im not sure either, exploring was one of the lesser interesting things in WoW desu, at least in classic the zones were rather lazy and empty, same for tbc. it was only in lich king that the zones started to get really interesting to explore.

honestly, private servers gave me more of that classic feel because of the chaos and the rugged community and less because of authentic numbers/mechanics, but private servers are hit and miss so we might not all have had the same experience on them

starcraft remastered unironically killed brood war in korea which was still kind of big before the remaster. But the remaster made the online servers super laggy for koreans regardless of which version you had for like a year which kind of forced a lot of people to move on.

The playerbase is actually good now. The skill required in classic is low compared to the average retail expansion's middle ground to peak. Players are used to at least some slight complexity with PvE rotation and in classic there is none. Gladiator experience players are going to be clumped in with rivals and duelists because the PvP is more dependent on gear and class than skill. Even if you have the same gear as a duelist level player the skill ceiling is so low that you probably won't have much room to finesse him.

Shitters are excited for classic because they weren't able to compete in more difficult expansions. Now they have a chance at the top.

I still can't wait to play it.

Actually I've never explored fully zones like the plaguelands, hinterlands and the stonetalon mountains. I never played Classic, only breezed through leveling to get to 80 (started on WotLK private server) and then later when I started retail it was so fast to get to max level I never got to experience those zones mainly because I was a DK main so I already start at 55.

classic was more of a rock scissors stone game, naked max lvl rogues with lvl 1 daggers could gank certain geared classes easily with enough skill. and then things like wotf were pretty much a win button against warlocks. dont understand me wrong tho, the lack of balance actually made the game betetr, because you were dependant on others to help you win certain fights which made the game more social already during the leveling experience
