Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

Behold gentlemen, I present to you a game that does 3D Zelda better than Zelda, and also came out a whole year before Ocarina of Time. Why, it even has a jump button! Why have you not played it?

but I have played it.

I played and finished it without even understanding a single word as a child.

Based and Tosapilled.

I don't like playing games from the series, where most games are untranslated. Maybe someday i will play it

Attached: 1519331030393.gif (410x312, 1.34M)

Actually an AMAZING fucking game. Now I wanna play it again.

>not adventure

Great Adventure was 2D platforming

yes and its infinitely better than mystical ninja

I wouldn't say it's better than OoT but it's my favourite game due to nostalgia

Why not both?

>Doesn't emulate well
>Nintendo don't put it on the VC
>Konami forgets Goemon exists

IT'S NOT FAIR

The music in this game was so fucking good

The camera is the only thing I have gripes with. Other than that: great game

The soundtrack in this game is pure fire

Prior to this game I hadn't really explored an ethnically japanese game, so everything was incredibly foreign to me. Fuck that game was different, and cool as crap. It's my favorite Goemon game, but it gets very little recognition. Not sure why

Ask yourself if this is a top 100 of all time game, and then ask why people would consider OoT higher in the list.

/thread

false, this post is the true /thread

but user, i have played it
a lot of people here probably have, it's a popular cult game

do you think you're on reddit or something?

DASH DASH DASH

I asked that question in self-reflection but without posting an answer of my own I wanted to address people more specifically. If you ask why a game is more popular than another (why it lands on top x of all time lists) then ask yourself why one game gets in while your favorite is ignored.

youtube.com/watch?v=jIoMvYSYfWw
Just beat it recently. Great music, great atmosphere, great gameplay. Wish you could control the camera, but I made do without it.

>Ask yourself if this is a top 100 of all time game, and then ask why people would consider OoT higher in the list.
It's absolutely a top 100 game, I'd probably go as far as to put it in my top 10. Ocarina was fucking dogshit. Mystical Ninja was about as linear as OoT was, but did it way better. """People""" consider OoT higher on the list because a) OoT was more prolific, and b) it had the Zelda brand name behind it, which is more well known in non-JP regions than Goemon.

>Wish you could control the camera
Hold R and press the C buttons, boss.

I recently played it on Mupen64Plus and it seemed fine to me, though I haven't played it on the original hardware in over a decade

Mupen64Plus with GLideN64 runs it properly.

That's the only emulator that can, and GLideN64 is the only visual plugin that can. It used so many hacks and wonky shits to make itself function, most approximations of the N64 architecture collapse under the weight of its nonsense when emulating it.

>still have my copy
Better fucking times.

>That one silver fortune doll that you can only get by jumping off the main road, swimming for a while, wandering out to a red torii gate, walking through it, getting teleported to an isolated rock in the middle of nowhere, and climbing to the top.

As I recall GGA had a lot of shit like this too. Shit that felt to me, as a kid, like the stupidest shit ever. I loved it.

Has anybody made/found any good custom Goemon smash stages yet?

The true Impact combo

Played it several times and beat it twice. Still consider it better than ocarina. The music in this series is really under appreciated. Koji Kondo music by comparison feels infantile.

I don't remember the buttons but I can see the moves in my head. There's the chain pull, yatatata punch and big energy beam.

The SNES game was waaay better.

Post Yae

This. Its a shame that most people will never play the snes games since 3 of them are still japanese only.

>3 of them are still japanese only
I poured so many hours into Ganbare Goemon 2 3 and 4 on emulator. The second is still my favorite out of the four.

What part of the game is this from?

Don’t forget the punt after the oraoraora

I think it was from staying at the inn at the snow town

It's just the INN animation

I M P A C T ! ! !

Ah, I don't think I used a single inn when I played it a few months ago.

I want to do things to Yae.

The best ones by a LARGE margin are the fully translated N64 games. You're missing out on some real gems.

This is precisely why we in America have the right to bear arms.

Well, Goemon 2, 3 and the first PS1 game are all god tier and none of them are translated, but good point regardless. Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu is basically the Symphony of the Night of Goemon.

2 is great for couch co-op and a greatly improved upon the first game. 3 feels like link to the past. 4 is kind of a mix of 2 and 3.

the graphics and music seems pretty comfy
but is the game actually gud or not

Based OP
This is hands down my favorite N64 game, I rented it when I was a kid and enjoyed it. Then I got to the Impact battle and it blew my fucking mind.
Eventually got my own copy and played it many times, even once beat the whole game in one session due to not having a memory card

Played it on release.

It's nothing like zelda, and you are retarded.

Attached: 52533986_p3_master1200.jpg (656x1000, 368K)

it's a coop game and I didn't have brothers or friends.

