It gets a very good update for longevity tomorrow and next month is the big summer patch with all the new content

Ended up moving to XIV. The models are cuter and the transmog is great. Also housing is comfy as FUCK.

Been playing a fuck ton of ESO lately with a bunch of friends and honestly it’s the most fun I’ve had in an MMO since OG maple story.

They fixed a lot of the issues from release and there’s actually a fuck ton of fun content to do. I’m kinda a shitter but I made an Orc nightblade if anyone wants to add me @firelink-shrine

They've been overhauling basically every aspect to make progression less rng based.

In all seriousness, people mostly just decided which ones they like, and either the devs learned to sustain themselves on those numbers, or they didn't. You've got stuff like DDO that survives on parceled content purchases, stuff like Neverwinter that survives on lockbox money for better companions, mounts, and artifacts, and stuff like XIV and Warcraft that survive on sub fees, full-cost expansions, and purchasable additional services. Currently, I'm playing ESO, but I'm mostly just kicking my heels waiting for some new ones on the distant horizon, like Pantheon, Crowfall, and Camelot Unchained. That said, it's probably going to be a good long while before any of those make meaningful strides towards release.

old mmos were chatrooms with stuff to do on the side. everything took ages which was fine cause you werent in a rush to progress. the game was the game. you had to talk to people to do things since your guy wasnt a self sufficient master of everything.
now nobody fucking talks. yeah they talk in a discord or other outside object but nobody socializes in game in mmos. you dont talk to people or scam them in trades when auction houses exist.
