are they right?
343 industries thinks this is good spaceship design
everyone loses their tits over the HW2 guy being the art lead for infinite but that just tells me the forerunner designs are going to look as awful as 4 and 5. also no, that's a big angular turd.
Post a spaceship design. Any design. No matter what it is, people will say it's stupid.
The OP literally looks like a metal Metapod, user
I don't know what that is, but every spaceship is stupid
That’s not even a spaceship though, looks like one of the turrets or architecture from 5.
Your elite.
Overlayed on an actual model.
>that tongue
it looks really dumb with no lower jaw
>wings
>on a spaceship
This is the most retarded shit I've seen all week
It's neither good or bad; aerodynamics don't matter much in space when you have shields, nor for entering/exiting orbits if you're using non-conventional engines, which they do in the lore. Having a larger surface area for launching attacks would probably be preferable.
What's this guy say. Fuck design and put weapon everywhere.
depends on how well it rotates/what sort of weapons it is using. Realistically every "spaceship" design argument comes down to the game/movie/books' space physics rules, since realistically by our own rules you'd just snipe people from hundreds of miles away with a laser and then your ship would be flung back from the force of the shot. Looks nice though by our clunky, bulky pro-human aesthetics.
but Yea Forums told me that apollo was faked
The 'engine' is fucking halfway inside the goddamned thing. The instant they turn it on that stupid module at the bottom is getting fried, assuming the whole damned thing doesn't just explode
ayy
user the covering came off, you know that right?
that looks more like a piece leg plating from some sci fi heavy armor than a space ship
What about this kino design? No space for filthy organics though, so you ain't coming aboard.
>stupidly shaped engine bell
>five skinny-ass landing legs that will break at anything higher than a tenth of a G
>four fucking antennae
>landing gear
fucking ridiculous there are no landing strips on the moon
it looks like poop with a lot of fiber in it
Did it really need to be this big?
I want some proof of it being this ridiculously large.
>A beach ball with four antennae
Wow, really fucking groundbreaking. How is that even a spaceship, dicknose? There's no engine.
looks like the collectors ship from mass effect
>magical antigravity bullshit and energy shields
>not absolutely retarded
Pick fucking one
>NOOOOO THINK OF MUH REEEEALISM
Looks in line with the forerunner aesthetic so I ain't complaining
It was flagship of entire navy. So yeah kinda have to show who is boss here
>Not surfing the aether
How would you even crew a ship of that size?
with lots of robots
Or one powerful AI
In space it doesn't matter how a ship is shaped so yea anything works.
but it looks dumb
the earth is 13,000 km in diameter and the mantle's approach is just 300 km long, this scale is fucked
>No xeelee's ring
I know they won't but they should bring the didact back in infinite somehow. he was so underutilized in 4
type 3
He was killed off screen between 4 and 5
Has terrible as it looks, the name Mantle's Approach is pretty good. Beats the ever loving shit out of the other ships 343 is responsible for naming.
it doesn't move by itself, they just reproduce inside the cell until it literally becomes a frag grenade
He's not dead. He was composed
Artist here
Should I add more green to the texture?
Isn't that basically the same as being dead? You can't un-compose someone
Mantles Approach versus a Culture GSV, call it
>no guns
into the trash
>343 guilty spark
>This installation was built to study and contain the Flood. Their survival as a species depended on it. I am glad that some of them survived to reproduce!
>Last time, you asked me: if it was my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed. There is no choice. We must activate the ring.
>You can't imagine how exciting this is! To have a record of all OUR lost time. Human history, is it? Fascinating. Oh how I shall enjoy every moment of its categorization!
>You are the child of my makers! Inheritor of all they left behind! You ARE forerunner! But this ring is mine!
>Prophet of Mercy
>[your pal. where's he going?] Earth, to finish what was started. And this time, NONE of you will be left behind!
>Prophet of Truth
>Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion. Steeled themselves for what needed to be done. I see now why they left you behind... You were weak, and gods must be strong!
