Considering Microsoft is pushing for a shared ecosystem between their console and Windows PCs and all first part games with be released for both I don't see how it could unless they dropped the Xbox completely which would be a bigger blow to the console market than PC. Also the fact the next generation of consoles are shaping up to be nothing more than locked down low end PCs built around Zen 2 APUs means ports will be even more trivial than they already are.

Hell my PC is 3 year old hardware (6700K/1080) but it runs games really well because I can choose the performance settings. With consoles you can't do any optimizing via custom settings so you're stuck with games that make great screenshots for advertisements but run like dgoshit when it actually comes to gameplay.

People say exclusives were bad for consumers but they gave great reason for you to get a system, they took optimization on the system to a new level, and generally took gaming to new heights. Nowadays everyone has to chase after the lowest common denominator if they want to turn a profit, so every game ends up samey.

i use the steamlink app on my tablet, it just streams your pc screen and sets up virtual controls.
works pretty well for indies because most of them are pretty simple and dont require a super high framerate or response time

It takes maybe 3 months of forethought to release a game on any platform. 99% of publishing firms will happily take part of your revenues and shit your game out on the storefronts if they think it'll make money enough to justify the costs.
This gen sony and MS (and nintendo even) made great strides to try and improve indie relations because of how hard MS fucked them with the $50,000 USD price tag to patch games. Now it's free to patch, you just have to ship them through QA and if you exceed 5 patches a month you have to start paying per patch past that limit. Not usually an issue though.

For one, it's not real 4k. In the ps4 pro is mostly checkered 4k so not native and it still runs at low frames. The Xbox one x can run native 4k but again a movie tier fre rates. New hardware is realeased because enthusiasts will buy it. 3D artists will buy it and people who don't know better will buy it. Doesn't mean they need it. I have secondary pc with an i5 2500k and a 1050ti that runs any game better and prettier than my ps4 can. And honestly who cares about 4k. It's still hard to render natively even for some high end pc's. I truly prefer 1440p and 21:9 at over 100hz than 4k under 60.

2500k only officially supports up to DDR3-1333. Most 2500k systems run 1333 or 1600.

Emulation, simulators, PC will always have superior multiplayer tech and modding options. You can play practically anything made for x86 platforms and not from the last 30 years.

That doesn't even begin to address the fact that consoles have no productivity value and vendors will never allow them to be customized or actually run an OS that can do anything for fear of hacking and reverse engineering.

Lastly a decent PC build can last far longer than a console. 8 year old rigs with mid range cards can still take a steaming dump on modern consoles and are only just starting to actually show their age in resolutions above 1080p.

So really for not much more in terms of cost you get much much more value and utility.

actually RDR feels like a decent game being suffocated by some directorial decisions. if it controlled better and was faster it would probably be a pretty good game. but it would still feel extremely scripted for such an ambitious open world game. it feels like it only has openness and detail when nothing matter, when things matter, you can't make decisions.

Multiplats run better on PC. You have more fps, higher resolutions, significantly less input lag, and in the case of PS4 games less censorship.

I don't know why people don't mention more often that playing with a controller for the most part just sucks. Even for games like souls I found a mouse to be superior in every way. FPS with a controller has and will always be a aim assist joke. About the only thing that feels alright is flight sims and thats limited to arcade garbage.

Honestly, I know a lot of older people who've made the move already.
I'm talking like people in their late 30's/early 40's -- at this age, they all seem to obsessed with graphics. Probably 'back in my dad' shite.
Hence why they got into PC gaming in the first place. But now they have kids and family, and in general their interest in gaming has waned, but they still like to keep ontop of things.
So they buy a 4k TV because that's a justifiable purchase to the wife, everyone can watch it, and then they get a XBX because it's it produces the best visuals and that's all they care about.
Prob a weird angle to look at it, but I know at least 10 dads who've done this, and they all really used to be into PC's back in the day (I met a lot of them on overclocking forums.)
