How much more longevity does he have in him? It feels like every subsequent Mario game is forgotten about sooner than the last. You notice nobody talks about basically any of the Mario games after Galaxy while everyone still discusses SMB, SMB3, SMW, and SM64 to this day?

Most people don't talk about SMB, SMB3 and SMW unless they are explicitly talking about good games from older generations. SM64 is in a similar boat, although it also gets additional discussion because of A press memes.
Modern games simply don't have opportunity to be as ground-breaking or important as the older games. NSMBU is probably the best 2D Mario in terms of content but it will never get as much praise as the older games because everything it did had already been done before.
