Maybe you should stop being gay
Samuel Thomas
>250,000
that's cute
Jose Perry
Moving goalpost up your ass is pretty gay desu
Logan Morris
Its an indie game which made back its money in one weekend. Get fucked, loser.
Gavin Russell
They paid 3 million for the exclusivity, I wonder if they factored that into the 8 million lolol
Elijah Sanders
Why would you compare AAA games from top studios which spent millions on marketing with cheap AA games
Asher Miller
>Risk of Rain
>AAA
Good bait you dumb fucking faggot.
Gabriel Brooks
I'm sure Risk of Rain 2 was advertised for free on Yea Forums.
Jayden Young
30 USD x 250k = 7.5 at most (with regional prices it should be much less)
what epic get : 900k
what epic paid for exclusivity : 3m
epic still needs 2.1m more to even get the exclusive fee back
LMAOO
Ryder Gomez
>people hating on a game they didn't even try because they didn't even install EGL
At least you won't have to deal with the crushing reality that WWZ is way more fun than L4D.
Sebastian Smith
reminder that chinks are taught that winning is everything
meaning they will cheat any way possible as long as they can win
aka "buying" their own copies and such
not like i care tho, i just pirate everything so no changes for me
John Stewart
Risk of Rain is made by some user in /vg/ kek

I got the L4D games for free cuck.

I think you'll find people are shitting on EGS not the game no one has played. No one gives a fuck about the game, hence why it only sold 250k despite being on a store with only a handful of games none of which are new.
Lincoln Robinson
One has to wonder, they were very elusive about any of their other exclusives only giving praise about how well they did with very obtuse language, if they really did well they would put out the numbers to prove to consumers and companies that things are going well and to help draw people in more.
Since they are not doing so, one can only assume the numbers are not that good and that they gain more from people not knowing how they are doing.
Jaxson Scott
Ben Steampiro's triggered by facts and logic, how ironic
Owen Thompson
2.5x a shit launch is still a pretty bad launch m8. Or are you not old enough to remember that shitshow of a game's launch where they sold a difficulty option separately.
Christopher Richardson
WWZ sold over 1 million across all platforms in the first week.
So what are you guys shitting on exactly? Epic Games, their Launcher or WWZ?
Easton Bennett
Why contain it?
Gavin Peterson
>250k on Epic Store

So where did the other 750k come from hmm?
Lucas Ortiz
they still need to pay taxes
Jason Roberts
>actual numbers for WWZ
>vague answer for Metro
LL's publisher THQ went under, got no marketing, and Redux sold MUCH better than LL. Comparing LL to Exodus with a vague answer makes it seem like Exodus sold like dogshit
Adam Foster
Didn't the satisfactory team tweet that their game sold 9 copies on launch day or something like that?
Robert Wilson
Customers will decide to will win, if they support epic then they will win.
Steam decreasing their cut or embracing exclusives won't change anything.
Wyatt Diaz

Zachary Perry
I wonder why this game sold like absolute trash at launch.
Gabriel Lee
Vermintide 2 sold twice as many copies in a week. WWZ could have sold millions since people love left 4 dead so much but nope. Now the game's online is dead.
Aaron Perry
Who knows. but if that 1 million is right then it sold like 3 times more on consoles
Gavin Parker
They were shitposting, multiple people stated in the comments that they bought the game.
Dominic Moore
Consoles, a place where indie games struggle to sell traditionally unless there is a ton of hype.

