Big Zelda fan here, played and finished every single game in the series. What makes BoTW so loved, so "good"? Is it because modern gamers are mostly casuals that are easily entertained?

It's an empty sandbox game with almost no elements that define the classic, lovable Zelda formula. If it didn't have the Zelda IP slapped on it, it would be nothing but a mediocre game.
