You download repacks if you have very shitty internet.

Free games

Pretty sure its supposed to do that unless someone can prove me wrong. Task manager is gathering literally everything running and all the properties.

It's almost as if uncompressing and decrypting stuff like this is very computer intensive. It's almost as if the point is for people with data limits or slow speed to still be able to torrent new games.

The point is to ruin your hardware mining for some faggot thirdworlder from Russia because you are too much of a poorfag to purchase your own damn games that you'll probably never finish.

Nothing is free in this world.

games do slow the pc down though
when they are running

As opposed to downloading the full release, which is somehow not free?

Have you ever considered that may be because you switched away from whatever you were doing that was actually taxing your CPU to just looking at your running tasks? It happens with games and even your browser. Also

Guys remember if your "system idle process" is anywhere higher than 80% you have been infected and your PC is almost exclusively being used for mining bitcoins. No one program should use that much CPU power constantly. You've been warned.

>normal installation is 3-5 minutes
>repack is 4 hours

Stuff that never happens.txt

I know this thread is memes and retards taking the bait, but is there actually a repacker that has at any point used bitcoin miners in their installers without disclosing that information? Obviously I'm not counting some randomly found torrent on some shitty torrent site, I mean from trusted sites.

Only an e-celeb poster would be this stupid.

no

why do people download repacks when there are perfectly fine scene releases?

>any other torrent
How many fucking releases do you think a game gets? There's the scene crack along with the game files, and then there are repacks.
Fitgirl repacks in no way "50%" smaller than other repacks, but are easily twice as as slow to install. Often they're not even half the size of the original release, even if you don't download all the languages.

Spot the redditor

Not an argument

I bet that if you think really hard you can come up with a reason.

BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD HAS FAST INTERNET,IF YOU HAVE FAST INTERNET THEN YOU CAN IGNORE THEM.

Honestly I always saw these "extremely packed" releases more of a challenge and fun for the people packing. They often use a program called Freearc and if you look into it there are forums and groups that discuss the most optimal ways of compression. It's kind of a hobby, which happens to benefit some people with slower internet connections or data caps too, but I'd hardly say it's an improvement for most people. Like, just leave your PC on overnight and you'll easily gain another 6-10 hours of download time and dodge the 4 hours install time. Or just like play tomorrow, man.

But yeah, pretty sure it's just their hobby to figure out the best ways to compress games the hardest, which will always come at the cost of more resources compressing/decompressing.

why is my steam client webhelper always 5-10% cpu usage?
is valve bitcoin mining?

Not that I know of. But there's always someone in these threads going "But Fitgirl has ADMITTED she puts bitcoin miners to support herself, look it up on her comments retard" without any evidence. Or the random guy who claims they have packed trojans pointing to some other retard on the comments who's freaking out over a false flag.

The thing though is that it sounds like a really good long term strategy. To become a scene group, run for a few years, gain people's trust, then one day start stealth packing these under the excuse of false positives. Do it on higher end games, especially ones that are very graphics demanding and you can ensure the people downloading them have decent video cards and use that instead of the CPU for mining. There'd be a scandal when it's found out and confirmed for sure, but what are they going to do? Call the police?

So I'm just surprised it hasn't happened yet.

To be fair the way Steam handles a lot of things can be questionable. Sometimes you look at a game on a store page and play a video, close the window for the store page but the video is still loaded and sometimes even playing on the background. Embedded elements like images or videos on chats can do the same. It feels more like all of Steam is moving into being one big web browser with embedded shit everywhere instead of a client so you should expect things like that to happen.

Imagine being a fucking leech holy shit. What do you gain from closing out the torrents so early?

That's task manager spiking it.. It isn't new.

But I know there are a few people who do benefit from this. I'm just saying I feel it's more of a person who enjoys doing this as a hobby and figured they could use their extreme data compression methods in an actual applicable situation to help a few others.

