is there a mahjong game with a full learning tutorial? I've alwas wanted to learn but it has too many rules and they throw them all at once to you.
Nope, every game I have seen has pretty much assumed that you already know the rules. I wish there was a better online version then Tenhou. I always get confused trying to make a room.
I would love to teach you though if you have the time.
gamedesign.jp
there's this but that's pretty much it
Kemono Mahjong kind of does
Really you should just watch a video series and play some AI
youtube.com
It's worth it though, mahjong is the best tabletop game
Mahjong Souls, which is the game in the OP, makes the room-making process super easy. The game outright spells out what tiles you're waiting on too, if you manage to get into tenpai. It also warns you if you're going full retard and about put yourself into furiten.
Feel free to call me a shill, but it's way more intuitive than Tenhou or some of the other online mahjong games that I've played.
Yakuza. Maybe not a full tutorial , but theres plenty of time to take it in
Is Mahjong mentally stimulating? or is it all RNG?
Also I think there's a 4man ffa version, and a 2v2 version right? I think I saw that in an anime but I didn't know what was going on.
The only question I have is. Do you have to sign up for shit and do they try to make you buy anything? Because the last online Mahjong I tried that wasn't Tenhou tried to infect me with Adware.
It's just a web port of a mobile game
It's got your typical in app purchase stuff but it has no ads and you don't have to download anything
>draw a title
>discard a title
>first to make 4 triples and 1 pair wins
ITS THAT SIMPLE. you can learn the hands as you play
It is pretty much a game about intimidation and trying to guess your opponents hand from their discards. You can either try to build your hand around theirs or just hope that your's comes together faster then theirs. Much like poker, it's one part luck, two parts bluff.
do they get naked when i win?
Are there any good Saki games?
You have to sign up with your email and the only reason to spend money is on cosmetics like custom riichi sticks and emotes you can spam during games.
The psp one
Thanks, I found it. Still good to teach if anyone wants to learn.
This, I learnt to play poker on yakuza.
Good way to make money too but they need bigger bet limits.
Besides Yakuza, are there any other non-japan only games with/about mahjong?
BANNED IN CHINA
NOT EPIC GAMES FRIENDLY
PLEASE CEASE DISCUSSION
It’s mentally stimulating to play in an efficient way, but it heavily relies on RNG.
I want to try to like Saki but there is too much superpowers, lewdness and yuri and not enough actual mahjong.
>Is Mahjong mentally stimulating?
Very
Obviously there's a high luck element with it being a game where you draw random tiles, but it's all about playing around what you get and what you see on the board to keep your odds of getting what you need as high as possible. Figuring out what people are trying to put together and being careful not to deal into their hands is a big part of it too, you only really lose big points when you directly deal into someone's hand.
It's much like poker and similar games where RNG has a pretty high impact over the course of one or two games, but across a larger number of games the better players will be consistently winning more
Keep in mind some of this applies mostly to the Japanese version of the game (riichi), it has a lot more rulings in place to promote counterplay and weaken the RNG impact than other regional versions of the game
you max bond with your waifu, right bros?
I still think these are the coolest things on the planet
The real high end ones also flip the dora and pre-deal hands
Get in here, niggers.
>tfw u want to play mahjong but u don't understand the rules and you're white
Saki started out pretty nice and then it just devolved. When the powers were more just a representation of that players skill and luck and not actual powers. I didn't mind the yuri that much.
how big is the Mahjong competitive scene in Japan? Do people watch it on TV and have their favorite teams/players and shit like that?
I'd love to, but I'm really out of practice to the point that the Easy AI on that site is wooping me and I mess up even simple hands. Timers just fuck me up I guess. Got to get use to thinking under pressure and farther ahead.
baller
I just got a black screen
>furiten
having learnt mahjong from hongkong style, that shit fucks me up a lot
I'd be down to play some practice with you if you want to really try learning it. This Mahjong Soul site also give you a pretty good tutorial.
fuck i think it might be friend only or some shit
i don't know how this works but try adding my ID 126918766 at if you kids wanna get this poppin
easy ai is harder than real players
Wasn't it gacha game without free rolls? It's also a browser game?
I added you.
Warning. I am a very experienced Japanese Mahjong player.
It's a mahjong game, what do you even need gacha for.
why did china ban it
aight good shit, hopefully we can get 2 more and get a game going
I dropped it after a few episodes as well. The bullshit element was believable in Akagi and Tetsuya because you know they're cheating, but Saki gets into YuGiOh territory.
just 1 more nignogs
That would be great. Join up faggots! It's free and there's no download!