Epic is losing money on these deals they make. I'm genuinely curious how long they plan to do this. Aside from Borderlands, I don't see much games being able to break even.
Logan Sanders
But who will stand to stop the Chinese encroachment?
Thomas Torres
I had to write a review for a publication on WWZ. It's very mediocre. I'm not sure if they plan on doing more content but there a very small amount of content wrapped in uninspired gameplay. .
Levi Sullivan
They do that themselves
Christopher Cox
>It sold X times Y under condition Z!
With press like that, you just know they're ashamed of the actual raw numbers.
Logan Rodriguez
To be honest, the train's kind of leaving the station for Borderlands, it looks like BL2 so normies will see it as being old, and there are prettier and cheaper looter shooters out there that they can latch on to. The diehards will remain for sure, but most of those morons are console fags.
Don't look at the Steam user numbers too hard because the games go on sale all the fucking time and have been in a ton of bundles for dirt cheap which make it seem more popular than it otherwise is.
Ryan Clark
Last light? The original which sold like 20000 copies? No wonder they didn't give real numbers.
Samuel Bell
Hope you enjoy playing with epic bots, while I'm playing with my fellow l4dbros.
Christian Miller
> 2019.
> Pays for entertainment.
Ian Perry
It's called long-term planning.
Anthony Ramirez
Much more than your average 1 week release on steam. Of course you'll ignore all the steamdirect games but it's pretty horrifying to see that most games barely crack 1000 sales month 1.
Matthew Morgan
>but it's pretty horrifying to see that most games barely crack 1000 sales month 1
It's pretty encouraging to see that, because so much trash is released. It shows the free market works.
Carter Scott
Risk of Rain 2 literally dropped out of fucking nowhere.
Ian Reyes
It costs 20$ in us and 5$ in 3rd world countries moron
Easton Nelson
I made Risk Of Rain in my basement bro
Parker Bell
Right.
Joseph Reed
You guys should really stop giving epic shills replies. Sage goes in all fields
Juan Williams
And your game is selling for 10$ in most countires yet you give 30% to valve, oh and wwz on consoles too
Kayden Scott
yeah let's trust a shady megacorp that runs its own developers like slaves and directly pays publishers for exclusivity deals regardless of what the developer actually wants while touting the pro-developer flag
to be pro-developer in the long run.
It's not like valve hasn't had a lot of shady shit running like making money off of what was effectively legal all-ages gambling, paving the way for modern microtransactions as they are today, and them looking into making an actual real life desire sensor, but I still trust them over Epic, somehow. Sweeney's just that shady.
Christopher Perry
Thats it? Thats honestly fucking sad, why are they highlighting how little it sold? I was actually considering getting it since I liked Left 4 Dead but this sounds like it will be dead after the first month.
Camden Lopez
>only 1/4 of the overall sales

Colton Cooper
literally no one is dicussing any of those games, are we supposed to have an interest in them?
Nathaniel Ortiz
Americans are so hyper-divided that they'll split into two opposing camps over literally anything, even shitty video game stores. A dream come true for marketers, political spindoctors and intelligence agencies.
Jaxson Walker
Why would anyone shill for steam? Yes, everyone who works at epic should die for making fort nite, but that's not to say the people at steam shouldn't be fucking crucified right next to them.
Ethan Davis
I'm a millionaire, living the dream receiving admiration from my user peers for making quality video games.

Keep crying, Xiao. Your storefront can't even manage to sell nine games of a brand new game on it.
Steam's strength was never in the AAA games, it was the fact it had so many Indies on it. Granted, this eventually went overboard where fucking anything was allowed, but you need to have a good environment for them if you want your platform to be successful, otherwise people will just pick up latest AAA game and ignore it for everything else .

Game would've sold like shit on Steam too. The only way you get sales on Epic Games Store for now is if the customer's willingness to play the game beats out their aversion to using the Epic Store. If you can get customers to download the Epic launcher you've pretty much won and people will buy games on the Epic Store because it's already downloaded. When they get a sizable chunk of the normal game playing population then companies might start putting their games on Epic exclusively for FREE to get that 88% compared to 70.

Brandon Cox
>If you can get customers to download the Epic launcher
Everyone already has it, it’s required to play the most popular game on the planet.
Fuck, I’ve never touched Fortnite and even I have the Epic Launcher on my HDD because it’s required to use UE4 (which is still a great engine, Epic’s recent slide into anticonsumer dementia be damned). But even with the icon right there on my desktop next to Steam I’ve still never used it to acquire a single game.
The war of user attrition only exists in Sweeney’s head. This isn’t console hardware no matter how much he wants it to be.

why would you ever do that. are they trying to be hip and fit in?

It’s a joke with a kernel of truth. Obviously they’ve sold more than literally nine copies, but their last two games on Steam were both multi-million sellers and it’s pretty clear their shitposting is about their EGS exclusive selling a tiny fraction of that number.