>I have never seeded in my life

Highest IQ poster in this thread

what's wrong with snipping tool

It's a bit complicated. It has to do with how computers now have a lot more RAM and they can afford to do that. On a very basic level it used to be fewer service hosts that handled a lot of things, but modern windows can afford to have a million little separate service hosts, so that if one of them fails and has to be restarted/shut down, it doesn't have to bring down the whole thing, only it's only specific service host. The price for this is more RAM to run each one individually and separately. (And also polluting your task manager)

Does that kinda make sense? The tl;dr is it's not a problem.

Bad news

Takes like 5 secs though
I generally have to crop them either way

>each dll has a svchost.exe

English (Simplified) speaker here and proud of it. Take your tea elsewhere.

Get ready to catch these hands

It's not just about capturing the image. An application like sharex is very customizable with more features. Part of it is also immediately uploading it online. So I can screencap something and have it ready to be linked within like 2 seconds. Or send a short video to someone if you set that up.

but its always at 5-10% even if i don't have steam store or chats opens

It's literally written in the EULA she installs a bitcoin miner along with the game. LEARN TO READ. SHE IS VERY TRANSPARENT ABOUT IT.

>Part of it is also immediately uploading it online
what? that's terrible

Incels at it again I suppose.

That's just windows update. Had it happen before and I don't pirate games.

Thanks /g/friend

Why? I'm not saying it gets uploaded to their servers, you can choose where to upload it to or not at all. It allows you to automate that one extra step, not that you are forced to.

yeah, I've got that hotkeyed, too.

Could be steam didn't close something properly. Maybe it just needs that to keep running something on steam that it's calling the Webhelper for some reason. For reference on my crappy laptop with an older CPU steam seems to take around 1-5% at all times even with every window closed. It's not that big of a deal though.

My share ratio used to be 5 or 6 until my isp got mad at me for uploading too much in 3 months

You know, another good reason to use some of these specific programs is you can bind keys to do specific tasks, like just cropping a specific window or a region. So you don't do what you just did and printscreen the whole screen revealing far too much stuff about yourself.

Paranoid about what? It can also just be used as a local screenshotting tool.

Try closing steam and check if there's still any unrelated Steam things running. Then start steam up again, close all windows and see how much it sits at idle while you are doing something else like being on this thread. Either way, no, Valve isn't "bitcoin mining" with your CPU. The usage is far too low for that.

Protip for the future, user: Just because the media has reported on something, does not mean it is suddenly a huge booming issue. The real issue is paranoid people like you acting like every other torrent has a bitcoin miner (specifically) and it's not even worth looking into anymore. I meant try seeing how it is after starting up Steam and closing everything not having ever chatted with anyone/looked at the store before closing everything and seeing the usage. But again, bottom line is it doesn't matter, it's just Steam being a bit wasteful with resources since it's not a big deal for modern CPUs.

I don't give a shit about what the lugenpresse has to say about bitcoin mining, bitcoin mining became widespread when bitcoin farms started affecting GPU prices
>The real issue is paranoid people like you
You should be insanely paranoid about downloading anything that contains an .exe file in current year

Attached: lul.jpg (175x57, 3K)

Your cpu likely clocks down when not under load, so 10% of low clock cpu is nothing

>You should be insanely paranoid about downloading anything that contains an .exe file in current year

Is that what the media told you? If you found out about half the shit that CAN happen related to computer security with that mindset you'd never use a computer again. Bitcoin mining, farms and cryptocurrencies are widespread, but as always it comes down to what you download and where from. If you are paying attention to what you are doing and know your way around you won't "randomly get" a Bitcoin miner. That only tells me you "randomly downloaded" a thing that you saw somewhere on TPB. Look at all the people in this thread saying they never got a virus, myself included, while pirating shit. Then think about how you are too afraid to even look at it and assume it's a minefield where there's just a random chance you'll get a miner installed on your PC.

You should never be insanely paranoid about anything just because it can happen, you should educate yourself on it. Otherwise you better unplug your computer right now because your PC is vulnerable in so many other worse ways.

as i said its always 5-10%

you really should turn that off before he grows lazy

>not using discord
Have sex, incel.

