That's a bummer, I was kind of interested in this mod when I first heard about it. That being said, I never gave money. Monthly patreon payments are a fucking scam, everyone should know this by now, the subscription model incentivizes people to take as long as possible to finish a product and further incentivizes never finishing a product at all. It's fine as long as you're careful about what you promise. Though this actually works best on Patreon as there's no product that you have to promise to release, just an inferred promise to work on the project while being funded.
Basically, as long as you deliver all of your Patreon goals to the people then you're good. This just means only promising to deliver stuff like progress updates and community accesses, shit that literally anyone can deliver with ease. If you do promise a game or access to a game then just make the lowest quality thing that could be counted as the game you promised, so be vague about the features and contents.
If you do all that then you're legally in the clear even if you clearly never had any intent of delivering a finished, high quality product.

You literally just wrote out the basis on which they would sue. Have you never heard of advance payment? Try dealing with a new company, most will want money before they even start on the project and that money is given on a good faith basis that you will deliver product.
The game was over once he promised to give something in exchange for money and then accepted that money. The contract is formed. Just because a lawyer didn't draft up an agreement, doesn't mean there was no contract.
All that's needed for a contract is an offer, an acceptance, and some form of consideration. The offer is on the patreon page, the acceptance is when the money is donated, and the money donated is the consideration. He literally has no defense and he's talking like a retard because he doesn't understand law and thinks he can just walk away because some retard like you told him so.
A requirement for the project creator to enter a binding legal contract promising to deliver the promised product that can only be voided by exceptional external circumstances would solve this issue.

You're still not getting it. If the claim is "credible", it's not up to a judge to prevent a credible case from going to trial. A grand jury is similar to this. In a civil case, a judge looks over the case and gives a simple yes/no if it can go forward. In a criminal case, a grand jury looks ove the case and gives a simple yes/no if it can go forward.

The skyrim together team doesn't really owe anyone anything since they've worked om this mod voluntarily for free for ages. Everyone in this thread is acting like it's been paid for the whole time, but these donations are actually recent as a result of closed beta being granted with a one dolar donation. So the skyrim together team provided evidence of the product working now all they have to do is finish it then put it in open beta.

I've gotten information about patreon users before. If you can't find their information by other means you file for a discovery request from patreon for the users information. Usually they comply pretty well.
