For the same reason I don't play fighting games now, because I have no one to play them with. The true fun of fighting games was when you got to school your opponent, this is why they remain the literal only thing keeping the last 5 arcades in the entire planet afloat, the idea of showing up and schooling motherfuckers with a quarter.

Instead we get horseshit online code and if your opponent gets too butthurt from smack talk he'll just report you and you get to enjoy your ban instead of playing the game. I might get it in a few years when they re-release it with all the DLC, but it's pretty hard to convince me to buy a new fighting game when I know I'm just going to go back to GG a few months into playing it anyway. On top of that, SamSho looks a lot more fun to me, I dislike the look of the fatal blows a lot in MK11, so I feel like if I do buy a new fighting game this year I'll just go for SamSho instead. I do think the designs are generally okay in MK11 though for what's that worth, none of them really stand out to me as anything special, but the girls in MK have always been completely forgettable to me so they're not really a downgrade right now.

The reason I learned to play Mortal Kombat is so I can consistently beat up kasual fighting game players. Almost everyone that plays this game plays it poorly and you can impress people just by putting in a months work into the game. After you learn the game it does grow on you a little, but there are better fighters out there. It is my least favorite fighter, but it is not kompletly trash or broken. Its a fighting game with a huge audience so as a fighting game player its your duty to show people up in who don't play the genre often. If the game was not so popular in the mainstream I would have not touched it, but the game play is fun once you get the hang of it. Some of the Animations are extremely ugly, Fatalities are boring after 2 days, the Krypt is a kompletly retarded idea "so is playing dress up in a fighting game". The game has so many players that it would be weird not to at least learn it at a base level
