A few things but i do agree with you that if someone doesn't enjoy raiding then they shoudln't do it.
However, it doesn't take that much time. A lot of people buy into that meme but it's only true for the tippy top autists. It's once a week which is hardly dick breaking, and figuring out how to farm gold for your class is a rite of passage that even someone who only pvp'd would need to pass.
Beyond that, you're a little mistaken since some of the gear lasts forever and the tiers should be fairly long. This is a positive in terms of the gear not being redundant, but a negative potentially as well since i could see burn out be a real thing just like in live.
Third, you're over stating how buff a rogue is in shit gear, and if you're implying he should grind honor instead then that's an even bigger timesink than raiding/farming consumes/rep combined. 1.12 is 1.12, world of roguecraft is very out dated for classic. Rogues are still great but the dude isn't going to be 100-0'ing anyone with a grey dagger.

I haven't been following this shit, I kind of thought Classic was a meme - are people really that excited?
I guess it makes a certain amount of sense considering how terrible BFA is, but I don't think I could ever go back.
To me, the only thing vanilla really did better than retail is open world difficulty - most quest mobs are tuned for 2-3 players, so you have a strong incentive to group up with randoms, goof off, and make friends.
It definitely provides an appealing social experience, but what about the gameplay and mechanics?
Even if you're planning to avoid the comprehensive databases, guides, and resources, you can't escape gameplay experience.
The raids only held up because everyone was ignorant and inexperienced. Even back then you could finish most bosses with 25/40 people being clueless carries.
I know not everyone stuck with the game, but I've been playing on and off for 15 years now. I can tank high level mythic+ while talking shit with friends and watching a movie at the same time - and I'm not even that good. It's all just muscle memory at this point.

Both can farm well. Mage needs more gear investment, as a mage main let me tell you something. Do not invest into spell power gear while leveling. It’s a noobtrap and waste of gold. Int/Stam or int/spirit are your friends.

Don’t blow all your mana on a single mob, use your wand when the enemy is low and/or running away. Fire blast is only for tagging in extremely populated areas. Never rank Frost nova up.

I think that covers the noob traps for mages. Oh don’t learn amp magic or dampen magic. Keep your wand up to date too.

Both can farm, mage is an easier time farming due to free water & ports. But I expect a metric assload of mages doing exactly that at the typical spots.

but even in heal spec with little pre-bis a druid can aoe farm the elementals in felwood for great money, then you can just TP moonglade and fly back.

Druid also can do the typical gold farms other classes can. Lashers felt the easiest on dru, Mara Princess extremely safe and easy kill, etc.

Yeah. To start, it isn't going to be vanilla servers. Blizzard is too cheap to make vanilla-like servers, so they'll instead just mod the current servers to run something similar to vanilla. You'll get the new client, you'll get the new server functionality, nothing will be the same. You'll probably even get the same shards that shit themselves if more than ten people engage in combat at the same place out in the world.
I wouldn't be surprised if private servers didn't provide a closer "vanilla experience" than people will get out of classic re-release.

No complete UI will ever be good. They lose all the flexibility of individual addons targetting specific parts of the UI (they have more time to add more options) and they also lose all the performance gain from having specialized addons that actually know the fuck they're doing.
There are some addons that touch everything without being shit, but those are usually not all that impressive (like MiirGUI).

If you use any knowledge of WoW you've used since vanilla, you aren't getting the vanilla experience.

Taht's a solid spot to grind, there are a few other wolf spots that are great. I've leveled two paladins spending a bunch of time there, plus you get a fuckload of meat for cooking in addition to the quest. Kebabs, i think.
I'm a big fan of supplemental grinding alongside questing anyhow but at the time it was pretty necessary due to fuckhuge server leveling pack.

There's a webguide for the horde portion atm and 1-13 alliance and it's better than vanillaguide alliance 1-13 portion, although there isn't even much room for improvement at those lowbie levels. Thanks. I like it. I've leveled over a dozen characters to 60 over the last few years on blizzlike private servers so I know what I'm getting myself into. The thing I'm most hopeful for is that I never again have to reroll because the server I was playing on died because of some bullshit like getting a Cease & Desist or someone who donated $2k to server costs charging back their donation and getting the server shut down for lack of payment.