>5 seconds thinking time
yeah I'm not ready for this
Nigurashi can you invite the other guys? Or should I let you make the room?
Also I need to take a shit for a couple minutes. Please don't start.
It's 5 seconds with a 20 second extra pool that resets every hand
If you make custom games you can set it to 60 seconds though, you can do that and put in 3 AI if you just want to muck around and figure out the game
ye i'm on it, the other dude just got back
also if any of you kids in the thread added me let me know here because the game doesn't give you a notification for it
DID SOMEONE SAY PON?
They are dogs breed for fighting, and they are mean sons of bitches.
youtube.com
It's basically like playing poker, but instead of bluffing you gotta focus on discarding the right tiles cause someone can steal it
post em
The latest one with the latest characters is on the Vita.
AIGHT WE GOT 3 SETTING UP THE GAME NOW
Invite me again, Nigurashi.
For me, it's Shenzen Solitaire

The fuck? Put better rules.
Goddammit now I have even more reasons to play this and I still don't have a way to play/emulate it.
Stop being a child
i'll unfuck things in the next game
>Yakuza
Expecting beginners to go full Akagi from the get-go and challenge the Yakuza
>tfw you fuck up some japs on tenhou
I mostly play on mobile and FFXIv I am a scrub but I still really like the game.
>ffxiv
I get the appeal of playing it in an mmo, I re subbed for it but then immediately dropped it because of how trash the ranked system was
japs legit cannot into pvp in mmos even with something like mahjong
Where do you buy an irl set? I want the standard sized ones and I'm not sure which ones might be good
I have actually seen sets at barnes and noble, only brick and mortar store I have ever seen them... there is a game store around here that has a shogi set but thats it. Just buy it online or something.
>I want the standard sized ones and I'm not sure which ones might be good
If by "standard" you mean Japanese standard size, you can either get the Yellow Mountain Imports one off amazon or import an Amos set off amazon.jp for about the same price.
amazon.co.jp
amazon.com
it gave me the option to call ron but when i tried to call ron it said no multiplier
whats a multipler
Invite me, Nigur.
done
i set the max points to 200,000 too
Your hand has to be worth something based on how it is formed
That means you had no yaku, you need at least one yaku to declare a win. Don't mind the term "multiplier," it's just engrish and no other game or app will call it that.
As a new player it's best to just keep your hand closed (don't call pon, chi, or kan unless it says "concealed kan") and then click the riichi button when it comes up. Riichi itself is a yaku, so it doesn't matter what your four sets and a pair are made up of.
Any time you take a call you should have a plan, you don't do it unless you're going for a specific yaku. The easy ones are all simples, dragon triplet, and seat/round wind triplet but even then those aren't really worth picking up unless you have a bunch of dora and/or are combining them with other yaku like a half flush or something.
NOT CHINA, HAHAHAHAHA
Fucking chinks
Yes. I mean, it's not like mainstream mainstream, it's still mainly a thing that old men like. But there are dedicated mahjong channels.
this is the japanese version of the game you retard
Oh Bother, Eeyore. we have to stop gambling. but first some huney.
That doesn't change the fact that China is banning mahjongg, retard. It's still funny.
You guys still playing? My id for mahjongsouls is 110694382
they're also banning Poker, famously american. I guess gotta keep the dog and cock fighting cartels happy and rich.
hivemind
psst the only difference between my image and yours is that I fixed a typo so you should replace yours
I'm working on a cleaner one with better translated names and also the japanese names included, I'll be posting it in /jp/ soon
I liked akagi but I'm too brainlet for this game.
Sorry I misread you, I thought you were just another "fuck china hurr tienanmen square massacre" poster
I had no idea China was banning the game, that's hilarious considering that's where it came from

2 more for room 25768.
Fuck, i was so close to my third victory. Still, i only played mahjong in yakuza before and only vaguely knew what to do, but i had a lot of fun, thanks for the games guys, i'm going to sleep.
Remember that time when one of Capcom's crossover games was a mahjong game?
Not by any formal means, no
Daigo was doing it for a while.
All I'll say is that for years now I've fired up a game in Tenhou whenever I'm feeling absolutely AWFUL and by the end of it I'm right as rain.
post your theme when you are in tenpai
Why is Mahjong so hard? isn't there a Mahjong for dummies? and no I don't want to play whatever the solitaire version is named.
>mahjong game by Azur Lane devs
So, where are the lewds? Strip mahjong or sexy skins?
american mahjong
what the heck is tempai
is that like riichi?
user the solitarie versions is normal mahjong this is mahjong richii
just open tanyao every hand
Become a fellow idiot like and just throw out tiles until luck decides you can have 1st place
Have I got just the thing for you!
Tenpai means you're waiting on one tile to win
Being in tenpai is when you can declare riichi, as long as your hand is closed
>Basedidiot
tenpai just mean the one tile away from winning
richii is just you declaring that you are in it
you can only called riichi when you have fully closed hand (never steal other people discard tiles)
by doing so you get one extra han which also mean your hand can be no sense BS but it can still count as winning hand
otherwise you will end up with no yaku where even if you have all the pair and trip you cant win
also when calling richi its mean you can no longer make any change to your hand and must discard any draw tile you get
in some case it is a bad idea but you dont have to worry about that yet
so the idea is that, say if you and your opponent are good enough to be able to read what the other guy need from winning just from looking at your discard piles
if you declared riichi and you draw their winning tile you are forced to deal it and end up losing
in the other hand if you havnt done so what you can do is keep that tile and make a change to your existing hand, sure it might delaying your win or even mess it up but at least the other wont win
GGs, I'm gonna go jerk off.
are yakuza games good for practice while checking guides online? ive got 0 and kiwami
They aren't banning mahjong, they're just cracking down on gambling. Even so games that hot a license before the crackdown aren't being banned. Majsoul isn't going anywhere.
check out saikyou no mahjong 3d