>Mendicant Bias
>FOR EONS I HAVE WATCHED
>LISTENED TO YOUR MISINTERPRET
>THIS IS NOT RECLAMATION
>THIS IS RECLAIMER
>AND THOSE IT REPRESENTS ARE MY MAKERS
>I WILL REJECT MY BIAS AND MAKE AMENDS
>MY MAKERS ARE MY MASTERS
>I WILL BRING THEM SAFELY TO THE ARK
In the end, what did they mean by this?
Maybe make it a little more vibrant but not much, it's already pretty good
I like the Culture novels but MA stomps
>can cross the galaxy in hours, Culture takes up to 2 years
>MA is bigger than the largest GSV
>Composer can compose all the humans on the GSV to fuck with the Minds in charge of protecting them then shart out 30 billion promethean knights to further attack the GSV from the inside with the MA’s portal technology
Give me a quick rundown on the Culture first
Mary Sues in space. Fun books though, definitely worth a read if you enjoy somewhat hardish space sci-fi desu
>HW2 guy being the art lead for infinite
Where did you even hear that, for one thing, he never even worked on Halo Infinite art that's Sparth, secondly, he already left 343.
>read basic rundown article on the wiki
>"dude it's like a post-scarcity society where there's no money or laws or organized government (because literally everything is decided via popular referendum) but since we've got infinity resources there's no problem and everyone just goes along with it by social pressure alone and we can defend ourselves with basically cargo ships and colony vessels because we're just that fucking awesome"
man this really isn't selling me on it desu
The books mostly focus on the fuckery of the Cultures version of the CIA with other galactic societies since focusing on the utopia of the Culture itself is boring.
Strongly vaginal
>CIA
?
Special Circumstances is basically CIA,MI6, KGB, and mossad all in one
Okay, thanks. I'll give it a shot. Its the Halo 5 MKV armor with some stuff on the texture to negate teh 343 patterns. I'm trying to get as close to blur as possible.
Mendicant really felt like shit after the Forerunner-Flood War. Offensive Bias really kicked his shit in
the fuck is methapod doing in the Halo universe
offensive bias was turbo gigachad autism supreme. hed kick anyones shit in
Offensive was a total chadbro. Hopefully he makes another appearance.
Wtf
343 really shit the bed when they made the Forerunners ayy lmaos and not just ancient humans.
>Around 4 million + Flood Warships
>Around 10,999 Forerunner ships
Offensive literally burned Mendicant's mongrel hide
t. omegavirgin redditor lite
Bungee started down that road with the terminals in H3
>Actually humans wuz space kangz and shit
The ships 343 and Spartan games made for Fleet Battles are pretty great, ironically
>spreading this meme
Bungie never had a consistent formal opinion on if humans shoulkd be forerunners or not, which is why IRIS and the Halo 3 terminals say no but other sources say yes.
>the Offensive Bias gigachad versus the Mendicant Bias Chad
Whoever designs that shit should leave and start designing weird sex toys
The terminals could and were interpreted either way before 343 chose the more lore-breaking of the two possible options to roll with. Me personally when I was playing through H3 the first time thought that the Forerunners had taken a bunch of themselves and reset their evolutionary progress back to before they were sentient and dumped them on Earth without they Librarian's knowledge. The whole terminal entry reads like the beginning of some big conspiracy theory with the Librarian going all "where could these things have come from woooooo~ this is so mysterious and spooky!"
Also Joseph Staten was the lead writer for H3 and he wrote Contact Harvest which pretty definitively settles the question (the Mendicant Bias quote).
>he doesn't like vertical spaceships
Apparently you can, but why would you want to go back? You’re now unable to infected by the flood, an eternal warrior
The didact’s soldiers believed so highly in their commander that they decided to do the same and be his sword to smite the flood
[07:H 36:M 41:S] My auxiliaries are momentarily stunned by Mendicant's opening move – 1,784,305 leisure craft ranging from [45 ~ 5769 tonnes] advance in hopes of overwhelming my comparatively tiny force. I do not have enough [weapon systems] to target them all.
It is a mathematical certainty that some of them will get through and attempt to board. There isn’t a single warship with this first wave. It seems my opponent’s rage has left no room for respect.