Why are you so worried anyways? Your original concern was if Valve was somehow using your resources for bitcoin mining (as if that kinda shit would fly under the radar and they don't have the resources to set their own bitcoin farms), they are not.

>I don't randomly download and I haven't had any malware for years, I don't use an anti-virus because it's a placebo at best

>Anti-viruses are placebo at best

Are you serious? Maybe shitty antiviruses, but something like malwarebytes exists precisely so that even if you tried to run some of these bitcoin miners you are so afraid of for no reason, it'd automatically block it. I understand where you are coming from that you SHOULD be distrustful of things since in truth, some of those "false positives" could indeed be obfuscated trojans, but you are afraid of all of it, not even willing to look at any of it and ignoring all the people who successfully download so much every day. I don't believe someone who says "I'm plenty educated" and "antiviruses are placebos". Common sense is indeed the best anti-virus at the end of the day, but cordoning yourself away from all piracy forever because "it might be bad" is definitely someone who has gotten a hold of you through scare tactics.

>I don't randomly download and I haven't had any malware for years
Neither do I. Or anyone with a brain, which is why we haven't gotten viruses. What it sounds like is that you don't download at all because all .exe's could be evil.

Repacks are meant for people with data caps or slow internet. But retards download them anyway and complain because they want to be spoonfed updates and dlc all in a single download.
It's hilarious when a new game drops and you see fags saying they're gonna "wait for fitgirl".

What pisses me off is that most of them exploit Windows' update system, and yet Microsoft thought it'd be a good idea to make it impossible to turn off updates. They force their users to keep a massive backdoor available for malicious shit.

becuase they put all the dlc and update and most of the shit you need to run the game it was intended to run with out having to worry about having to download every single fucking patch and update for a game

and saving space to add more games on the hard drive to have.

Getting information about resources being used from every program running on the PC at once is pretty taxing for a CPU. That's where the sudden spike comes from.

Wasn't the real one around 3 MB?

that still means more games i can get saved on the har d drive though i do wish wish the runtimes where included instead of having to download them online so u could use these without a internet connection

Kind of unrelated but I absolutely loathe Unity games because they heat up my CPU to the point of throttling. Doubly so if I can't reduce the window size to mitigate the effect.

fitgirl is 100% safe and TPB is not. also it's just 1 click install and you can play games in the background if you dont own a pentium 2. ez huh?

Is Torrentleech good? They seem to give out keys like candy.

>TPB is not
Whats VPN whats living in a country where your isp didnt give two shits about you.

are you retarded? I mean TPB has shitty virus uploads from time to time. goddamn mongoloid. I dont give 2 shits about my IP when pirating because I live in the netherlands.

why the fuck would I ever want to upload a screenshot to anything else but Yea Forums? fucking zoomer imgur users no one cares about your screencaps

>shitty virus uploads from time to time
Maybe check the shit you are downloading?

ik download mijn shijt van TPB voor jaren en heb nooit een probleem gehad, homo

Imagine still using windows 10 even after we fully know what a cancerous dumpster fire it is

Dutch is an absolutely retarded language, Jesus. It's like an english speaker had a stroke while pretending to speak German.

Zeg makker, you're not wrong.

>2019
>trying to make the malware process blend in
>not just hiding it all together
the absolute state of malware developers

>trying this hard
Here's a (You), OP.

yes and?
ever unzip a file dipshit? Now take that file and make it 40 gb. I mean it's probably mining coin too, but given that I still run the game at a faster framerate than a denuvo cuck I'm fine with it.

>Have like, 2 terabytes of random porn and images I save
>Never review or use any of it

Fuck how do I solve digital hoarding.

Only had this computer for about 3 months though

je moeder is een retarded language

>My computer when I download 5 games off nicoblog

ineenkrimpend en blauwgepild

>0,15
HAHAHAHA Look at this seeder.

