes is really common, 2 of the 3 brands they used were fucking trash.
It's just a regular PC DVD drive, there used to be old guides on compatibility available. If you have a compatible IDE drive it's an easy swap

Yep, you can swap them out, most of the time the 'rubber' band needs to be replaced which is super easy. Rarely it'll call for a laser pot adjustment.

Thompson DVD drives are complete shit and fail a lot. Samsung and Philips drives are pretty decent. You can determine which drive you have without opening the console by looking at the drive tray

I think basically all xboxes will have bad caps at some point. They were made during the capacitor plague. My 1.6 xbox was supposedly immune to the clock cap failing but it still had several other caps fail that I had to replace.

Xbox Youtube guy here, basically, if the Xbox works, you should be fine. They could be leaking at the moment but it doesn't mean it is a gon'er. I get more than $25. Although I put together a fully done up system that's tested, has an bigger HD, and comes preloaded with some games.

If it sounds like the drive is working okay but its just not reading games you may be able to get the drive to read games again by adjusting the laser very carefully. You should look up a tutorial for it, when you adjust a laser you have to be extremely careful because moving the laser potentiometer a tiny fraction of a turn can increase the power by quite a lot. You only have to turn it a very small amount and it may take some trial and error.

If the drive sounds like its not doing anything you can't hear it even trying to read the drive motor may be bad and you might be able to replace that with another CD or DVD drive motor that has similar specs.

Reading this thread reminds me I have to remove the capacitor.
And how both my Dreamcast's drives dont work anymore and I dont know how to fix them.

I have a Slim PS2 with a broken lens connected to my PC so I can load my games through OPL. But I ordered a mini router from China so I don't have to keep my PC on when I play, I'm waiting for it and I hope I don't get chinked.

I bought a month ago a used O2DS (only thing I could find in my hometown) and I hacked it with a 32gb SD card, right now I'm playing Devil Survivor.

I also have a modchipped PSX but I never got my own burned copies to run good, I think I need to get an old IDE CD burner.

Looking to get a PS3 and/or a Vita within the next two months and mod them too, apparently CFW PS3 can remote play more games on the Vita and I'm looking for comfy P5 playing (and PSX gameplay since I can't get burned copies to run on my PSX).

If the AV cables aren't connected the light around the eject button would be flashing green and yellow. If the light isn't flashing then the connector is at least sitting well enough in the port on the back of the xbox that its working on that side. Try wiggling the RCA jacks on the TV and see if anything shows up.

I have a hard modded xbox woth some 500gb hdd. I use it to play games i can load on it. I didn't mod it myself, but a family friend did it when we were younger. I remember not utilizing it well growing up. It wasn't till i turned 20 where i figured out more about what it was capable of. I still enjoy playing stuff on it like NGB and jet set radio future.

In this past generation, yes, that's been the case. It seems like people don't war over consoles as much anymore since they are pretty much just shit PC's that both have the same games. At this point it just comes down to brand recognition. That's probably why Microsoft fell behind this generation. They came out so sure of themselves with their "TV, TV, SPORTS, ALWAYS ONLINE, XBOX RECORD THAT!" bullshit that they fucked up the fundamentals of a game console hard. That and being slagged in the press that the original box had to run games at 900p with more frame dips as well.

At least sony doubled-down on cinematic games and had that bet pay off, how would you sell the average person on choosing an Xbox over a PS4 or Switch? It's got no standout features or worthwile games, unless you want even MORE mediocre halo games, and MORE mediocre gears games.
