ODST
Halo 3 ODST for campaign
Reach/3/2A for customs
I wish 5 wasn't a flop initially because its customs eventually became decent.
I've never actually got the chance to play ODST, whats so good about it?

ODST single player
CE multiplayer
If the pistol doesn't have both a scope and a 12-round magazine, it ain't shit.
IMO
2 > ODST > Reach > 3 > CE > 4 > 5; though 5 actually has really good MP and forge, but it being always online completely negates that
It has probably the second best story/writing of any of the games after 2: If you've played Reach, it's sort of similar in that you follow a squad and there's a lot of interactions between them, which works a lot better then CE and 3's more exclusive focus then MC, buit it's handled a bit better in ODST then in Reach. The missions are also all above average fore the seires: None are like 10/10 amazing, but all of them are pretty good to great, so there's a consistent quality.
The biggest thing in ODST's favor is the atmosphere. You are alone in a dead, abandoned, ruined, city teaming with covenant squads as an overworld you got between the missions with, the neon lights of signs flickering around you, as atmospheric piano and sax tracks play. The music is easily the best in the entire franchise, possible the industry, and the whole game has an incredsible melancholic, somber mood with a cross between a cyberpunk and film-noire tone. It doesn't go quite as far with the idea as it could have, since it still plays like a Halo game and the overworld is sort of the batrebones implementation of it, but it nails the execution of the atmosphere even if going for a more divergent gameplay style could have yielded even better results.

the fact ODST was made by a tiny side team in just under a year is pretty damn impressive, though, and makes it very easy to forgive its shortcomings
but he said ODST was like dlc and gave it a 6/10
