I figured it was very convincing but as with literally any information not from an official source, I assumed that it was not guaranteed. I would've liked Banjo and Shadow, though I felt the choices were a bit on the nose with "what the community wants" as opposed to being accurate to how Smash actually picks characters, and I felt five characters in one direct would be a bit much, especially after Sakurai said he would slow down with them.

Honestly, the grinch leak to me seemed like the beginning of a community wide backlash against insiders leaking shit. Granted people on here especially have disliked them for a while, but the grinch leak felt like this sentiment was a lot more widespread. When they're right they ruin surprises, and when they're wrong they get people excited for something that doesn't exist, and given the nature of the internet their rumors are damn near impossible to avoid. Also consider the following; Why would Square Enix, the same Square Enix that was jewish about Cloud and Final Fantasy content in Smash Ultimate, all of the sudden want to put one of their series that is much bigger than Final Fantasy put in Smash Bros if Final Fantasy inclusion in SE's eyes was a "risk" for them combined that with a composer that is also jewish about his musical works, it doesn't add up. And to be quiet honest, I wouldn't mind a DQ rep in Smash if it wasn't a DLC character. I would prefer a DQ rep for the base roster rather than a DLC fighter in the Fighter Pass

From there I got easily swayed by other anons filling in the blanks when others pointed out the VERY OBIVIOUS nature of the banner among other things. But it didn't matter.
I was so happy to see Yea Forums united against Vergeben, the cancer of the leak culture in itself surrounding attention whore "leakers" (since at the time we believed the leak to be anonymous) or zoomers who didn't even knew who those characters were and hated the leak for this alone.

The Grinch leak made Yea Forums extremely cancerous as fuck when it came to insiders. The solution isn't to unite against them, but to ignore them completely. Yea Forums's inability to ignore insiders just made them have more power over Yea Forums in the end.

I didn't because I am always skeptical of leaks from being in the tabletop gaming scene for too long. That said, I don't know why people were thinking this was true. This was the last direct, it was only an hour~ish long and we didn't get any news on spirit mode before then. It was mostly stupid to think they were going to show off 8 unique characters, some of which would require long explanations of their move sets (Such as Choir Kids).

The worst part was the fallout afterwards, nobody talked about anything else other than "muh character didn't get in" for no less than a month straight. It was infuriating and just confirmed to me rosterfags are the worst parts of the Smash fanbase, especially when they start to get so fucking up their ass that they claim Doom, FUCKING DOOM, was never relevant.

What had happened with that faked email is that Mystic put it together and sent it around to fool other insiders, hoping they would take the bait and someone eventually share it.

They were hoping people would share it and back it as valid to destroy their credibility and draw ire from the community like Mystic brought upon themselves.

I think Sakurai really showed off all the best newcomers to early, cause even as someone who wasn't t opposed to incineroar getting in, it was definitely a weak way to end things.
