This looks a bit different from what I remember. Was there an update?

fuck off weeb with your powerpoint anime.

MY WIFE

I don't know when you last played it, but it's still being worked on to this day.

SON

HIRE ME RIGHT NOW NINTENDO

NINTENDO

weeee yeah everything should be overanimated

The nintendo fanboyism in this thread is reaching critical levels.

you're a dumb retard who thinks 3FPS animated porn is the peak of animation as an artistic medium.

uhhh, its not 3d? where's the obligatory beyonce dance party? i don't think that's disney, champ

I can't imagine what kind of person would argue against putting life and character in your video game sprite animations.

man so many wrong things in that image from gameplay to graphic design

look at this 3fps jap shit

>What happens when he falls into a lava hole? Does he just bounce out of it hurt? Fuckin’ stupid.
Is there a term for when someone asks a question, answers it themselves, and then criticizes that answer? There must be a word for it.

I like anime and I'm mostly a weeb, but learning animation has made me realize how better is disney technique wise.

anime is like a cheap chinese plastic crap that barelly functions.

List them.

>30,000 year old animation
show me something from this year from disney

nigger, modern day japan can't even reach shit from the reinaissance.

japs don't know how to draw, or do 3D or do animation.

I had to learn from the west because japs are utter garbage.

>lack of clarity on hitbox for Mario - actual mario sprites and even 3d are clear which part of his body is the hitbox when jumping whereas this one tries for a 2d art garbage
>block sprite and mario not being similar in width - basic size of mario enemies have a tendency to follow brick width more often than not, same with mario
>the retarded "character" for the goomba tower despite actually being ill-advised in sprite design because it renders the hitbox false due to how thing work

It's the usual "draws fake screens but is actually terrible when applied as a game".

Also it has that disgusting nu-pixel shit you see in modern indie games that try to ape 16-bit whereas actual designs back then are clean. because more likely the faggots who made this only played old games through an emulator with wrong resolution

Not him but
>inconsistent pixel sizes
>rotating pixels
>no attempt at smoothing the outlines, making them look jagged
>that weird black space in the piranha plant's mouth
>nonsense shading on the pipe
>scale is all fucked; the ground blocks are differently sized from the floating blocks and mario and the enemies are way too big

>muh retro consoles limitations
>muh I need to autistically emulate 1:1 the old school limitations
seethe more dumb retard.

most kids born today never played your garbage retro consoles, they don't give a fuck.

also
>outlines of the blocks look too thick when next to each other (smb1 avoided this but 3 did not)

My post has nothing to do with authenticity or limitations. I explained why it looks bad from a graphic design standpoint.

Now THIS is fanboyism.

I want a game with hand-drawn animation like Wario Land Shake It, in Kotabe's art style.

Fuck I miss Kotabe's art. It's so much better than the soulless 3D New Super Mario Bros visuals.

Attached: super-mario-bros-3-poster_a-G-10720305-0.jpg (473x353, 48K)

There's a difference between good animation and being overly animated.

Second poster here, I hate Nintendo.

most gamers don't care about it, it looks fine to most normalfags.

compared it to most indie gamers and it BTFO anything /agdg/ can make.

A lot of good points in that post, user. People disagreeing with this should probably stick to just playing games.

it's not fanboyism you nigger, it's common design principle

it's the same reason why I laugh at someone who claimed some painting style mario fanart as "ideal 2d mario for the new age" when it has many elements wrong as an actual platformer

>most gamers don't care about it, it looks fine to most normalfags.
Okay, thanks for your useless argumentum ad populum. I'm concerned with things looking good, not "fine to most normalfags".

Every single one of these complaints applies to Yoshi's Island, and everyone loves that game.

It's really easy to tell most fan art garbage don't know how actual gameplay design works. They're too focused giving on "muh character" on sprite that they forget sprite economy.

For fucks sake NES era sprites only have few frames of animation yet still retain immediate, noticeable reactions.

perfectionists faggots never get things done.

most perfectionists can't even finish a single level because muh is not perfect enough.

get over it.

>and everyone lo-
argumentum ad populum
And Yoshi's Island does not use rotating pixels, it uses mode seven, which only imitates rotation.

No it doesn't? Have you played Yoshi's Island recently?

>clear distinction between Yoshi, the background, solid parts, solid enemies
>when Yoshi animates you have a clear idea which part of his sprite is the hitbox
>same with baby Mario especially when hit
>clearcut UI
>simple animations

Attached: SNES_01.gif (320x240, 38K)

Knots are sexy though?

Yoshi's Island has smoothed outlines

I liked how NSMB originally tried to merge the 2-D and 3-D Mario worlds. It was a cool design choice that showed just what they wanted the standard to be for Mario's world, but that uniformity led to unoriginal characters and level themes that every seems to be sick of now. Mario Odyssey is the first game in a while to really start breaking away at traditional Mario conventions and I feel as though it's time to give that a try with 2-D Mario. There isn't much of a point in using 3-D models for those games any more. I feel like with the technology we have now a hand drawn game could really be something great.