Of course it's there, you brainless scumbag. "the Walking dead," all these fucking terrible movies and games. they didn't simply come from nowhere. It's not like any of the awful "zombie" shows are uniquely "good" like "sopranos" or "breaking bad." why, suddenly NOW, do you think everything is about a mindless horde of zombies destroying civilization? event he enemy in Game of Goys in a mindless horde of zombies who BROKE THROUGH THE WALL (the border). It's a jungian manifestation of what people are seeing in their real lives, they just can't say it aloud since we now like in USSR 2 police state.
All the fears of a time period express themselves in "art," if these shitty things can qualify as that. Go look at the grave designs from the times of plague in Europe and see what they reflect.

>you read into shit that isn't there
Here dumb fuck, here's a popular piece of european art from the time of plague. It's not just one thing, you can walk through one of the few very old cemeteries in europe and see when plague begins (at leas the initial outbreak when people still had time to bury their dead). The grave stones are decorated with skeletons and ghouls and all sorts of representations of death, since that was the collective fear on everyone's mind at the time.
Just like the 3rd world hordes destroying the West are now foremost in the mind of europeans and white americans-- even the "libshits" who are too trendy to admit it to themselves feel it deeply on a reptile-brain level when they begin seeing foreigners in full burkas walking around in the town they grew up in out of nowhere.

it's also funny how your verbal competence seems to just mirror the insults
Asher Torres
>there are prettier and cheaper looter shooters
Nope. Borderlands is in its own niche, amazingly enough. All the other looter shooters are persistently online and lean more heavily on the MMO genre than the singleplayer (with tight co-op) campaign. BL3 will sell millions purely because there's still nothing else like it on the market, somehow.
Dominic Parker
Holy shit, the tweet replies from that account are sad.
It's hilarious how Capcom released DMC5 and Biohazard REbirth 2 on Steam and had big successes there, meanwhile western indie shit goes to Epic due to "muh royalities" and eat dogshit in the meanwhile.
Really makes you think.
Owen Ward

I'm still not going to use it for games. I'm sorry that you have the brain of a fruitfly and the impulse control of a chainsmoking alcoholic and can't help but try to attention whore in threads you have zero investment in.
I hope you find some friends to dull the crippling loneliness in your life.
Gavin Rivera
>we’d see a resurgence in vampire movies whenever economic imbalance
How do "vampires" reflect "the elites?" The metaphor isn't clear enough. the metaphor of mindless 3rd world hordes destroying everything in their path and zombies is so fucking obvious it hits you in the face, it's even hidden other than the fact that the Jew show runners make most of then white.
Freud was a genuine Fraud, which was why Jung ended up turning against him. you can see Jun'd ideas all around you without even knowing it-- i.e., why are dragons found in every culture from china to england? They represent something very ancient that is embedded in the microchip of the more developed and higher Iq societies.
People born in the 1980s in the US have experienced the most "demographic change" in their lifetime of any people since the mongols invaded Russia. Think about that. more than the Aztecs, more than the Incas, more than any conquered people from the past 700 years. And the West never even overtly out a fucking war...
you don't think that's going to find its way into some form of expression, no matter how much the Jews try to censor it? if the fear wasn't real, every nation in europe wouldn't be trying everything they can't o censor the internet now.

Matthew Nguyen
Parasites who suck the life out of you? Elegant, foreign (in a continental way), typically presented as old-world, old-money and high-class, manipulative, dishonest, and you need to make the mistake of trusting them/inviting them in for them to get you?
And the problem with your overall theory is that your worldview (I presume, based on your attitude) lacks internal consistency. The reason first-world shores are flooded with immigrants and refugees is because The Elite are pushing this as a new normal, using media outlets, to try and encourage it, right? So how does it happen that the elite, who are intentionally pushing a narrative that idealizes immigrants, and who also make all the fucking movies, are making movies that reflect their subconscious fear of immigrants? This is why Jung is a hack, he presumes that there's some common undercurrent to all thought and that patterns of thought aren't isolated based on groups of people. The people who make the movies don't live in the same functional society and feel the same feelings as you and your neighbor.
Here's an alternate take: in a world increasingly concerned with avoiding pressing the Twitter Shitstorm Button, Zombies are an easy way to create an apolitical, inoffensive villain that can be established as such with minor writing or backstory. And, that unlike other monsters, is humanoid enough to be cheap to produce, and unlike aliens, is less frought with "improper" connotations. Zombies can be made on a cheap budget with no-talent, no-cost extras, are instantly recognizable as "bad guys" in a world where you can't just write in RAVs, and still look BROOTAL and COOL when you cut their heads off with an axe or shoot them with conventional guns.
Sebastian Fisher
>NOW

