What's the Puella Magi Madoka Magica of videogames?

Something new, gets really dark, and is overrated while getting heralded as original or a """deconstruction""" even though it's been done before? Undertale.

Spec Ops is a deconstruction because it looks at and criticises its own concept - that of a first person shooter where you play the hero. It disguises itself as a normal FPS specifically to get players into it like one and then have them question the actions taken.

Madoka is not a deconstruction because it is simply a magical girl show that gets dark. It's not particularly saying anything about the genre it's in, it's just using the concept as part of its presentation to give off the air of innocence.

Both of these are fine things to do, I should add. I personally think both of them do them well too.

Earthbound is probably a better comparison as said. I'd say maybe not a perfect since Earthbound existed much earlier in the genres lifetime, but it was by no means one of the first JRPGs so there's that.