Get the Saki Mahjong games on the PSP emulator. The winning conditions are made obvious to see, more than most Mahjong games.
I never think of defense
It's not even that lewd at all. it's all just a tease.
Only a few girls are like that really. Most girls just use pretty time tested tactics. Only a few monster characters have actual powers
It's pretty lewd, have you seen some of the manga pages?
I dunno, once you get to the national arc, it's more like characters without powers are the exception not the norm.
Well yeah, it's manga. Anime just wasn't that level
>tfw struggling to memorize different yaku
i feel like a huge retard because the only one i can remember is no terminals
pls help
Thanks for reminding me about that nice antique mahjong set I bought years ago. I should learn to play.
noten riichi mahjong on the playstore free and has a tutorial and yaku list you can pull up at any time
Open a yaku list on your other monitor and just keep playing
make a cheat sheet with easier yakus. or you can just be a faggot, commit to no terminals and ruin the game for everyone else
it's actually a viable strat for beginners
>playing RNG heavy games competitively
I know this is bait but it's always funny as fuck to see shitters blame rng
What's the best mahjong game on Steam? Not interested in multiplayer.

POST ROOMS
There's a room going on right now that I'm planning on leaving as soon as this game is over. Maybe 7-8 more mins.
25768
I wonder if the older Chinese try to meme about banning the sparrow game just like they tried with sparrows once (and it went absolutely horribly wrong).
whelp that room is full
any shitter want to paly?
Im literally noob btw

Hey, don't look down on the monkeys!
holy crap you managed to put together at least two simultaneous games? Yea Forums strong
It's a fun game, yes.
Tonpuu please, hanchan is too slow.
Mahjong makes watching Akagi so much better.
i've seen akagi like 5 times and still have no idea how to play
Daigo was actually working IN a parlor in Japan, then quit when he found out playing a coworker he was really good at Street Fighter.
where are my tiles bros?
I'll tell you what helped me learn the Yakus.
Pick one of the Yakus you can make. Any easy one. I recommend Tanyao. Spend the next 10 games ONLY ever going after that hand. ONLY. As soon as you have it memorized, go on to the next hand, and ONLY go after that hand. Do that until you completed most of the hands, and then the rest come easily.
It doesn't matter if you win or not, by the way. As long as you're thinking REALLY HARD the whole game about what hand you're going after, you'll get it in your head.
Would recommend doing this on a single-player client with hyper speed set up.
There is no rage like drawing and discarding the same tile 3 times in a row.
Happened to me in a yakuza 0 mahjong match and I had to lie down.
That was an easy process- Did you just rope me into another psuedo gatcha game?
>yo-star
Oh. You definitely did, sly fox. Well whatever, it was easy enough to sign up. I'm liking this better than this one phone mahjong that went weird a long time ago and closed off and I haven't even played a match yet and the UI is kind of raw. And the starting slut is nice, would roll for if she wasn't given to you. Only shit that sucks is that you can't change your name without paying and waiting 30 days, fuck that.
Added. Now what?
Over my dead body.
>no 3p queue on majsoul
That stuff is annoying but ultimately fine. You just have to accept that you made the right decision for your hand based on what was more likely to happen. Only fictional characters can actually predict which tiles they'll draw.
The real raging shit is when you're in tenpai for a haneman, you discard the tile you just drew, and deal into some faggot's 1 han yakuhai-only hand.
>actually liking 3p
3PPD. Get out of here with your Yakuman fishing.
1. make 4 sets and a pair
2. do not anger the mahjong ghosts
3. cheat
there you go that's all you need to know to play mahjong
>not liking 3p
I wish there was more yuri, honestly.
HK rules or gtfo
Rooms?
somebody make a 3p room...
wait, so cheating is part of the game?
Come to think of it, I bet the legendary tile lover would appreciate mahjong.
If they're going to make a mahjong anime where the mahjong aspects are basically all just bullshit, they could at least adapt a manga that's actually funny.
>tfw riichi into furiten or impossible wait
I don't know how mahjong works.
no, it's just that the protagonist of the most popular mahjong anime/manga (at least on this website) cheats pretty frequently during the first part of the series
you can't actually cheat in online games
I feel this is relevant.
damn all i needed was a 2s and a East tile
oh well
>tf you realize your hand has 4 fingers with 3 joints and a thumb with 2
*ting ting ting*
*ahem*
The AI is dangerously moronic/psychotic on Yakuza's card games, don't learn the actual playstyle please, you'll get slaughtered. Rules are fair enough though bear in mind actual poker uses the ante properly I.E it increases over rounds/time, and serves its actual purpose of stopping assholes stalling for days on end.
Nothing is as bad as the Inventory poker game on steam. It is physically painful playing against those chucklefucks, even the theoretically cautious AI characters will go on a random bender.