Isaiah Parker
This is all that matters really. These sales would already be sub-par if they were on the Steam install base so these sales aren't noteworthy at all. For reference, A Hat in Time sold twice this amount and it definitely didn't have comparable production costs
Easton Gomez
Exclusivity is not a competitive market since it encourages spending money on securing titles for the store instead of outperforming their competitors. It’s the same thing in streaming - there’s going to be 20 different services and people are subscribing to whichever has their favorite shows instead of choosing the best one. They don’t have to compete, and the consumer doesn’t get anything from it.
I’d love to give Steam a kick in the balls, but it’s gotta be because a store is better. Right now, Epic is objectively worse with less features, but you have to use it for exclusives. I don’t know why people would be happy about that unless they just hate steam that much.
Ayden Sanders
I can't even tell if these threads are made by unironic shills anymore.
Liam Davis
That just means the game still sells more on Steam than Epic because at least there's SOME incentive to buy the game there.

Aaron Richardson
>Epic is objectively worse with less features,
Steam having an exclusive monopoly was not good for anyone, although Epic is just as big a hard-on and now it's a duopoly, but I'm not shedding any tears over Steam losing a few shekels when they STILL want $40 for a COD game that's 12 years old...

Yeah, but that’s not the point. The point is that hints won’t get better for you and me. How’s steam going to compete? Make a better store? They already have one. They’re going to start getting their own exclusives, and the only thing that’ll change is that we’ll have yet another launcher to use for some games.
I don’t want a steam monopoly, but why weren’t people celebrating Uplay and Origin when they’re competition? Because they’re shit stores that you get alongside steam. And when you have to use all options instead of picking a select few, it’s not a competitive market. There’s no drive to improve, just to give consumers no option.

The problem is, what people want is for Steam to be better, but they don't want to stop using it. And if nobody stops using it, there won't be any incentive for it to be made better, apart from Gaben and co. being bored.
So you're caught between these two conflicting positions, where you want Steam to improve because you're basically glued to it with your 500+ game library, but at the same time, you're never gonna put any financial pressure on it because you're basically glued to it with your 500+ game library. Which is not to say that I'm happy with what EGS is doing, because fuck that mess of a store, but I do recognize the predicament I'm in as someone who is basically reliant on Steam for gaming at this point, since they have my entire hobby by the balls. I'm not walking away, I'm not splitting up my library, and that means Valve doesn't need to do anything to "earn" my business at this point.

Pretty much any price gets compared to the steam average, so i would say if not a full on price maker at least a huge influence on pricing especially with the huge cut they take.
>barriers to entry
You either do what steam says or your game will get way less exposure, just look at the threads people straight up refuse to buy from a different store and resort to piracy if its not on steam. So devs and companies have to do whatever steam says to let them in.
>donward sloping demand curve
not applicable here

Eh this is a mess anyway in the digital age. I would argue that its still aplicable to a degree, but not that big a deal with digital goods.
Henry Roberts
RoR had a dedicated fanbase but it was by no means massive, most people found the game because it has always been extremely cheap on the sales since it came out, the fact that it reached the point that it already surpassed the lifetime sales of the first one with just the buy one get one deal on release and no further sales is impressive

Steam does not have a monopoly
They do not decide the prices of games on their store, they are incredibly open to all kinds of games wanting to be on the market, and they allow games in their service to be sold wherever with no limitation
It is absurdly obvious that Epic is trying to throw their wallet around to force Steam out so they can get a monopoly on the PC market where games on their store must be bought on their store