Use that old porn. I had the same problem, but there's just no way to jackoff to it all.
I took a few thousand images and set them to my desktop, and just slideshow a new one every 5 minutes

>start game
>cmd prompt flashes on the desktop

Je moeder is dik

It's either that or you can't play games

The ability to delete the useless installers that take up HDD space

>It's like an english speaker had a stroke while pretending to speak German.
But how can that be if english speakers literally cannot speak duch properly to save their lives?

Its doesn't shrink it that much. The biggest carve in data size comes from having language audio packs as optional downloads.

It's unpacking a compressed file, retards

Give it a couple more months/years

Dutch is the language of gods. No wonder inferior murrifats can't grasp any of it.

>last windows update was causing PC to stall and crash, I had to reinstall the OS

That's not the reason. It doesn't isolate anything and in the case of an uncatched error, it would shut down the whole tree anyway. What it's there for is because Windows can more efficiently delegate priorities between multiple tasks, than if a developer actually invested the time into coding a multiple thread solution. That's why svchost.exe for example isn't a singular .exe anymore in windows 10, but rather multiple copies running different services. It's just how developers have adapted to how much more resources we have currently available. It's also why browsers use the GPU and VRAM as well to offload tasks. That means you can spend more time on new things and features, than wasting time on optimizing.

t. software engineer

waarom moeite doen met stomme exes verwisselen en kijken of je MISSCHIEN een virus download wanneer je alles gewoon in 2 klikjes kan krijgen via fitgirl repacks? Domme homo's.

Yeah you said that.

A lot of malware is named that so people don't get suspicious.

ik weet niet wat fitgirl is maar the naam klinkt homo dus ik ga het niet opzoeken

>being a monolingual retard
murrifat schooling everyone

I'm pretty sure the only schools that teach dutch are those in the netherlands.

Welcome to the botnet

Is W10 as bad as everyone says it is?

Just install a bitcoin mining blocker into your browser and/or PC.

>open task manager
>web browser with 3 tabs is using 8GB of RAM

you underestimate how quickly that sort of shit would be noticed, and how immediately it'd kill any interest in that group.

As soon as bitcoin mining was detected (and it's easilly fucking detected) all the trust goes down the toilet forever. They'd make more cash accepting bitcoin donations for providing their service than the window they'd get to mine shit using other peoples pc's for the window of one game release they'd get to do it for.

>if only there was a way to check for all that shit that runs during startup
weren't mustards supposed to be smart or something?

I'm pretty sure the only schools that teach highschool shootings are based in the usa.

What game?

why are you so aggressive?
have sex, dude

>literally my browser with 2 Yea Forums tabs and steam open

What's a repack?

>CPU jumps to 100%
>Smack the top of tower
>Down to 5%
Love this old piece of shit, I'm not upgrading until it takes the long sleep

Okay, spread those legs bb

>imagine being so brain-addled you can only respond in memes and lame whataboutisms when confronted with your empty culture.

>have sex, dude
how?

50 GB game installers compressed down to 2 GB so third worlders can download them. To compensate, they take hours to install instead of minutes as it rebuilds the 50 GB it needs. Sometimes people hide bitcoin miners in them because they know people will have to leave them installing for hours.

A compressed game.
If you have low internet speed or data cap is a blessing.

Yes

My man

It's also a really easy way to get older games with all cracked updates prepatched.
Also a very convenient way to have your browser homepage redirector to ru_games.tk

only somewhat related, but ive torrented hundreds of games and gotten no viruses. ironically, i try to pirate microsoft excel and get a major virus that was a pain in the ass to get rid of

Funny thing about that, gamers aren't the target of most of this shit because we're more likely than anyone to notice something eating system resources like a starving landwhale, someone who wants to pirate Excel though, might just make the perfect mark for joining the botnet.

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKK legit same, after using fitgirl repack of metro exodus i get a fucking cmd prompt pop up every time i turn on my PC, HEEEEEEELP BROS
