Is gaming on a crt worth if I only ever plan to emulate from PC?

Is gaming on a crt worth if I only ever plan to emulate from PC?
It seems retro gaming drove the price of these insanely high.

And then if I take it correctly, I would still need to figure out how to output source(from any system) to the CRT monitor?
I keep searching for guides on how to make it output the display from my PC, but there aren't many sources around and most won't explain the process as its complicated.

I have the money for an average priced PVM as there are many Sony trinitrons around.

But are there easier alternatives?
I would even go for an old LCD as long as it captures and renders good retro visuals.

Who the fuck cares just use a monitor

Retro gaming didn't drive the prices high, the fact that they literally aren't made anymore did.

Is gaming on a crt worth if I only ever plan to emulate from PC?
Nop. Emulation itself doesn't equals the real hardware so it's kinda pointless.

No, it is retro gaming that drove it high. Literally no one else cares about these monitors or uses them other than for games these days.

What can I do or use to get the best render in terms of aesthetic and audio?

Trinitrons will bring a Sony tax. There are other brands that are just as good if not better that might be cheaper. JVC, Panasonic, Ikegami, NEC, all make comparable monitors and can often be found cheaper than Sony equivalents. Part of the fun of buying crts used to be getting high end video equipment for cheap, which can still be done but takes more patience and time.
I like the look of crts but don't get hung up on high end broadcast monitors. Later made consumer grade stuff looks great and can often be had for very cheap or even free. Get creative wi h your search and you'll multiply your options.
You can also emulate on a pc with a crt, which is a good way to play certain consoles that have just become unreasonably expensive.

PC CRT monitors if you have a dvi-i or vga port. You can simulate 240p on them but it won't look the same as a TV.
There's a way to output on a real TV with a radeon gpu and RGB but it's complicated.
Hack a Wii, you can output 240p on most of it's emulators with composite, s-video and component.

I looked onto NEC but of their stuff are cpu with monitors and cables that are hardly used nowadays.
Also not all the CRT monitors are good or better choice than LCD.

JVC and Sony produce the best crt.
Prices between trinitrons or JVC monitors are relatively the same, actually some are more expensive because of how rare they are.

Any pc CRT with scanlines?

Just emulate on a CRT TV with a hacked Wii. It's really simple to do and you can even buy a pre-hacked Wii online for fairly cheap, less than the price of your standard PVM. Wii has native composite output and can also do component.

This is fucking dumb

>aesthetic and audio?
You mean like the same as the console?

Pam's are not worth it anymore. Either get a late generation consumer Trinitron TV, or get a Framemeister. Too many people out there with more money than sense have caused the PVM market to become inaccessible to most people. Hell you're better off just buying a 4k TV with prices being what they are.

I got a trinitron off craigslist last year for free. It needed a new degauss coil but I just took one from another free CRT and it was piss easy to change out.

That hasn't been my experience but okay.
Basically I would avoid paying meme prices unless you really need to have one now. I didn't get into crts until last year and I ended up with 3 pvms, a jvc, and a pc trinitron for like $200. Cables are the biggest ripoff so make your own when possible.

>Any pc CRT with scanlines?
What do you mean by that? All crts have scan lines, that's how electron beams works. If you mean the """black""" lines it's because some games are rendered at 240p instead of 480i.

I don't know how anyone could game on such a small screen is baffling.

Thats what I used to say before I got 30.

You mean get an OSSC. Far more accessible than a framemeister at this point.

Thats what we have done for decades, it fucking sucked even back then.

However if you had lived these rainy nights, playing megadrive/snes on a CRT monitors blowing all these electrons to your face while eating a slice of pizza, you would probably understand the appeal.

Does anyone happen to know how an OSSC compares to a CRT when paired with a low input lag monitor/TV?

Also I heard it has problems with switching to 480i for cutscenes etc, does that means there are a few consoles which aren't recommended for it?

I'm still wrestling with whether I should just stick to emulating or move to original hardware with flashcarts/modchips.

If you're just emulating, just use shaders. If you're emulating and watching a lot of 70s/80s/90s anime, then get one.

I love having my consoles and but emulation is fine really.
Really depends on what you are wanting to play though.

>shaders
>ever
kill you are self.

Yes. PC CRTs are the hidden gem of monitors. Unlike those shitty TVs everyone memes a good PC CRT can run 2048x1536 at 85Hz, or 1042x768 at 120Hz.

t. zoomer faggot who never saw a crt in his life just heard about "muh skanlinezzz" from r/pcmasterrace

Just get a PC CRT monitor. The picture will look a bit too sharp, but that's fine and it's still better than any flat panel you can get. Emulation is also fine, as long as you're emulating 4th gen or below.

I have an OSSC. It works great and looks great for most games but for resolution switching games you might just want to use a CRT or emulation.

>The picture will look a bit too sharp
This. 240p games on a PC CRT starts looking like a 50% scanline shader.

nigga u cudda died

Unlike you he can read.
>label says "high voltage"
>touches it

Fuck I want to like and finish that game but I got sick of moving 50 units a turn, especially considering how slow it is

You can set the soldier units to perform actions automatically.
