The most playable characters in a mainline Sonic game was Heroes and that came out in 2003 so I really don't understand how people can use the "too many friends argument" in any game after Heroes.

Kind of, kind of not. I think the real point of contention up to '06 was that there were too many playable characters at once. Maybe they should go for a Touhou model.

It has a good sized roster for kart games and party games. If there’s any hope I have for TSR is it’s roster. For mainline sonic games (whatever the fuck that means), it is too much. Mania/Classic sonic can definitely make use of classic sonic characters even the cast from chaotic and sonic the fighters. Modern sonic and the boost formula shouldn’t really focus outside Sonic, Shadow, Metal Sonic, or Blaze. Unless they go down the adventure path and refine play styles for tails, knux, rouge, omega and silver. I do think they need to stop adding a NEW group of characters with some lame gameplay or plot gimmick and just relegate them to being background characters. Missed potential.

Man, I’d kill for a true riders 4 to bring the babylon rogues back. I’ll never not be mad at how ZG set the precedent for the death of the series.

Sonic needs his friends to be playable in future mainline 3D Sonic titles.

What weirds me out is they have this huge roster of characters with different abilities but they've only ever tried making a fighting game twice.

People were ecstatic when Mania brought Back Tails and Knuckles, Mighty and Ray in Plus, and people even want Metal, Fang and Amy so I wouldn't be too sure about that. Really hope it tells Sega to give us that variety on the 3D side too.

That's why I hope TSR does well and gets some good character DLC, to show SEGA that fans still like some of Sonic's friends and want to use them

Very odd omissions and choices. Makes no sense to bring 1/3 of chaotix and 2/3 of rose. The chaos are a fun addition but they should have just put on a team with Blaze and Silver. Fucking Zavok should just be allowed to fade into obscurity, Chaos Zero or a fucking egg pawn are a better choice than him. Hoping for a team Babylon (Jet, Wave, Storm) and a team Outlaw ( Fang, Bean, Bark).
I hope we do get better dlc down the line, Chaos 0, Tikal, Cream, the rest of chaotix.

Marine, Sticks, and Infinite have a better chance of appearing than any of the classic exclusive characters and even Tikal and Chaos.

They likely chose Chao over Cream because they wanted to reference the Chao Garden in some way, but I too hope they do fix the roster with DLC. I think the main reason for these odd picks is the 15 character mandate

It's likely SEGA to blame, they wanted all the most popular/important cast in the base game so they limited the roster to only the basics, then they may charge a bit for extra ones. It's a real fuckin shame, but it happens.

Just nitpicking for the sake of it, like when 4kids voiced the cast and people complained. Ironically Archiefags fail to realize Sonic has enough friends for the comic to use. It's almost comical how out of touch most non game sectors of the series is with how things are.

Big's part in adventure was unironically a pretty good fishing game, it's just that a fishing game of any kind is the last thing people want in their Sonic.

Classic Sonic's stages in Generations are mediocre, Sonic Team is terrible all-around.