Can someone redpill me on mahjong? How do I play it? It's kinda like poker, right?
Mahjong is like if Gin Rummy and Poker had a crack baby. There's a tutorial when you log in to the site that goes over the most basic of basics. Try reading through that and then just playing for fun.
This is some good lore right there.
Any open rooms?
Nice 4 kans, fags.
Yes, it's always has thousands of people online especially at Japanese primetime
it's not played like poker, but some of the terns are pretty similar. it's apparently pretty similar to gin rummy but i have no idea what the fuck that is so i don't actually know if that's true
you need to make a hand of 14 tiles, and you (usually) need to make 4 sets of 3 in either triplets or runs (like a set of 234, 456, etc.) of the same suit, and a pair. each turn you take a tile from the draw pile, and then discard a tile.
the first person to complete a hand by either stealing another player's discard or drawing their winning tile wins the game, and they get points from the other player/players(depending on if they stole or drew the winning tile). certain combinations of tiles are worth more points, and your hand needs to have at least one scoring combination to be able to win.
it's honestly not that hard to figure out the basic rules and some of the more common scoring hands, but it takes a lot of time to get good at the game and there's a fairly high randomness factor.
What's a good game to learn the rules? I noticed some yakuza games have it.

Castle mahjong is solitaire mahjong.

How the fuck do I score
What should I be throwing out
what's the point of dabbing on other people's discards?
How do I read my opponent's hand so i don't get fucked in the ass?
what the hell I got first place completely on accident
The in-game tutorial did not prepare me for this
Goal of the game is to get 4 sets of 3, either in a sequence like 1-2-3 of the same suit, or 3 of the same tile, and a pair.
There are 3 suits, each with 4 sets of 9 tiles, and honor tiles consisting of winds (4 sets of 4) and dragons (3 sets of 4)
Your hand also must meet certain criteria to be eligible to win, see:
You can build your hand by finishing a set of 3 from any other player's discard (pon), or a sequence from a discard from the player to your left (chi).
Your winning tile can be drawn or discarded from another player (ron); you cannot win off anything you've discarded previously, and if a discard would complete a sequence (say 3 from 3-4-5) then it would make the other potential for it invalid (4-5-6)
I really like the flushes
Oh, manga is more? Hehehehe...
If you want to play safe, the easiest way is to discard what they're discarding, or tiles close to what they're discarding. There's a rule that specifically bans winning off of a tile that you've already discarded.
>How the fuck do I score
By fulfilling "yaku", which you can think of like hands in poker. Stuff like having all of one suit, or only having sets of 3, stuff like that.
>What should I be throwing out
Generally you should be staying closed, as some of the afore-mention yakus (victory conditions) can only be scored when you DON'T take your opponent's discards (when you're "closed").
>what's the point of dabbing on other people's discards?
Some hands are easy to open with, like having 3 of any one kind of dragon. Open hands are generally quicker, as you don't have to rely exclusively on your own draws, but they are also worth less (see above). Similarly, getting a closed hand together is slower/more difficult, but worth much more. I recommend looking up a list of yaku online.
Don't try to guess what your opponent has based on their discards, you'll get it wrong constantly. Instead focus on what they are statistically less likely to be waiting on, based on the tiles you can see on the table.
Start with tiles they are in furiten for, then tiles where there's no chance they are waiting on them (e.g. if there are 3 red dragons on the table and 1 in your hand, the red dragon is 99.9% safe to discard. 100% safe if you can see all 4 of another honor tile). Then suji tiles (look up suji). Then kabe if applicable (look up kabe).
>How the fuck do I score
Win the hand
Once you win, you get more points based on the yaku you have, a few yaku sheets got posted earlier
>What should I be throwing out
Tiles that aren't close to other ones you have
>what's the point of dabbing on other people's discards?
To put together the harder yaku, you normally shouldn't take calls unless you have a plan though because riichi is the easiest yaku to get and you can only claim that if your hand is closed
Thanks anons, now that I know what the stuff being set to the side is it makes much more sense.
What do shiny pieces indicate?
ok if you dont know any hand at all try to go for riichi
which mean dont call other other people discard card
