Orchestrated music, you can revert game back to DQIII style graphics and battle display, and you can live with another character outside of CRIKEY. Dunno if there is anything else.

Yoshi P's philosphy towards FFXIV is the make a game that you don't feel like you need to log into every day, and that it's okay to take breaks to play other games.

Imagine if the other games you go play was a second MMO that your company also happens to publish.
Any sub down time from FFXIV would then go into sub time for DQX. It would actually create a perfect storm of subscriptions, since most dedicated fans would just jump back and fourth between one and the other. Especially if they started doing more cross over events to get everyone interested in both games. Hell, they could go the extra mile and offer discounts on sub costs if you're subbed to both at once. Even if it were only something like 2 dollars off each sub.

The best DQ games are III, V and VIII prior to XI. XI is very solid itself but it can easily be summarized as fan service the game as its has tons of references, especially to the former of those three DQ games. it's never too late.

You have to admit holding the orchestra soundtrack back for the Switch version is pretty shit considering everyone complained about the lack of it the moment they announced a midi soundtrack.

I enjoyed it a lot, but I fear how long it'll take me this time. At the time I got the PS4 version, I was doing work that came and went, and I had a couple weeks of no work with which I used to destroy DQ XI. Now I've got regular work all the time.

I’d personally say start with the first and go from there but if you don’t want to do that I strongly recommend starting at DQ5, Ideally the DS version for extra content.

Terrible writing which I picked up on even 9 years ago, but was just more pronounced now, uninteresting dungeon design (better than basically every Tales game we've gotten since then though), and cutscenes up the fucking ass. I still had fun in boss fights at least.

In terms of the series, it was at its strongest between Phantasia through Vespeira. After that it kind of fell apart. Xillia 1/2, Graces, Zesteria, and Beseria all were lacking in areas. Though I do have a soft spot for Graces and Beseria, the former had terrible writing and the latter had bad world/dungeon design.

They're subscription games not sales games. If the population thins by a certain amount you're going to see even more losses simply in reaction to losing people. As in, dungeon queue times and sense of community dies off, so since you lost 30% of your customers (to yourself) you lose another 20% to disinterest from the lack of community that you suffered with the initial 30% loss. And that 20% doesn't come back. And it isn't a one-time loss.

Moving is doesn't do anything. I don't know why it's a feature but I guess you can run around in battle if you get bored or something.

I played with harder monsters and levelcap on. Sylvando is your first possible multi healer. He also has a number of moves that can help you stall for time, which is pretty useful with harder monsters on.
