Hello Yea Forums

Hello Yea Forums.
I've been hearing about how good From Software games like the Dark Souls line, Bloodborne, and Sekiro have been from a gameplay, story and visual standpoint. However, I have heard that they are ball-bustingly difficult they are to learn. I personally am a fan of games like Tropico, Titanfall, etc and an far from familiar with it. How would you recommend I try to at least enjoy them?

They really aren't too difficult after you get a hang of the mechanics and finish one of them. I would suggest you play dark souls 1 or demon's souls first, avoid 2 entirely, then pick bloodborne, dark souls 3 or sekiro

They are the epitome of combat and level/enemy design.

Noted. I know DS2 is currently on the PlayStation Now streaming service, which I have, so should I just play a bit of that to get the hang of it and go back to 1?

Don't listen to this fag The original Dark Souls 2 is the best Dark Souls. Reddit just like to shit on it because muh eceleb epic youtuber hates it.

It’s not hard, it’s just different. It requires you to not be casual. Just forget what you’ve heard and start with dark souls 3, it’s the most accessible and story is kinda irrelevant if you’re just trying it out

You're talking about Yathzee from rhe Escapist, no? I know he hated 2.

DS2 is fine dont listen to these salty virgins. All soulsbourne games are great, sekiro too.

take it slow, don't mash buttons, keep calm and try not to get frustrated.
if you feel fed up, close the game and do something else, don't go full retard and rage because of a videogame, then try again later or the next day. You will start to grasp the game around after the Gargoyle bossfight, you'll know when you reach it.

Dark Souls 1 is a great game, wish I could play it again for the first time

>DemonSSouls/Dark Souls 1
both are great first experiences and feel absolutely amazing to explore and learn.
>Dark Souls 2
Skip it unless you want to really play all of them.
>Dark Souls 3/Bloodborne
Play after having finished 1. They are not that great in level design but have a faster gameplay.

Despite what people say Dark Souls is very forgiving. You cant really "lose" anything on death, you respawn at a bonfire and can retrieve ALL of your lost souls and humanity.
Consumables are very cheap too and wont become an issue lategame.

Someone post the beginners guide jpg.

The 'highly difficult' shit is just a meme from casuals. If you want a good starting point, try DeS first, you'll begin to like the other games as you go on. If you want a bit faster combat, try BB with DLC, its GOOD

In general, thank you, Yea Forums. I plan on trying them later today.

I started with Bloodborne and also finished and enjoyed DS3 and Sekiro. Meanwhile DS1 was a brutal slog that broke me. They've definitely gotten more user-friendly over the years, but if you are not generally good with action games they might be tough.

2 is in many aspects inferior. The only things it has going for it is the at times pretty neat dreamy atmosphere and the build variety.
But when you have busted tracking on enemies, the worst leveldesign in the series and iframes that are tied to a goddamn stat plus floaty and slow as fuck combat thats not meant for 1vsMany combat but they still have you engage in that because lmao difficulty, then that ultimately doesn't mean much

I want to like 2, it has a unique atmosphere but it just sucks mechanics wise

DS2 is kinda like a spin-off game so sure, go for it.

no problem. Check out /dsg/ on /vg/ if you need any help.

agree with all of this except lumping Bloodborne in with DS3. DS3 was closer to bloodborne combat in a souls game, which kinda works but isn't the best.

Bloodborne on its own rivals the top or 2nd spot for me

This, they’re more “punishing” then difficult in that if you fuck up, the game will punish you. The games also farely obtuse as far as telling its own mechanics so a lot of the fun of the first playthrough is just figuring out how it works.

>pretty neat dreamy atmosphere and the build variety.
This is exactly why I like it more than Dark Souls 1 and 3.
It's a real sequel with a completely different feel and a massive amount of content.

Both statements are false. The Soulsborne games are mediocre at best, and can be broken open easily (for example dodging is not real dodging but i-frame span).
Don't waste your time with them.

I would recommend you play Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 and 3, Bloodborne and Sekiro (these are all directed by Miyazaki)
Dark Souls 2 is made by a different team, which is why many fans dislike it. It's a good game, I would still recommend that you play it, but it's not unwarranted to call it a bad souls game

Bloodborne is a good game. Dark Souls is not. No idea why people like it so much. The controls are unresponsive, the game is piss easy with a few awful massive difficulty spikes, there is so much downtime just trying to make weapons or get from point A to point B, covenants are useless, and I never even bothered to learn how the multiplayer works because it's completely unneeded and pointlessly obtuse.

Dark souls 2 is a bad souls game but a great kingsfield successor

yeah I can see that but to me it really comes down to the mechanics and gameplay, which really fell short in 2 compared to every other entry.

It's not bad by any means, just compared to the others it falls behind imo

>dodging is not real dodging but dodging

>dodging is not real dodging but i-frame span
So basically every dodge mechanic in almost every game that features a dodge since the past two decades?

Are you asking if you should play them?

Yes. Play them. Go in blind. Stay off Yea Forums. That's really the best way. They have great combat pacing, level design, encounter structure, and boss battles.

Definitely worth playing through Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Maybe Dark Souls 3 as well if you like the first ones. Dark Souls 2 is skippable.