in this game you cant win at all unless you hand are worth at least one hand otherwise it will count as no yaku
but by having fully conceal hand itself is worth one han by itself so all you need are just collecting pairs trip straight
there are easy stuff like tanyou (all simple) where you must not have any 1/9 or any of the honor tile (none numbers)
next the easy yaku are Dragon tiles, these if you get three of them they are worth 1 han by themselves. so if you already have a pair of them and someone discard it you can almost just pon into them and still be able to close out a hand regardless
also lastly do you see those shiny tiles?
those are dora they worth one han each so try to have as many of them as you can in your hand
altho dora doesnt count if you cant win to begin with so you need to have yaku first before it can add up
So you can have a hand worth jack shit but full of dora tiles and you will still be able to get massive score form simple riichi
dora
In the game the shiny pieces are just to help you easily identify doras when you have them or they're discarded; each dora counts as one yaku for each one in your hand, however it is only a bonus and doesn't meet the criteria for winning with a hand, it just increases your points after you've already met that criteria.
In the top left of the game it has the dora indicator, the NEXT tile in the sequence is the one that is worth more, declaring Kan will flip over another tile; If someone wins with Riichi, all tiles that are showing will have the tile underneath them become ura dora, which are also worth points for each one in your hand.
>Not super power sports manga with some shoujo ai and mahjong undertones.
>each dora counts as one yaku for each one in your hand
No it doesn't, it just adds one han
You can't win with only dora because dora aren't a yaku
Is this game worth gachaing cute girls over?
of course not, dummy, just go play tenhou
NANI GA KAWATTA KA DARE WO AISHITA KA
wtf ive never seen that before
that, and everyone discarding the same wind on the first turn result in a draw
quadruple riichi is a good way to cuck people
Earning money in Yakuza 0 through mahjong worked pretty well.

Mullenkamp here, I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing but I'm sorta getting the hang of it. This is pretty fun and I appear to be winning somehow.
GG lads
host of this room, everyone left but i'll hang out, gonna take a quick shit tho
How to increase time, at least vs AI? I have analysis paralysis.
joinan
it's something that you just have to get over eventually, look for the tile that's of least value to your hand i.e. more than two away from any of its own suit, single wind/dragons, etc
say you have [4] [6]
if you draw a [3], for [3] [4] [6], you'd probably discard the [6] because, even if you drew a [5], you have [3][4][5] and the [6] would be unnecessary. Where [4][6] only accepts a [5], [3][4] accepts both [2] & [5]
why would you let your son dress like that
tanyao because I love ruining fags trying to go for big hands

Mahjong Soul lets you set the timer to 60 seconds in custom lobbies
You can also just play offline AI games

I have played mahjong before (vs AI) just used to take my time and play at my leisure. Already got used to this fast pace.
there needs to be chatting/stickers/sounds in the lobby desu
Played 2 games so far with a 1st and 3rd place finish. It's fun but a bit draining trying to outkeikaku 3 other people. And babby room is pretty hectic sine everyone just pons and chis like mad when I'm more used to intermediate play I guess.
sorry, that was a really big shit
Have not seen time in settings anywhere, do you know where it is?
Please join my game!
Would love to actually play against other people, i have finally been learning the rules the past weeks.

60-second turns for turbo-shitters like me mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
I prefer to keep a pattern like 346 in my hand unless I've already run out of other loose tiles to discard like single terminals or closed waits in other suits. 3456 can potentially form into a double pair wait, and if you happen to draw a 2 or 7 you can get a 3-sided wait.
that's why i said probably, in a vacuum with your other groups collected and assuming the discards have been friendly, that's a good point to consider though
I joined this game:

you deserve it, for having the gall to do that in the first place

WE NEED ONE MORE CMAN
Wow, we're all big girls here. Great taste, anons!
Double riichi, it's not super gay like tenhou but puts all the pressure on the other guys while you autodiscard.
Hey I'm back for more JONG
Whoops I broke it

I was the one that fed you. My wait was dumber, I was waiting for a 1 or 9 bamboo to finish my eye
sorry for leaving the lobby i was hosting, my computer freaked out and dropped my network until i restarted
any rooms open?
Looks like a decent wait to me.
>Pon on 3s means only one 123s run is possible