Attached: 1541776054675.png (500x500, 220K)

I'm not even talking about limitations you nignog. I'm just talking about how fanart often never works when applied as a game.

>if you want something to look good, you are a perfectionist
okay retard

They can. As long as it's not something like OP which is just retarded "muh full of quirky characters!" without thinking of how sprites should both be about showing gameplay mechanics and graphics.

I've been playing this game again recently and I've fallen back in love with it. I'd kill to have another Mario platformer with actual style and atmosphere.

>best 2D mario
>Levels are just straight from SMB but with pretty pixels
>Controls exactly like NSMB but pretty pixels
>best

Are you brain damaged?

it's also one of a kind in its gameplay too

just checked that game out
looks amazing, couldve been an official gba game back in the day

the music REALLY doesnt fit though

That game has a heaping helping of Soi

Why do your retards do this? A fan makes something to do with a Nintendo IP and you guys spazz out. Because Nintendo doesn't approve? How pathetic.

PROTIP: lampooning anyone who disagrees with you by simplifying their position down to "muh____" does not make your argument stronger.

>some amateur working for free on his basement should have the same expectations and billion dollar companies
ok retards.

Still looks better than 2D mario games, get over it.

omg...nintendo hire this man!!

HIRE

It doesn't though. It looks awful. You can't brush over those fucking scale issues.

still looks better than 99.9 % indie games.

you make it sound like "the opposition" has a point

>makes a game
>should not have basic standards
>he thinks it's about nintendo

I can literally use Castlevania as an example and still apply to this

Because they know it looks better than what modern Nintendo has been squeezing out for one billionth of the price, but admitting that would be even marginal criticism to Nintendo, the best video game company ever in the entire world who has never made a mistake or a bad choice about anything ever, which is a big no-no in the mind of a fanboy.

It was made by runouw.

even though the controls could be better.

Nice whataboutism, but that's not an argument.
>yeah my drawing sucks, but it looks better than 99% of child drawings, so it must be good

it's literally 99.9% of the indie games that are trying to ape 16 bit. I have no idea why they think messy pixelly edges were "an aesthetic" back then

Get a load of this “woke” s󠛡oynygger.

>ground blocks and floating blocks are a slightly different size, THIS GAME IS UNPLAYABLE

wtf this belly dancer is dancing

>it looks like shit
>dear nintendo can't even pixel art now and resorts to 3D renders
embarrasing.

>I thinks it looks like shit
nice arguments faggots.

the average normalfag still praise the game and thinks it looks better than most indies.

Na, a lot of fan stuff looks better than the original games. I'd argue that this doesn't, anyway, but other fanbases don't sperg out. It's not even like all Nintendofags, just the Mario-Zelda core.

Wario shake it is best Mario game.

We're talking about the game looking like shit. Stop trying to digress.

>the average normalfag
argumentum ad populum
How many times do I have to teach you this lesson?

>if normalfags like it that must mean it's good

by that logic nintendo's shit must be good too because normalfags also don't care about it

>If you're not part of my fanboy group, you're part of my imagined enemy fanboy group!
There's no such thing as nuance, there's no such thing as personal taste, the whole world is Us vs Them.

What's the name of this bidya?

you do realize scale is important in video games right? it's why you get garbage like collision issues

nigger, post 2D fangames of mario with original art and music, not recolored edited sprites.

the game looks good, and this is pretty subjective, so is an irrelevant argument.

The ground is a flat plane with a block texture. The size of the blocks is meaningless.

>ayo bruh, ninty be raycis’ n shit

Why the fuck do you keep hopping around and changing arguments? You say "it's popular so it's good" and I reply "no that's bullshit" and now you reply "oh well uhh it's better than most other fangames!!".

He's right. In all 2d mario games, there's a consistency with enemy and block hitbox sizes.

>It's the usual "draws fake screens but is actually terrible when applied as a game".
Not defending the "game" in any way but this is technically incorrect, the OP screenshot is from an actual working fan game.

youtube.com/watch?v=cxPjhgQXLXk

Attached: dims.gif (640x370, 1.29M)

the size of the blocks matter in relation to the player sprite, there's a reason these things tend to match the width of the player sprite

>muh hardwork
so now you're using that? without even refuting objective statements about gameplay design in relation to appearance?

really the only reason you seem to be hung up on this is probably because you supported this shit on patreon I am guessing

>dude fangames must meet my autistic quota for no reason
seethe more dumb retard.

>It looks like shit
>I don't like it
wow, nice arguments.

