Setting up traps and watching them combo into each other with the right timing is fun as fuck.
I don't even especially care about the fanservice aspect, it's clear they went this route because it pulls in the desperate weebs as opposed to the darker art direction of the originals, it is what it is.
The series is incredibly niche as it is, i don't blame the devs for trying to rope in the based clueless otaku tards with some weeb lure, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive on this bitch of an earth.

Deception 4 has the best gameplay of any entry in the series, and Nightmare Princess in particular has a ton of content. The older games are still worth trying, though, particularly Deception 2.

4 is massively better than the early games because instead of having that awkward design screen you just plunk down traps as you go. Get Nightmare Princess version if you can, it has like double the content of the regular version (regular already has a lot, but NP has way more of it).

Deception 4 did make some significant improvements, but I think Deception 1 is the only game in the series where you aren't free to place traps at any time.

This is honestly one of the best hidden gems out there. It's fun as fuck and easy to pick up and get started. I wasn't surprised it flew under the radar, but this might be the first Deception 4 thread I've seen in a while.
For anyone thinking about it, make sure you get the updated version, not the vanilla one.

The series as a whole isn't meant to be erotic and that's it.
I know it looks like a porn game but it's origins, and fundamental mechanics, are rooted in actually trying to make a good game.
It's just that the series was basically dead and they were running out of ideas to appeal to a modern audience so they injected a fuckload of fanservice into it hoping it would help sales.

Decently, i think it sold better than the last entries did pre-DIV.
Well enough for an updated re-release of IV with more content, so that's a good indication right there.
In my opinion they sacrificed too much of the original atmosphere in the process, but i guess it's a deal with the devil kind of deal, and i can't really argue the results, the fact that we're talking about this series at all means they made the best possible choice considering their situation.