Go furiten yourself.
how the heck do you get this majsoul thing working in english
I spent probably three minutes trying to figure it out and promptly gave up when I realized I'm too shit at Mahjong anyway.
POSTLOBBY
they're only banning new mahjong games retard
>not sending people negative
what game is this anyway
only women play Mahjong. My mom plays with a group and they don't even allow men
The way I see it, it's basically poker BUT with at least 10x the amount of rules and possible combinations and possibilities to keep in mind. I don't even know how people play it IRL without a computer keeping track of all the different autistic rules without some of them accidentally broken all the time.
Take this, and on top of it you need to strategize just as much as in poker, and I would say it's not only mentally stimulating, it's mentally fucking exhausting.
>hiding your name
pussy
sending chinks to hell
who cares?
>not playing with the cat
>not rolling for nadeshiko
Someone explain Dora to a brainlet
You got 3 Han for it but the only Dora I see is a green dragon and you have none
Its like poker for people with IQ above 100.
thats the indicator
green -> red
red -> white
white -> green
I've played it plenty of times in person and gambled hundred of dollars away playing it. It's really not that hard to get the hang of especially if you go to a mahjong parlor that has automatic tables set up, or just do what I did and save up for a mahjong table to use with your friends.
>well i am not into nekomimi so i guess i will choose another girl
>well i am not into girls with big boobs, so i guess back to nekomimi
dora indicator indicates that the next tile in the sequence is the dora
oh right
thanks user I've been playing like a retard all night
The third joint of the thumb is near the wrist.
The dora is the tile sequentially after the tile shown by the indicator
9 wraps around to 1, and for winds it goes E,S,W,N and dragons go Red, White, Green
the objectively correct sequence is Green Red White
RWG is easier to remember for me since the red dragon is like the poster child of mahjong so it fits as first, and then the white is a neutral weird one so it fits in the middle
FUCKING 6PIN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Earn copper in Silver and higher rank, use it to buy gifts, convert gifts into dust, use dust to buy summon item. Only costs 750k copper per one that way :^)
1p is poster child
中 literally means middle
Is there a guide to gifting presents? Mahjong is easy enough but I'm lost when it comes to the whole dating sim part and I don't want to throw away my coins.
3/4
curse your 1 yaku round ending hand. I had 3 dora for the reversal attempt.
mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
waiting for one more!
>twf when "onii-chan 中 ni dashite!"
I knew that but actually never thought of that, that's good if you know kanji
RWG is just what I saw in the first yaku list I was looking at when I was learning so it stuck in my head the most
G>R>W>G is alphabetically easier to remember, for me at least.
Actually won, and I'm a rusty ass beginner. That was exhilarating when I hit that winning ron. Good stuff.
発 also means start
GRWG is also a sound dragon makes.
just remember that not dealing in is more important than winning a hand
>yfw RISING SUN
What kind of dragons have you hung out with?
What is this animu? I don't remember this happening in Non-Non Biyori.
how does double sequence work in this?
does it count as a yaku if your double sequence is hidden but parts of your hand aren't?
It's the tail end of Non Non Biyori Repeat.
That's not going to stop me from going for that kokushi musou you know
mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
Here user, let's do our own room.
help I'm stuck in a room filled with hags
I want an automatic table
>I would love to teach you though if you have the time.
Please teach me
With mahjong and geishas.
ok but I'm really bad.
This will be my first ever mahjong game with actual people.
It'll be fine, just play the hands that feel intuitive.
Double when won with closed hand, single when open.
there's no such thing as parts of your hand being open, the whole thing is open or it isn't
I remember playing rulesets that differentiated the yaku based on the things I said though
I wish the Android app came out sooner. I absolutely can't stop playing this game.
3/4 guys, come on.
>there's no such thing as parts of your hand being open, the whole thing is open or it isn't
It kind of does for the 3 concealed triplets and 4 concealed triplets yaku
The important thing to note is the difference between "closed" and "concealed," closed refers to your hand as a whole and concealed refers to specific sets in it. If you call pon/chi/kan then your hand is no longer closed but "concealed" refers to a set itself and whether you drew the whole thing or claimed a tile for it, including ron.
So, if you call ron for the last tile in a 4 concealed triplets you don't actually get the yakuman since you claimed a tile for it, but your hand itself is still closed so you'll get any other closed-only yaku your hand might have.
Ron breaks concealed sets, but doesn't break closed hands.
And I'm telling you that you remembered incorrectly. What part of your hand has and has not been called to make your hand has no bearing on any yaku. Your hand is either open, or it isn't.
