So I've noticed in a number of the XIV threads many people seem to denounce people who skip or push thru the story as fast as they can to reach endgame and complaining about the lack of things to do. My question to all of you is, what besides the story is there to do? And how long does it generally last before becoming "obsolete" or easy to address in a timely with each concurrent update? Don't get me wrong a great story in a video game can do wonders to supplement the gameplay itself but what about XIV is great in regards to gameplay or the very systems itself?

Main story and side-quests both help to weave in additional information into the tapestry of the worldbuilding that can be pretty great at times, all the way down to what people ate and drank before and after the Calamity. A lot of people take this for granted, but it really helps the immersion and believability of the world when you can see it with your own eyes, instead of just hearing about "farms somewhere are having shortages so things are bad".

I guess Eureka might fall into that category, but the majority of the playerbase despises it. Admittedly it's a poor attempt at trying to fit old school MMO design into a game that doesn't really work with it, but it is a different kind of progression with rare, unique rewards. Yes I've seen Eureka in of itself, very much a heavily debated topic in the community from what I've seen but like you said it seems they ported over the XI grind without taking into account the style of game that XIV is. No, they do. Doman refugees communicate perfectly well when they come to Eorzea, and Lyse and the twins also communicate perfectly well to Othardians. It's well established that Ancient Hingan is not the dominant language in Hingashi anymore, and traders from other countries regularly go to the Steppe and communicate without issue. The lore book also talks about how Hyuran Common has become the dominant language across the world thanks to trade.

I've never excluded side content user. I've purely excluded the generic +1 grind and "Just for the Story" content. This game does have side content that is interesting does it not? Hell from what Ive seen you even have Hunts that to an extent help you gain increased speed in zones which is essentially some progression. What about syndicates/guilds that you can do dailies for? Do they provide something to make your life easier or even benefit your daily play in some manner? Or is it all just cosmetic and story based?

Fair enough, though once again at least with other games this isn't exactly a thing exclusive to MMOs anymore. I bring up private servers not in regard to MMO private servers but just games as a whole that have allowed the creation of any community server, sort of like TF2 before the Matchmaking update. Social Aspects that MMOs used to have are no longer unique to MMOs themselves is what i saying and isn't exactly, at least in my own opinion of course, a net positive for MMOs but its not exactly a negative either. At this point a game by default is expected to have some kind of Social Aspect so I won't say XIV is special for having something that has become a norm.

For SAM specifically a mistake a lot of newbies make is thinking Midare is your burst, it's actually Shinten spam. Your dash is extremely useful for keepaway and you should save some meter for it unless you're bursting.

Yes, this is literally what happens. A writer injects a bit of ambiguity or sympathy into a story update, Yoshida sees it and demands they make them kill a kitten in the next patch. You can all but confirm this if you follow interviews and such closely.

It's all about optimization. You bring THE single highest dps of any playable class in the game. But your attacks require to stand in place to execute. Your circle of power ability grants you a big cast time buff but can't be picked up once used. Essentially, you're the weakest when learning the fight but absolutely the strongest once the fight is learned. You have some mobility options, like having your next three casts go off without cast times, but a lot of the time you need to stand somewhat still.

Just rewatched it. That's pretty neat if it is Zodiark taking over singing. I wonder if we will hear his voice in the game.

You need to learn the boss' rotation to play every class optimally. You are not special.

What do you mean by "Topple"? Every dungeon and basic raid doesn't discern between players, but the EX and up content needs party finder to enter into with any kind of sane timeframe. Many party finder parties outright exclude SAM and BLK because most SAM and BLK aren't able to make up for the damage loss caused by their inability to help the rest of the raid do damage.

Oh, I also forgot to mention, Sam focuses on a bunch of small hits and finishing with one big damage strike for their rotation. Meanwhile Black mage swaps from 20% low damage down time (charging mana), then the other 80% is just fuckhuge damage (spend all your mana blowing shit up, visibly chunking hp bars). The class feels really good once you unlock fire IV at level 60. It becomes fully complete at 70.