[04:H 01:M 55:S] I could have countered its move if I had released my fighters. They are ready but idle; making their base vessels more attractive prizes than targets. Now the first of many waves of commercial vessels mixed with single ships and assault craft surge forward. The first ship from my fleet to be boarded breaks formation and races into the oncoming vessels – striking one amidships. The cargo vessel’s hull split open and out of it explodes not the expected consumer goods but 31,860 dying warriors.
[00:H 19:M 02:S] The seventh and final wave of container ships, barges, tankers, and military vessels engage my fleet; another 214,320 ships, many in excess of [50,000 tonnes], engage my seemingly disrupted vanguard. I continue to fight just well enough to seem lucky.
Mendicant, or the enemy, has been sending a small percentage of its fleet elsewhere. Good. Let them believe they can seize a foothold somewhere inside the sphere.
[00:H 00:M 11:S] Despite all its faults, 05-032 has fought remarkably well.
My auxiliaries lay in tatters – more than half of them are now part of the enemy fleet. But just as I had predicted, 05-032 concentrated them like they were the sole key to victory. Its desire to punish our creators blinded it to the true purpose of my [feints]. I have reduced the combat effectiveness of its core fleet to 79.96 percent. Surely now it must realize that something is amiss.
[00:H 00:M 00:S] The [Halo effect] strikes our combined fleets. All ships piloted by biologicals are now [adrift].
I can trade Mendicant ship for ship now and still prevail.
[00:H 00:M 01:S] Of my ships that had been captured, 11.3 percent of them are close enough to Mendicant's core fleet that they can be used offensively – either by initiating their self-destruct sequences, or by opening unrestricted ruptures into [slipstream space].
It is best that our crews perished now; because the battle that is about to ensue would have driven them mad.
[00:H 00:M 02:S] I throw away all the rules of acceptable conduct during battle; near the ruptures I throw away all the accepted ideas of how the natural world is supposed to behave. I toss around [37,654 tonne] dreadnoughts like they were fighters; dimly aware of the former crews being crushed to deliquesce.
For now all my concentration is focused on inertial control and navigation. Targeting isn’t even a consideration – I will be engaging my enemy at arm’s length.
[00:H 01:M 14:S] 05-032 abandoned the tactic of using derelict ships as cover after [72:S] – It seems that 52 core vessels lost to the ruptured fuel cells of derelict ships was lesson enough. Add another 608 lost to collision, point fire, structural failure due to inertial manipulation, and [slipstream space] induced dis-coherence and I now outnumber Mendicant [6:1].
[00:H 03:M 00:S] Mendicant was able to postpone its inevitable annihilation for [106:S] with its attempt to flee. But the last of its core vessels hangs before me now; crippled and defeated but still sensate. I could spare it; carve out what is left of its [personality construct array] and deliver it to [Installation Zero] for study.
But I doubt it would have extended the same courtesy to me.
>we want the catastrophic shearing stresses audience
This, enough with Forerunners = Humans BS.
What are the numbers before each paragraph desu?
[11:H 15:M 48:S] Mendicant has burrowed through the sphere exactly where I expected – a direct path from initial rampancy to final retribution. Rage has made it predictable. If the fate of the crews of my auxiliary fleet were not already a foregone conclusion I would rate their chance of survival at [1:1,960,000].
Even though 05-032’s declaration of hostilities simplified strategic preparations; I do not expect an easy fight – just one I cannot lose.
[11:H 12:M 09:S] 05-032 was right about one thing: there is only one-way to defeat the enemy, and that is to visit utter annihilation on it.
If the galaxy must be [rendered temporarily lifeless]. So be it.
As Mendicant stated in its report [58.078:H 48:M 12:S ago]: half measures will not suffice.
[09:H 45:M 18:S] In support of 05-032’s original 1000 core vessels is a fleet numbering 4,802,019; though only 1.8 percent are warships – and only 2.4 percent of that number are capital ships – I am outnumbered [436.6:1]. I expect my losses will be near total, but overwhelming force has its own peculiar drawbacks.
Such a press of arms invites many opportunities for unintentional fratricide.
Nothing in the terminals explicitly implied that the forerunners weren't human. Honestly Forerunners being aliens seemed like a brainlet interpretation to me but it is what it is.