Grandma get off Yea Forums before you find another game to completely kick my ass at.
Really popping off tonight.
>make statistically better play
>draw the unlikely out
I apologize, is correct
go away, runa
>graduated the newbie room
>silver room has an entry fee
OH NO
Thanks for the games friendos but I gotta go finish a deadline for now.
I'm glad I got a chance to redeem myself
thanks for the games user
>My mom plays with a group
""American"" """""mahjong""""" isn't real mahjong
That's probably not riichi mahjong though. My grandma used to invite other ladies over for mahjong but that's chink mahjong with the flower tiles and low levels of strategic play.
>When you get 3 Rinshans in a row as Saki
The games really capture the feel of the show sometimes although some characters powers suck.
thanks for playing, folks, off to bed, I hope to see more of these threads in the future
ok wtf is that
>When you get 3 Rinshans in a row as Saki
Does it fudge the odds based on each character's gimmick or something?
I don't want to say this because it'll make me sound like I'm from /pol/, but jews are behind it
This. Just look at Saki for example.
>tfw ron with 1 han so that I save face and dont end up last place
>nigga rons me for 1k
>ron him back for 8k
most likely because they suck and got obliterated by some guy that's actually competent at the game.
also host when
>My dealer turn
>Start with 4 pairs, including my wind and red dragons
>Instinct says go for 7
>Someone discards red. Consider changing course but decide to pass on Pon
>The next discard is East
>Pass on Pon again because stubborn
>Draw a tile that finishes another triplet
>Discard it because I'm already this deep after skipping three han worth of easy yaku
I should learn better than to trust my instincts by now.
FF14 recently added mahjong to its gold saucer.
have sex with them!
t.
why is my connection so shit
>Have to choose wait between two tiles
>The tile I choose not to wait for get discarded immediately
Feels bad man. At least I wasn't double ron'd
Any good recent strip/porn mahjong games. The ones i used to play all have that 80/90's aesthetic and i want some actually fappable ones.
Yeah, characters have special abilities including RNG manipulation under certain circumstances. Figuring out what they are is one of the funner parts of the game.
You forgot
>double riichi, rinshan kaihou
for another three han, elevating your hand to a sanbaiman.
>its one min room
>the guy to your right keep calling every turns
>then spend full min thinking every time right after
jesus fuck that took forever
>tfw got double ronned for 8k total
>12k tsumo the next round and finish the game in 1st place
The CS UMP is probably the worst gun I've ever shot in an FPS game, and I've shot a few.
tl;dr: some guy saw the game in China back in the early 1900s and changed the name to "mah-jongg" so he could trademark it and so it sounded more oriental (that's why even today we still call it mahjong instead of mah-que or whatever the fuck it was actually called), simplified the rules and winning hands, and started marketing it in America and it totally boomed with old Jewish ladies and loads of copycat games started getting produced (pic related)
Today that variant of the game is called "American mah-jongg" and it uses eight joker tiles and the winning hands change every year and you have to buy $8 copyrighted score cards each year
I wish I was joking
>donut steal
lmao, fucking murricans
That looks more like Rummy than Riichi Mahjong.
Do you have to have an account on mahjong soul to play? I hate making accounts.
Yeah it's really nothing at all like what we're playing here
Each hand starts with something called "the charleston" where you trade a bunch of tiles you don't want with players besides you
You can really tell it's from the 20s
You do but the sign up process takes literally all of 2 seconds
Just login with your google/fb/twitter account.
Bullying mbsoup!
The Vita one is decent. It has multiplayer too in the latest version so you can actually set up tables with anons and use those special powers. Or just play normally.
If you play with 3 Saki's the game will probably never end since they keep restarting the round via 4 Kans.
Any free rooms?
but did you get your yakuman?
>8 dora
What the hell.
This must be that rumored P5S game.
mahjong club. has superpowers (you can turn off) for a little spice.
I refuse to believe there are no chinabro lurking here right now
show yourselfs
google is banned in china
not a china bro but I'm more used to hongkong/singapore style mahjong
>when the free sex button pops up
For everyone here who's having a good time, friendly reminder that /jp/ has an ongoing mahjong thread and it's a little slow sometimes so you should come join us
It's great to see riichi getting this much attention
>iishanten all game
I HATE IT
1989 Tiananmen Square protests
>the winning hands change every year and you have to buy $8 copyrighted score cards each year
That's hilarious and impressively jewish.
since theres no chinabro here I'll contribute some fine mahjsoul memes
>1-shanten waiting for 6 tiles
>Everyone else discards them
Would've been a nice hand even.
Rooms are generally open tanyao so just be a massive faggot and ruin people's megahands.
but I didn't get an open tanyao starting hand
Animahjong X Perfect has trained me well.
That was fun but I should recline for now.
Old Chinese grannies are literally the final boss of mahjong
