The undead isn't going to sit there and let themselves get killed. How do you expect a small quarantine force to contend with an entire city's population worth of undead that is not rampaging blindly either, but is controlled by Mal'Ganis and the Cult of the Damned necromancers? They would all be ran down and killed had Arthas not done what he did. If Stratholme were to be left alone, all of the citizens would have been guaranteed to turn into undead, no exceptions. Those still living would be killed by the undead and the necromancers would then reanimate them, adding the corpses to their already massive army. You keep forgetting that every time a living being dies and its body is not destroyed utterly or turned to ashes, the Scourge gets another soldier.

Arthas grew more and more desperate to do or sacrifice anything in order to kill Mal'Ganis precisely because he correctly perceived himself to be alone in fighting the Scourge. Arthas was well aware that had he not purged Stratholme, Lordaeron would have died right there. And none of his loved ones stood with him. He had literally nobody to lean on until running into Muradin and by then it was too late, Mal'Ganis HAD to die. But Arthas never should have been left to get that desperate on his own. Jaina and Uther may not have needed to condone Stratholme, but straight up abandoning him was the worst possible action.

I'm genuinely pissed off that Warlords of Draenor completely fucked up a great opportunity of the expansion.

It would have been awesome for a major patch to have the dark portal be rebuilt by Gul'Dan and have an army come forth from the Burning Legion (which was done for Hellfire Citadel but only for one boss fight). Since the Legion failed to convince orcs to join in the cinematic, they went elsewhere to gather a planet invading army, and so after the players unite the tribes of orcs under some redeemed Grommash, Gul'Dan has a last ditch effort to conquer Draenor and wipe out the Draenei, with the help of Archimonde and Kil'Jaeden. Once the dark portal is rebuilt in the final patch of Warlords of Draenor, there would be an invasion into Draenor from demon corrupted Azeroth which was directly taken over by Sargeras. So then you'd have a demonic army led by the corrupted King Llane Wrynn, corrupted Medivh, and corrupted Malfurion and Tyrande. It would be an inversion of what happened in the normal timeline. I'm still baffled Blizzard didn't think of this.

Kul'Tiras then joins the Alliance and she leads an attack against the Zanfalari fleet which kills Rastakhan. Then Sylvanas resurrects her dead brother Derek to brainwash him to assassinate her, but Baine rescues him and returns him to Jaina.

What happened with Blizzard and lore in general? Even if it wasn't deep litterature it was fun to follow and I couldn't stop playing to see what'd happen next. Wow used to have pretty good worldbuilding going on too.
Now it's just a bunch of random shit scattered all over the place, in all their franchises, just a big trainwreck of a fanfiction made real.

It was just wc2/wc3 and every orginal idea was trash, with exceptions like Garrosh, the Scarlett crusade.

WoW lore was shit from day1 and it was at its worst in TBC.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

Warcraft III having good lore is merely an illusion.
It has ONE good story: the story of Arthas Menethil. The rest are unmemorable drivel (Rexxar, Thrall) or straight up trash (Illidan).

Just as an example consider this: the first time we meet Illidan he is in jail. He has been jailed for 10000 years and became blind. This is a MAJOR, MAJOR plot point. It's the whole reason behind the actions of Illidan himself, Maiev, and Furion with Tyrande. It is what brings him to meet Kael, Vashj, Kil'Jaeden, and ultimately Arthas.
At some points Illidan seems more sympathetic, and other times more cruel. Furion hates him and won't let him come back. Tyrande loves/hates him too. All because of his CRIMES. The CRIMES he was jailed for.

...now I looked it up. In the whole of Warcraft III there is NEVER ANY MENTION of what crimes Illidan did. NONE. They decided afterwards some bullshit story with some holy moonwell.

Whenever a character is against Illidan because of his CRIMES, for which he was JAILED AND BLINDED for an eternity, the player is given NO ELEMENTS to decide who to side with.

He's not morally grey, he's morally brown. A murky, confused, messy brown nobody can see through because they hadn't decided a story yet. An immense plot point, ignored.

had to switch the characters a bit because it was too similar to warhammer