It's all subjective shit, get over it.
The game is technically playable and fun, so that's what really matters.

>objective statements
nothing is objective, is all matter of tastes.

No dummy, I'm calling YOU a fanboy dipshit.

Every indie pixel artist uses the same handful of palettes and treats tips like "use warm highlights and cool shadows" and "all sprites must have a lightsource, don't use pillow shading" and "never use single-color outlines" as hard rules that must never be broken, even though most retro games did.

Attached: DYgLXrsUQAEXcrZ.jpg (486x353, 36K)

that's even worse when you showed the goomba, the sprite clearly has a still hitbox but "muh character" makes it look like its wobbling, it wouldn't be much of a problem if it's big or meant to be far (like the first boss sprite of Metal Slug 3 that was posted above) but not there. And again, terrible jump sprite for hitbox.

You're fucking doing it again! You replied to me calling you out on changing arguments with "i-it's all subjective"! You couldn't hold an argument to save your life.

Nintendo, fire this man.

>seethe
there we go, now we know you're out of ammo
>quota
nah we call that general game design, fucking Atari games even have them
>nothing is object
el oh el, you must be a libtard

Yeah this is one of the major highlights of every fucking indie sprite game. Are they afraid of solid colors or something.

>tastes in art are objective
I bet you browse pol art threads.

>I'm allowed to express my opinion but you express your own I'll shriek "SUBJECTIVE, SUBJECTIIIIIIIVE!"
cretin

What are some GOOD fangames?

holy shit the jump sprite really bothers me,

>fist is on the right arm (so viewer's left)
>even though a player would normally follow to the side where the character is running, ergo must be on the left arm (so viewer's right)

this is really dumb

Yeah I agree with the criticism, I just wanted to point out the concept has an actual working prototype, regardless of how badly designed

I agree, while it can look good, it's also overly represented in the pixel art community, which makes it easy to discern whether something is old or is just trying to look old

Attached: 1541709635367.gif (512x512, 436K)

dumb animation

I am not even talking about subjective vs objective. Are you trying to prove me right?

>art
we're talking about sprite design as gameplay aspects you negroid, I'm sorry you only consume movie games that only require pressing buttons occasionally

>art is objective
nigger, this was disproven like 80 years ago.

again, personal choice of the developer.
again, subjective shit.

the only thing that matters is if people like it.

game design is a literal scam degree.

Yes, fuckhead. Exactly. So you can't fucking post your opinions and then bitch about someone else's being subjective. If you say "this looks ok", that's just as valid as me saying "this looks like shit", and screaming SUBJECTIVE doesn't mean a damn thing.

You're not even reading the posts that you're replying to, are you? Here, let's test it. If you read this post, reply with the word "orange".
I am not talking about subjectivity. I'm talking about you being a neanderthal who can't keep a straight argument.

user we're not talking about "game design", we're talking about shit that existed in the 70's and made successful games that manage to express fidelity and mechanics despite not having much in the way of graphics

>muh subjective
>muh people like it
so again by that logic all your spouting about nintendo is horse shit since after all, people buy those games

I feel like indies are overcompensating

how do u know these things you critique weren't concious decisions the developer made because he wanted?

the developer said he never played original marios but he just played a bunch of fangames to gain ideas.

maybe that's the real reason.

I dunno.

Alright folks, he didn't type orange. He's not even reading the posts.

As long as there are no mixels/rixels/zixels I don't care, it's a dying medium and I'll take what I can get

Attached: 1554733372958.png (140x90, 24K)

so he's a faggot

shut up faggot.

maybe, he said he didn't played the original marios.

he's also like 20, so it would be impossible for him to play the originals.

What are zixels? I totally agree on the first two though, those drive me up the wall.

you can literally play mario with any emulator while using settings that makes the visuals at least close to how they look like originally

>shut up faggot.
Shitposter is absolutely INCENSED that he got found out

Attached: problematic_pizza.gif (160x160, 502K)

Except the best 2D Mario and Mario game WAS made by Nintendo.

Attached: Super Mario Bros. 3.jpg (388x550, 38K)

>he's also like 20, so it would be impossible for him to play the originals.
What?

Attached: 4.jpg (630x418, 40K)

retro games are like 1910 car models, utter trash only nostalgia faggots like.

my nephew doesn't even like pixel art.

Like rixels but ones that rotate in the Z axis as well, I mainly see them used in particle effects

he would be like 10 years old in 2010.

I think its called Mario is Missing. It was made originally by a NG creator called Playshapes but I think they abandoned it and some enthusiasts perverts starting moding and expanding it. Good luck finding whatever it is because that's all I can tell you.

You can play a game from before you were born.

No one gives a fuck about your retarded piece of shit nephew.

there's been fuckloads of those, but the underlying engine issues and instability and kinda meh UI are still not fixed.