It being the best doesn't make it great.
>The launcher itself is bloated and poorly performant (I don't mean feature-bloated, I mean the way it's coded is busted to bejesus and back). If I'm checking out a game I can open my browser, navigate to YouTube, search for the trailer and watch it before Steam finishes loading its embedded movie.
>Discovery tools for games are still not as robust as they should be, and given Steam's propensity for letting any old trash flood its virtual shelves (not that this is a bad thing on its own) they need to be better.
>Steam still sells games that are straight-up broken (Saints Row 2, looking at you), I don't mean bad or cheap, I mean borderline nonfunctional. That's a lack of quality control nobody should get away with; you don't have to act as censor or critic but making sure you sell functional products should at least have some importance.
>Tools should be better for informing users what sort of DRM or external shit is required to launch games. Ideally they'd push no DRM as GOG does, but failing that it should be abundantly clear when a game will force me to install UPlay, or runs Denuvo, or whatever else
>tracking patch notes and updates from devs on your games is a mess (though they've shown an incoming fix for this)
>the overlay is really sloppy
>Big Picture Mode being essential to access the controller rebinder interace is a mess. Actually all of BPM is a mess
Plus, there's stuff that I don't consider BAD for not being there, but I know they could do, a la Proton and the rebinder. Why not, say, native Steam-derived means of window control or scaling (like forcing Borderless Windowed mode with an external program)? Or Steam-communication with your GPU so you can make and manage game-external GPU settings directly per-game in Steam? I don't consider these features "essential" but they'd be nice and Valve could do them. They could do a lot to improve my gaming experience if they wanted.

That's how I feel like some of these games will go, but big games like Metro Exodus are probably going to make a big hubbub when they come to Steam to rack up more shekels.
I honestly have no sympathy for the majority of not just these publishers but also these developers. I could only see a few instances where the money Epic probably shelled out was worth the exclusivity, just so they wouldn't have to go bankrupt. But I see that as very few instances where it was actually deserved and not just because game publishing companies are interested in short-sighted investment as opposed to long-term opportunities.
So it pisses me off that they'll still get their money from Steam sales in the end, because it seems like very few people care about making a lesson out of backlashing against publishers/developers for literally selling out.
Austin Long
Valve is such a shitty company. If Gabe actually drew his wallet instead of sleeping on his hoards of cash they could bury Epic.

I don't like Ubisoft at all but why not just buy it on Uplay? You have to make a Uplay account either way.
Gabriel Smith
Not at all. I have no problem with the content available on Steam, as long as it's games (they can fuck right off with movies, music and productivity software, that shit is just clutter. I know now it can be disabled, and you can put in some effort to remove shit like Source SDK from your games list, but it really shouldn't take effort to accomplish that).
I just know that Steam could function better, and could be better for me and other consumers, if there was any real incentive for Gaben to make that happen. I think back to the shit with refunds, and how it took both a competitor offering refunds and some serious hot water with the EU for Valve to be compelled to do it. Refunds are now in-place and I'm glad for that, but that sort of change doesn't happen on its own. It happens because there's financial pressure on Valve to make it happen.
There needs to be more financial pressure on Valve to improve Steam, and there essentially isn't any right now. And what little does exist can't create real pressure when everyone on Steam (myself included) isn't prepared to give up Steam.

Logan Phillips
Odds are the people who were interested in the game will just wait for sales once they're out on Steam because there will be other newer games to play when they hit the store.
Evan Reed
steam made this happen by elbowing everyone out of their store if they wanted to monetize products without giving them a cut. if they weren't so greedy there wouldn't be a reason not to release a game on there
plus steam now has porn all over it some devs aren't going to want their product associated with that
Nicholas Rogers
that deal was only available for a day after release.
RoR is STILL in top 5 top sellers on steam right now
Austin Sanders
It's not about loyalty, it's about convenience. When you, as the producer of a product, try to strong-arm your consumer base into doing what is financially advantageous for you, instead of treating them with respect, they don't like it. Consumers aren't mad because they're "loyal" to steam on some spiritual level, they're mad because having to split their library across multiple applications is an inconvenience to them. And you, as a developer, don't get to inconvenience your players on purpose with selfish shit and then act surprised when they get mad at you.

