The mortal blade isn't ever used outside the cutscenes, severing immortality or when using the special attack. We don't know how durable it is.

Additionally Kylo was injured which I assume gives him a damage boost considering he deliberately beat his own wound.
I think the requirement to beat Kylo consistently every time is around 7 skillpoints (maximum 100) in physical weapons or its equivalent.