Just for you.
RON! TANYAO! 1000pt!
Here here, it's about time we got some mahjong action.
It's pretty much the only game I play.
Nah, your beginner's luck will stick with you for quite a while, until you make your first yakuman/sanbaiman. For now, just enjoy the game until you reach the pit of despair.
tanyaos may only be worth a 1000pts but watching you faggots seethe about them is priceless
me
I learned mahjong specially to play all the mahjong games that came with mame romset I downloaded, but ai is a bitch in them. I also played on tenhou for a while but stopped
got any recommended ones on mame?
>Guy loses a measely 2000 points
>Ragequit
It's the worst kind of shit to play against two people and an automatic tile dispenser.
i dont have any of those
If you could change the rules of riichi mahjong what would you change, if anything?
I'd get rid of fu and just make hand values go 1000, 2000, 4000 and then 4-5 han is mangan. Big point differences caused by fu values don't come up often enough to make it worth the stupid amount of extra complexity in scoring.
Make tanyaos illegal by default.
That's just dumb, the comebacks are part of the thrill.
I would be happy with this
Fu just makes playing irl a massive pain and has relatively low impact
The point differences are there for high-level play.
Gaijin punks like us will probably never get the point of certain things.
tfw dame tanyao pinfu while the fucker who is east almost has an open dai san gen.
Have you ever gotten a Nagashi Mangan?
Most tables make that hand illegal, cause it's easy to discard terminals all day.
The what now!?
I can understand not wanting open tanyaos but normal closed tanyaos are fine and a perfectly valid way to add value to a hand. At least it involves some kind of strategy, which I'll happily accept in a game where a shitty cheapo 1-han hand can morph into a fucking haneman just by pure luck.
In Tenhou? Yes.
nooo
my doras
tanyao allows for less tiles than chanta though. My mangos told me that.
I never understood fu. Its never worth it to get a shittier wait just for some tiny point bonus.
Is it really easy? You become super predictable and it breaks if someone makes a single call.
Having played for years, I've only ever seen it pulled off once. It's not as easy as you think. Plus, none of your discarded tiles can be called upon AND the game (obviously) must end in a draw. Good luck with those layers of RNG aligning perfectly.
really, unless you start with hand of terminals (and want to go thirteen orphans) you usually only have a few. and if you discard though first eventually you run out of terminals. Youll have to draw 15 terminals or honors to keep it up, which is pretty rare. and even if you have a game where you can do that someone might get a win and prevent it from firing.
the one button everyone hits
Fewer total tiles, but far better waits.
No it's not easy. You could spend all day doing nothing but going for Nagashi Mangan and probably never get it. There's no reason to make it illegal.
Why does it even exist then?
you question akagi-sama's wisdom?
of course I did
Do you have to create an account to play on that website? I'll tried with one of the links and it asked for my email.
Mahjong is all about searching for stupidly improbable outcomes.
that's a pretty insensitive name for a japanese game
Same reasons as the Yakumans. Simply the rules covering all the bases for these special scenarios in case someone gets them.
Thanks for showing this to me, OP.
I taught myself Mahjong a few years back to get 100% in the Yakuza games.
Orignal is more aking to something like "Peerless One"
A lot of stuff is just "wouldn't that be cool to have". Like 7 pairs isn't a normal hand, but it'd be off to not have it. 13 orphans is also a hand of tiles that no one really wants. Flushs, itsu and pon/kan hands are the same, just like in poker.
The real yaku which feels like it barely even needs to exist is chankan. Only worth 1 han but I've never seen it happen.
It's happening right now
Send help
It's there in case you find someone trying to channel the Saki and make them cry.
because powerlevels. Same reason poker has the royal flush even though its just a straight flush but of the highest level.
Most yaku are just not worth the effort to get as they are far too difficult to get, you are better off playing faster for less points. But they have them there jsut for big dick points
Damn you soup, I was supposed to win and then you just comeback striking at each of us! I mean good games. Have to go, have fun anons.
>tfw trying for yakuman but choked
Cant belive the guy waited for a one off wind tile, i was in such a good tempai

If your speed stat is below 50 then you're SHIT at mahjong

This is what I play when I declare Riichi.
I'm in a train and my internet shat itself, I guess the game already started
Is that The Koromo I see in the character draws?
So is this thing also on mobile or just browser version?
Oh no. How did it go from this,
What if my luk is over 90
are there any youtube channels based around teaching mahjong to complete shitters? wish i didnt wait this long to start playing because i can barely even remember 3 winning hands
this game is bringing out my inner poker fiend that i locked away a solid three years ago and i want to get good
To this? Well done, soup. Now see ya, for real.
can someone make a new thread? I can't search for a decent OP pic cause im ingame