Bungie not being able to settle on humans being forerunners or humans being the forerunners chosen successors was fine and should have been left like that.
343's whole
>HUMANITY WAS REALLY STRONG ONCE BUT THEN THE FORERUNNERS GOT MAD AND DEVOLVED THEM BUT STILL DECIDED TO GIVE THEM ALL THEIR TECH???
decision is fucking dumb.
>implying a 300km spaceship can enter a planetary atmosphere anyways
>343shills are still defending this even though the "alternative" species bullshit has been retconned by HW2 and infinite
>implying that you're safe if you don't
what is turning for 300, Alex
I mean the gravemind/primordial can still corrupt composed essences as it did on Halo 7 during the war.
Is the monster on the right the artifact hunter from Doom 3?
>the "alternative" species bullshit has been retconned by HW2 and infinite
how did it retcon them?
By excluding them from every future game since the halo 4 artstyle was hated by the whole community
Nah, Guilty Spark confirms humanity is forerunner.
Thought it was called "Manlet's Approach" for a second.
manlet in comparison to what, it's fucking huge
In game 1. 2 games later by the same company the terminals say human are separate. Bungie were hacks.
Time before/after the Halo array struck the battle, killing the flood and forerunners. leaving the two AIs alone.
>thinks 400km is huge
Manlet detected
>spark
>known insane robot
>confirming anything
>The anomalous world is in a perilous location beyond the line.
>{//} (THE SECRETS IT HOLDS MUST BE PRESERVED)
>{//} (PLANS WITHIN PLANS WITHIN PLANS)
>The inhabitants; these unique denizens, must be researched.
>They may hold answers to our own mysteries.
>{//} (WHAT IRONY THAT WE DISCOVERED THIS TREASURE, ONLY AT THE END OF THINGS.)
>{//} (BUT WHAT FORTUNE THAT WE STILL HAD TIME TO SAVE THEM)
>The thing we built on that world will vouchsafe their lives,
>{//} (BUT PERHAPS ONE DAY IT WILL MAY BE USED FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE NOT)
>If the plan succeeds, and they are saved, it will be a good world.
>If the plan fails,
>{//} (AND THE ADVERSARY SUCCEEDS)
>it will remain an enigma forever
>{//} (WITH NO-ONE LEFT TO RECLAIM IT)
this is purposely vague, incredibly so, about where exactly these manlets on a suspiciously perfect world beyond the Wall came from. it's not definitive at all and stop pretending otherwise.
I like the banana mothership from Homeworld.
It's the most efficient shape for hyperspace travel.
Rampant AI do not lie, they just get emotional.
Alright time to add my 2 cents to the argument here
I always thought that Humans and Forerunners were different but the Forerunners kind of "adopted" Humanity in the mantle and made their tech compatible with Humanity
>in game 1
youtu.be
He was insane because of being isolated on the ring for so long. Doesn't mean he was lying.
Has anyone ever thought of how silly the covenant fighting humanity is if humans aren't actual forerunners? The whole reason the prophets ordered their people to genocide us was because if we were Literal Forerunners then our existence showed that the Great Journey left people behind, and thus our mere existence proved their religion false. If we aren't Literal Forerunners then this motivation doesn't work. Did they ever retcon Contact Harvest to address this?
I always thought that Humanity was to simply inherit the title, not actually be forerunners
not according to Joseph Staten
Blame 343 being dumb as usual. It didn't matter before if humanity was forerunner or selected by the forerunners to inherit the legacy of the forerunners. The end result was humanity was directly connected to them and thus a threat to the prophets and the entire foundation of the covenant.
343 for some stupid fucking reason decided that humanity needed to be just as ancient as the forerunners and fought a war with them.
This
I never really cared, they were bad aliens that wanted to conquer and wipe out the galaxy and I was going to stop them.
>343 for some stupid fucking reason decided that humanity needed to be just as ancient as the forerunners and fought a war with them.
Also have you ever thought about how dumb it is that we inherited the mantle from the forerunners after we fought a territorial war of conquest with them for one thousand fucking years and had to be beaten back into nonsapience?
Yeah.
It's monumentally fucking stupid.