>people who want a refund have to do it through some shady service that tries to weasel out of the situation
>developer's discord bans users who mention surefire ways to get the refund
It's not about being loyal to a store user, it's about having standards, I don't want to purchase a game from a developer that lied to its clients, doesn't have confidence in its own game, and that tries to cheat people out of their refunds
Blake Thompson
>What they really provide, other than an interface and keeping downloads secure?
Payment processing, dipshit. It's expensive.
Hell, I remember years ago, before EGS was a thing, an indie publisher who decided to sell their own games directly through their website while blathering loudly about how Steam is a ripoff, and then weeks later crying tiny tears about G2A being a "scam" and credit card chargebacks because they suddenly realized just how expensive it is to manage card payments and track the validity of sold keys.
Hell, even Epic just passes on their payment processing overhead to consumers by scaling up the price of games in regions where the payment processing cost is higher, rather than providing more attractive regional pricing.
Jose Perez
I prefer that to having to have two game libraries.
Jose Jones
You could always just pirate the game and then install it as a Steam Shortcut. It's still more convenient than booting UPlay in the background.
Nicholas Price
>Why would you buy an Ubisoft game?

You people haven't died out yet?
Kevin Perez
You underestimate how much the standard is for digital storefronts, aside from that steam provides downloads servers from multiple parts of the world, secure payment system, forums, user hubs, refund system handled by them, an API for multiplayer and many other things
>If it takes 30% its gonna drive up the price
Clearly not since games are still the same price on the EGS, greedy publishers as usual
Jacob Anderson
>record weekend

