Tumblr Nose is a good look on characters like Wario since his theme and silhouette suit it. It's designed to look unpleasant. In games like Wind Waker, noses still match the colour scheme and shape of the character.
You can't just staple it on every character, it's just a lazy overcompensation for the inability to draw noses.

I loved the music but I thought the demo was completely uninteresting/unimpressive. The minigames are so bland that I felt that they were most like fillers than providing any substance to the experience.

That's what I dislike the most about them. It's the fear that it won't appeal to a large audience and only stay niche, so they need to fill it with something to get as many people as they can.

It means they don't have to game design and balance proper battles. I think its lame personally.

I think gimmick filled RPGs are just a design dead-end. If every battle is a series of gimmick rather than a puzzle then there's no real potential for progress or growth in the formula. A sequel will have nothing to branch or expand upon beyond story.

When you paint a face, you generally want to get a yellowish tone for the forehead a reddish tine for the nose cheeks and ears, and a more desaturated tone for the lower part where the mouth is.

The tumbler nose i think originates from this basic rule, but of course there can be good ways and bad ways to implement this rule.
