All the Dark Souls games are overrated and none of them are above a 7/10.

Dark Souls is a decent game with a terrible second half and in general has a lot of terrible zones, such as the New Londo ruins and Tomb of the Giants. The game was clearly unfinished and rushed to launch.

Dark Souls 2 is a mishmashed piece of shit with nonsensical level design and it got downgraded so badly it actually looks worse than some PS2 games. It somehow managed to have worse combat and animations than Demons's Souls. The game is so badly designed that the only way that the developers could manage difficulty is to make the player character control really slow and clunky while also having almost every combat zone a gank fest. This game also probably has the worst bosses in the trilogy, DLC included.

Dark Souls 3 is full of nothing but wasted potential and despite having the smoothest combat, it has less general combat features than even 2 did and it's horrifically linear game design makes playing it really boring because the setting and plot aren't interesting enough on its own.

Tldr all overrated shit, only Demon's Souls and Bloodborne were good.

One of them is badly designed int he sense that the map isn't built around the player characters model (too small/thin hallways + holes everywhere and the shit camera doesn't help) and it's filled with gimmick enemies that constantly bug out. They attack through walls and the floor and can only be fought with a precious resource that isn't easy to obtain, get cursed, or by using a cursed weapon (which doesn't protect you from their attacks). The other one is a cave area next to a lava pit that it pitch black for no real reason and is filled with giant OHKO skeletons and is also filled with death pits. They're shit by definition.

I viewed it as a puzzle instead of an area. Besides, its fairly short, even if you can completely hard-lock yourself out of progressing if you go down there too early.

Crystal Caves is fine, I wish they did more with the invisible paths but I understand why they left it as short as it was to not upset less patient players

The crystal caves had one really severe issue with me. If you died to Seath, you had to go AAAAAALLLL the way back, fuck up all theclams(the most annoying enemy in the game) else THEY WILL JOIN THE BOSS FIGHT, and then try the boss again. This issue could have been fixed if they just had a shortcut down there that you could open up. Also, Seeths curse breath was pure cancer.

Not gonna lie, 2 is easily the weakest in terms of mechanics, lowering max health with each death was a bit of a pisser and you can tell they wanted to implement some stuff with lit torches and braziers but never got round to it.

1 is still the og best and let's be honest 3 is more or less just Dark Souls 1.5.

I really like 3 however, the level design is pretty much on point, love the combat and I think it's got the best optional area in terms of design and challenge (Archdragon).

In the first instance of the Crystal Cave fight, a fog wall doesn't appear. That allows the clams to join in if you ran past them. Doesn't apply to subsequent attempt sthough.

Even the weakest of these games is still a good game, i have played every "souls" game since DeS back in the day, and although some are objectively better than others, none is "bad"
They are all enjoyable, and OBJECTIVELY good games

If you think any of these games is "garbage" you have literally no idea of what a truly bad game really looks like
