I played THPS2 and Underground back to back a few months ago and loved THPS2 (even if it's not as good as 3) but pretty much hated everything about Underground. Don't get why people constantly sing the latter's praises.

Underground was clunky because they were trying to fit the pro skater game into a story mode that would be compelling. it played out pretty well, but OPs pic is the best.
its really sad that underground 3 never got made but American Wasteland was decent if not really wacky. building your own skatepark reminded me of decorating my room in bully but with a lot more use

Skateboarding just isn't as popular as it was back in the late 90s/early 00s media boom. Maybe skateboarding being part of the 2020 Olympics will give it a popularity boost, but I don't think it will ever be as mainstream as it used to be in order for AAA companies to start making games again.

I hated this, it's not like it's exorbitant to licence punk tunes, just get the original songs. They had Bad Religion's We're Only Gonna Die (which actually has a great cover by Sublime which would be perfect for a game set in socal) and some circle jerks/black flag but like, come on. I don't need pop punk misfits and descendents covers.