Have you played the games? That plot line was laid out in Bungies tenure.
m8 there were direct quotes from both halo 1 and halo 2 telling you that you were literally a forerunner, or at the very least their descendants
I hate it, they look like this because this is what hard surface modelling in zbrush looks like. You just make a shape then harden the edges. Actually structured forms are hard to make. So you just end up with a bunch of nonsense noise.
343 trying to overcompensate.
>dude look it's big lol
Fuck off.
IIRC they were going to go with Humanity = Forerunners, but then they decided against it in Halo 3. So we have the disconnect and confusion between Halo 1/2 narrative and the Halo 3 terminals.
Which of the H3 terminals said otherwise? I can't find anything in the terminal transcripts.
that's not a retcon, dumbass
Imma just drop this here because its useful, if a bit verbose.
haruspis.blog
You just turn slowly.
Objectively perfect
That's not a retcon, a retcon is saying that those Elite subspecies from Halo 4 and 5 were the same ones from Halo 1-3.
All I wanted was the quote from the relevant H3 terminal that showed that humans were different from forerunners and this link doesn't deliver, user. It's a huge loredump from the Forerunner trilogy.
Are you actually reading them?
>I've remotely destroyed our
Keyships. A security measure.
Without them I cannot reach the Ark.
But neither then can the thing.
I'm trapped. On a beautiful, empty
world. Its inhabitants have been
safely indexed, every single one
of them. They're special - well
worth the effort it took to build
one final gateway, even at this late
hour.
Terminal 4, Librarian discovers Earth and Humanity.
And prove that this terminal implies that isn't what happens, especially in light of (which came from the pre-release marketing campaign)
Humans are the same as Forerunners
>no wings
>no landing gear
what the fuck. How is it going to land back on Earth?
it teleports
Man I can't believe this lore
>humans are getting their asses kicked by Flood so they start a 1000 year war with the Forerunners over a misunderstanding and at no point in all of these decades of conflict does anyone clear the misunderstanding up so they can fight their mutual enemy together
who writes this stuff? who signs off on it without seeing how dumb and contrived it is?
>big impossibly advanced civilization who built the halos and the ark can't have big ships
peak nostalgiafag
Shift the mouth of the helmet up, the visor is too tall/big
Because they were, arbiter and his elites share the same model
>inb4 but thats because they didnt have time for two models
Shit excuses, they wont be bothering to create two models for infinite either, the alternative species might as well ge gone.
You think a SPACEship needs to be aerodynamic?
That looks fine....
Does anyone have any idea how you're supposed to look at this?
I just put it as different art styles like what Bungie used to do.
like a star destroyer and not a giant temple
So did i and i would have accepted it, but 343 stated themselves they were an original do not steel species.
So is the chiefs armor
Like a Star Destroyer. The fight just happens on the top of the bridge there.
There is nothing wrong with saying that all of the covenant species have different races among them.
Fuck I finally see it, that part is higher up and the battle screen is more forward looking
This
They didn't say it in game, plus I stopped bitching after they gave an explanation for Chief's armor because an art change would have pissed me off when it came to Chief's armor, that shit needed to be explained no matter how shit the explanation was.
>dude nanomachines lmao
>"explanation"
>that shit needed to be explained no matter how shit the explanation was.
This is the type of shit that ruined the forerunners and basically halo as whole.
Having to make up stupid shit to explain every little thing to your dumbass fans is super gay
There is no point to it either.
You should start over.
isn't that as big as the Star Forge?
>an alien spaceship is not a good design if it doesnt resemble the spaceships that we humans use.
this is your brain on drugs.
That's the flu virus silly.
Don't change the damn armor so significantly next time then.
Understand that artistic freedom exists.
it's not bad because it looks different it looks bad because it looks like a literal turd
You see that little capsule with the spacemen in it? It splashed down in the ocean. It was nuts.
We Steel/Grass type now
I don't care, you don't radically change the Chief's iconic armor and call it "artistic freedom" that shit doesn't work for me plus them giving canon reasons is why the art is back to what it was in the first place, they would have went with that stupid explanation you keep flinging out of your ass and we would be stuck with Halo 4 and 5 shit art direction.
shit must have been so cash