Is that even an argument? "I don't want the service offered to me to be improved, because..."? Why? What exactly is the argument against Steam being better?
Price competition is essentially a myth when it comes to everything but gasoline and gallons of milk.
Jaxon Roberts
>If Gabe actually drew his wallet instead of sleeping on his hoards of cash they could bury Epic.
Why bother? Epic's business strategy for the store isn't remotely sustainable in the long term, and they'd sooner go bankrupt than knock Steam out of the market. Valve doing absolutely nothing is the best response to this.
Jackson Fisher
>but if the creator is only getting,,what is it, 71% or something? obviously it's going to drive up the price
come on dude, COME THE FUCK ON, are you being serious?
go check any game that is available on steam and uplay and it has the same fucking price despite ubisoft taking all of the money from uplay, where's the cheaper price? there isn't any
same for origin, same for gog, same for epic fucking games store
the only cheaper price you can find is through fanatical, gmg and other authorized retailer and this is why people like fucking steam
Kevin Powell
Valve allows it because the forums are a free service provided to the developers. They aren't gonna tell the developers how to use them.
Evan Thomas
But user, epickeks having to use a Steam service to sort out their issues is fucking hilarious, I'm glad Valve enables this, now you can be smug about it
Bentley Morgan
The argument is that lolbertarians are retards.
You're the same people who said games going digital would result in lower prices, that paid online would mean a better service, and that bigger budgets would mean better games.
You're the retards who think throwing more money at something makes it better.
Jackson Campbell
Even if Steam didn't exist next week do you seriously think everyone will just collectively lower launch prices down? Do you not understand why that price point was set? News flash: Valve didn't come into the PC raising the sales cut, they lowered the standard in fact. Some retards are pushing this false narrative that they raised it to push EGS.
Noah Scott
what? I'm saying the opposite; I'm saying that the threat of losing money is what improves something. That the natural course of action for any company is to squeeze every penny out of everyone it can with minimal effort, and the only thing that puts a stop to it is when there's a stronger financial pressure for them to not do it. That the only reason for a company to improve a service is when money is walking AWAY, not when money is walking IN.
BTW, games going digital has absolutely resulted in lower prices overall. There would never have been such a thing as "it's a new release and it costs $14.99" in the age of physical media, now it's common for lower-budget or smaller-scale games.
Asher Perez
>literally using a no name indie Minecraft clone as an example
This reeks of burger fear and desperation
Michael Johnson
It's the only example available, EGS only has 5 games on it and 4 of them are free.
Elijah Walker
I don't pirate video games. Nothing against people who do I just don't want to do it myself.
Benjamin Watson
I mean Ubisoft do have to pay for Uplay, I wonder how much profit that works out to.
Grayson Roberts
For moral reasons or convenience reasons (or fear reasons)?
Brayden Gonzalez
>250k people scammed before word got out what a stinker the game is
Owen Powell
This is the second time they've cited "250,000 units", it's a weirdly specific number to use.
Are they actually counting the "guaranteed sales" that come with the exclusivity contract?
Benjamin Stewart
It's basically Factorio 3D and lot's of people were pretty hyped, but everyone just pirated the closed alpha and no one cared enough to fuck with Epic to get it once it actually went on sale.
Blake Lee
True guess i'll smug up
Jaxson Martinez
>This is the second time they've cited "250,000 units"
I thought this was the first time they showed actual sale numbers instead of going "w-we're doing g-great trust us". What other sales numbers have they mentioned?
Ryder Russell
Hello friends, can anybody link me to a game that got $15 price reduction thanks to the move from Steam to EGS?
Ayden Brooks
250k was the same number they gave for Metro Keksodus, wasn't it? Or am I conflating it with "2.5x"?
Elijah Anderson
They just want people on the service and get them used to buying shit on EGS.
The problem is that the EGS is such a bad service for gamers and has absolutely no features... and every day that passes makes the situation worse.
I can’t imagine anyone actually using it and preferring it to Steam for the times a game is on both. Maybe they’re hoping Fortnite kiddos just stay there long after they’re bored.
Samuel Phillips
If I'm being honest, a combination of all of those.
Ethan Bennett
Fortnite kiddies bought this game for skins probably lol
Liam White
Wow you really don't understand even like 20% of what that image said.
Dominic Jones
Convenience is the only good reason, unless you are tech-illiterate and are afraid of a miner being installed. The Copyright Strikes system was retired, there's nobody pursuing downloaders anymore.
Morally speaking, it's just a question of whether a company that disrespects your time and desire deserves to earn your money.
Jaxon Kelly
They said "x2.5" yes, but didn't specify what metric they were using for Metro's Steam sales (if it was launch sales only, or which edition of the game) because otherwise they wouldn't be able to spin it as a success.
Ian Harris
that user is right this is the first actual number they released, meaning everything else was even more disappointing
Carter Moore
Last Light was a literally who game that launched without fanfare. That series was super niche. Exodus is a big time AAA game with tons of hype, it would have sold really well on Steam. Hell, it DID, on the day they said they were going to pull it.
Zachary Watson
Still, I just have a feeling that these sales numbers include the guaranteed-exclusivity sales. After all, they're sales, right? They're sales to Epic, but they're still sales.
Jeremiah Smith
sure, operating a storefront requires money
but according to my epic friends here, 30% is insane and valve "literally" ripping poor devs off
so now big publishers have escaped valve's tyranny surely to god games will be cheaper.. oh whats that? they're not, in fact they're more expensive now that i have to pay in euros? shame
aaaah.. *sniffs* do you smell it user? the smell of competition
Connor Campbell
As of 1st of July in 2018 it had at least 1825993 owners. It may have been cheap, but it still sold really well.
Jason Barnes
I want to say you might be wrong because using the guaranteed sales as a metric is fucking retarded but I also noticed Sweeney goes around EGS related twitter threads leaving likes on whatever posts blindly defend his platform so I can only assume Sweeney and his PR department are trying to grasp for anything they can to save face. Let's not forget that Epic used twitch views as a metric for WWZ's success the other day
Aiden Walker
I mean, if you're Epic, and you're guaranteeing sales to developers, that's got to mean more than just the money, right? No developer/publisher wants their game to look like a failure. It's not just Epic's face on the line, they've got to talk other developers into playing this game, and nobody wants their game to look like a massive commercial flop.
If I was guaranteed sales, I'd want those to be "sales" in every sense of the word. I'd want to be able to report them at investor meetings and have them show up in press metrics. I want it to look like I sold copies.
