Was it a good idea for nintendo to not localize lost levels and instead reskin dokidoki panic?

It wound being good in hindsight.

I'd say yes just because it brought a lot of now-iconic stuff into the Mario universe

birdo is pretty hot and shy gal only exists because of that

Yes, nobody at the time would have given a fuck about a hard more reskin of the same game they already played once

You know Doki Doki originally WAS a Mario game, right?

there was a tv show with this theme

so yes

Obviously because the game we got was fucking amazing and the game we missed was mediocre DLC

Yes because they use the imagery from this game to this day, while the original Mario 2 was basically a level expansion pack with cheesy bullshit. For maintaining iconography it was a great choice.

>Make generic game
>Put Zelda/Mario on the cover
Good old trick.

why do you keep making this thread when the answer is always a resounding yes?

honestly curious: what the fuck is doki doki panic?

Lost Levels fucking sucks.

Zoomer detected

it's good as an expansion but not as a sequel.

one of the best coop games ever made. yeah it was a fucking good idea.

ye

Burgers would not win the first level of lost levels

that wikipedia article is terribly written probably by weeb otaku nintendofag.

Why did they never make another one in this style?

Same reason Zelda II is its own entity; Early installment of a not fully established series.

But it's pure ludo, and 2D Mario means it's a guaranteed success no matter what.

Unpopular opinion here, but I actually like Mario 2. There's a novelty to being multiple characters that is lost in future titles like Mario 3, Super Mario, and Mario 64.

Even if the differences in gameplay are minuscule it is still a neat and fun addition.

Yes because shyguys have literally become one of the more iconic mario enemies.

This. Not my favorite game in the series, not by a long stretch, but it certainly gave a lot of good stuff to Mario universe.

Shyguy's 'Mreowr' voice gives me life.

>actual new game (to Americans) as opposed to basically a level expansion pack
>dolled up and improved version of original Japanese game
>fuck load of new enemies and elements that would go on to become franchise staples
Yes.

yes and no
-jap smb2 sucks
-eng smb2 removes the main gimmick of mario, jumping on enemies to kill them