Souls games are always a big chunk of 3x3 threads, they are one of the best/the best games ever played for a lot of people including me. Definitely a must play games, at least one of them to check will it click with you.

Dodge is more important than block.
Disregard defensive stats and miracles. Invest in strength or dex(if you're gay lol)
If an area feels overtuned and more difficult than you're prepared to deal with, fucking go somewhere else instead.
Black Knight Halberd and Gravelord sword will carry any shitter to the end of the game. Other weapons are unnecessary.

you are copletely exposed as a brainlet, dear god thank you for making brainlets so obvious to spot

Dodging on any videogame is moving away your character from the attack's reach.
Dodging in Soulsborne is pressing an intangibility button. A fucking dragon breaths fire on your face? You just jump in front of it and end as good as new.
Also:
>Braindead enemies
>No real penalty for dying
>No game over / defeat condition
>Your healing item has infinite free recharges or it's easy to farm
>Can summon another player to beat the game for you

just stop posting please, your lack of brain hurts me a lot

Start with Dark Souls, getting Demon's souls going without a PS3 would be difficult.

Avoid Bloodborne if you genuinely enjoyed Dark Souls, it's a mish-mash where you primarily fight just monsters instead of human enemies, and blocking is a feature but useless, which is why you don't even have any option to start with a shield
Dark souls 2 is pretty good followup too

>Avoid Bloodborne
fuck no, BB and DS are the best games in the series

First refute what I said

For me, Dark Souls 3 is the worse. It's the only Soulsborne game I only finished once.
It felt like a chore. There are too many THAT level and THAT boss that are just not fun to replay. The combat felt more like Bloodborne but with none of the fun weapons and refinement. Too many bosses with multiple enemies or multiple health bar gimmick which would be fun for 1 or 2 bosses but they went way overboard. The levels and NPCs were mostly rehashed for the sake of fanservice.

Literally just play them, there's a point while playing where something clicks and everything becomes a cakewalk.

He has a point, dodge i-frames in other games are rarely exploitable like they are in Souls, you need to get really good at the timing in order to use them to 'go through' attacks instead of dodging away. For Souls that's the intended use, there's rarely any way to reposition yourself with a roll, and attacks are usually so large that you have to abuse i-frames instead of actually getting out of the way. Ultimately this removes suspension of disbelief, because you aren't 'dodging' an attack, you are taking advantage of i-frames, a concept that doesn't exist in in the game's world. You can't ever really get immersed in Dark Souls, you're constantly being reminded that you are playing a video game.

Only played DaS and Sekiro.

Trying DS3 right now on PC, why does it feel like it has absolutely no soul?
The entire starting region looks so fucking ugly and the enemies so unoriginal. Does it get better later?

>Hello Yea Forums
Is it like Hello Kitty?

of course it doesnt have soul, the game is not old enough to be praised by autists with nostalgia goggles.

I really want to play DaS again and do a 100% bosses clear this time but then I remember the capra demon fight and lose all my interest.

ill humour (you)

you are lying. iframes are there so you have a little leniency when avoiding attacks, because otherwise, the window would be super tight or youd have to make the game slow as fuck. tell me a game with fast combat that doesn't have iframes on the dodge and is therefore, by your autistic definition a "true" dodge

The only thing people liked about DS3 are the bosses and human enemies, other than that is... ugh

Even if you do decide to play 2, never start with it.
It's so radically different from the rest of the series that you'll get pre-conceived notions about how a Souls game is supposed to be and feel like.
Start with the first entry in one of their series' and you can't go wrong.

First stop talking like a faggot, and second just play the games, man.

I'd recommend starting with DaS1 or BB. And don't forget to play the DLC for each of them.

i agree with this. one could make an argument that, while DaS2 might fall short on some things, DaS3 is quite stale at times

Nah man Bloodborne has great level design. Way better than 3. You're doing Bloodborne a disservice by associationg it with Dark Souls 3.
Bloodborne is genuinely one of their best, if not their best game. It's much closer in design to the original Dark Souls than to Dark Souls 3 as well.

apart from your autismal dodge rant, you don't even have an argument.

the things you listed, you take for granted that they are simply bad. no explanation, nothing. why does it need a game over condition for example? dont just throw out things that make you sperg out and expect others to debate them

They're not hard at all, they just require you to actually look at what the enemy does and to not just mash buttons on the normal enemies.
Basically, anyone who says they're hard is just casual.

Sekiro is the best of them by quite a margin. It’s also the most difficult. I’d personally leave it until last.

I’d go DS1 -> DS3 -> BB -> Sekiro

DS1 is pretty shit after O&S but overall it leaves quite an impression.

DS3 has some good moments and Nameless King is a top tier boss.

BB is pretty great throughout and the DLC makes it exceptional.

Sekiro is a masterpiece plain and simple. The gameplay is simply unmatched.

Before anyone mentions DS2 - it’s not a Fromsoft game and anyone defending it is a contrarian bitch.

>Sekiro is a masterpiece plain and simple. The gameplay is simply unmatched.
I disagree so much with this

Did you finish Sekiro? Answer honestly.