Hunters are top tier for farming (mage might be slightly better, not sure), and great in PvP. You're right about PvE, though, but most guilds aren't as autistic about raid composition as people make them sound. I played hunter in real vanilla and my guild was the #1 horde guild on my server. We had 5-6 hunters at any given time including me and I was asked to sit out of maybe 1 raid a month.

I played WoW since 2005, and I was only very young when I started. I managed to level one character to 60, an Orc Warrior. I don't know how I managed to do it. Runescape was the only other MMORPG I had played, and when I started playing WoW, I was a clicker, didn't know what quests were, or how to play well. But I liked the game so much I didn't give up. I got every class to like level 10-15 before I settled on a Warrior. I initially was a Tauren Warrior, and got to level 22ish, but I didn't like that they were too big, so I changed to Orc. At the time, I didn't know about racials or anything like that. Most of my gameplay from 1-60 was just killing monsters my level over and over. I remember it took me far longer than the normal player to hit 60. I used no addons or help/guides.,

14 years later, and have played WoW for so long I know everything about the game and how to play it properly now. But in Vanilla, I was the definition of a "newbie". I have watched the private vanilla servers rise and fall, but I've never played on them. I signed the petition Mark Kern made, with my original character name.

I look forward to playing classic again 13 years later with the knowledge of the game I have now,

I'm really not worried about escaping the pack if I can nail 1-10. Playing a Warlock so as soon as I get my voidwalker, I have no excuse not to be one of the fastest levelers. It took me about 2 hrs and 15 minutes to get to 10.5, so I'm confident that I can get sub 2hrs if I fix getting fucked by murlocs. Also got killed by Defias in Northshire once because I was testing out if I could tank two level 4 mobs at level 4. People practicing on servers like Northdale are in for a rude surprise when they realize how much harder mobs actually hit in the low level zones.

Wands scale with two things. Talents and %dmg increase debuffs, aka curses and improved shadowbolt.

The game went from "Long World Adventure through 60 levels nad then end game which was a whole new thing" to "Short Adventure of 10 levels with focus PURELY on end-game content".

Vanilla leveling is half the "fun" of Classic, whereas Current is just a pushover you get out of the way as quick as you can to get to the meat and potatoes of the game, which is the end-game grind.

Theres also big design differences in both, regarding dungeons, questing and overall experience.
Vanilla questing has you traveling all over the world, whereas Retail has you going from HUB to HUB and follow a linear "story" of the zone.
Also Dungeons in Vanilla were more fleshed out and intrincate compared to what they have today, they actually can be called dungeons since they are not linear and you can deviate from the main path while also including quests, extra bosses, rare spawns and sometimes even HUBs inside, Blackrock Depths is the crown jewel of vanilla dungeons nothing in current even comes close to it.

I've played classic but it's very hard to remember details from so many years ago. I have a feeling things will actually be EASIER on live just because other people are cutting down mobs too so those cave quests etc would go by a lot faster. I find playing melee classes is fairly tough, warlock and hunter are piss easy as always naturally.

If you're going for realm first then obviously that point is kind of moot as there won't be people helping with mobs in your zone.

Ideally you want to find a guild that has their own server so you can focus purely on perfecting the leveling route. If you have the time to poopsock, the most important part is getting ahead of the pack is the race from 1-10, where there will be sharding.

Ret Aura does fuckall damage/threat, Holy Shield drains your mana almost as badly as Consecration does, shield spike is even worse than Ret Aura since it doesn't get RF threat bonus, and if you use SoR instead of SoW for threat you're 100% drinking after every pull

Runelite user here, this post is correct. The addon community is strong and they even made new addons for private vanilla servers. Classic addons are going to be not just encouraged but forced for any kind of serious progression.

In a BG setting you'll be dispelled a lot. Sure, if you just wpvp it's quite good but I'd almost always go for more consistent specs that don't get crippled by a single dispel. You lose out on a lot of talents by grabbing SL, but you're obviously free to do whatever you want.