Assmad OOTfag can't accept that Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon came first and is the superior Zelda game

Only the sequel is co-op and that one is a side scrolling platformer. And it's not like you need to play that one co-op for the full experience.

Define "Zelda game"

Shame the US versions removed some of the more risque humor (Wise Man trading his services to the Peach Mountain Gang for muscle car magazines instead of a bunny girl poster and girly mags, etc).

The EUR releases were more faithful though, as I understand it.

I guess I have one of the early prints then, because wiseman giving them MECHA for tiddy is absolutely in my versions and goemon gets pissed the fuck off over it

>motherfucking Goemon thread
I'M PROUD OF YA BOYS
Gonna play through the second SNES Goemon soon I heard that's been fan translated now.

>He's famous for getting caught, being clumsy and dying like a bitch.
Actually, he's famous for being honorable and holding his son over his head while they were being boiled alive, to the point where the executioners spared his son due to his father's honor.

Huh, I didn’t know US releases got that content. I have a standard ROM rip I downloaded and it’s Muscle Car, same as the cart I played.

I must be confusing this game with the one made for snes. I think you used a pipe as a weapon?

I still have the cart, if I can be assed sometime I'll replay it for old times sake after looking at differences in prints and TL's, might be fun can bust another nut to mermaid yae just like old times too

youtu.be/GvfFIfbEHHI?t=162
Relistening to this, did he just say "ORE WA FUCKING"?

That’s all of them.

The N64 had 2 games; Mystical Ninja was a fully 3D adventure game that is remniscient of (though it predates) OoT. Goemon’s Great Adventure is a 2.5D sidescrolling platformer with full-3D towns.

Both have Goemon with a pipe and chain pipe, Ebisu with a hammer, Sasuke with Kunai, and Yae with a Katana and bazooka and mermaid magic.

Gorgeous.

ORE WA GORGEOUS EHH IMPACT

It’s badly translated to “the best” as I recall.

Actually click the timestamped link I posted.

That's GREAT

Oh.

“Funky”

I always thought that too man

>no examples of gameplay or anything not surface-level
>BONUS: "It's really japanese, not like those baka gajin games!"

I knew Yea Forums was hipster-central, but damn.

That and all the surprisingly decent lewds/porn leads me to conclude this is the N64 version of Sonic the Hedgehog (parents bought inferior ripoff of good game, 24 years later child is STILL trying to convince himself that it was somehow SOOOO MUCH BETTER than that MAINSTREAM GARBAGE)

now somebody go on to explain how Quest64 was ACKSHUALLY the best turn-based RPG ever made, but only 250+ IQ can understand why.

It's a very understandable mistake.

Play the game and you'll understand, it's legit one of the N64's best titles.

Except that Quest 64 is undeniably a total pile of shit by any measure. You can at least make the argument that you prefer the atmosphere of Goemon over OoT, because they're extremely similar games.

WHY? Why is it better than Oot? What does it do better?!!
You're not convincing anyone if you just say "it's just better"!!

Goemon's Great Adventure was better, and was the greatest Goemon game of all time.Mystical Ninja is second best.

Great music, some good pacing, likeable characters and some really good dungeons.
If you liked Zelda OoT you would most likely like this game.

Sasuke was the only playable card out of the Goemon team. IIRC, we was actually a big piece of tech 15 years ago.

This

The soundtrack was this ridiculous combination of Japanese classical/folk music and late-70s US funk music, I’ve never heard anything like it before or since. It’s Japan’s equivalent of the Banjo-Kazooie soundtrack

I think it's "funky"

So 1 to 10, how ganbare is this game?

Read the thread, you halfwit.

I want a Goemon remake so we can get a resurgence of Yae art.

It's GORGEOUS.

They've long since made the 4 core members. Unfortunately, they were mediocre at best then, and shit by today's standards, even when teched into a Ninja deck.

Zelda oot is really overrated

Best dungeon in the game coming through admittedly the music to this place is among the few things I can remember off the top of my head! On a side note I didn't realize there was three song per dungeon when I first played this. Does the game just cycle through them or is it determined by your location within the place?

Attached: 1535971330633.jpg (640x640, 98K)

A Goemon game with Bayonetta/Ninja Gaiden combat but still a silly adventure title. Juggling silly little popgun-shooting robots with a pipe. I always wanted to see the synthesis of early N64 collectathon-platformer-adventure titles and crazy action combat, and Mystical Ninja would be a perfect home.

It’s progress-based in every dungeon. Crossing a certain threshold queues the next segment when the current segment loops.

The music builds as you progress in each dungeon, pretty much beginning, middle and end music.

Just play the game fucking retard. Or alternatively just kill yourself.

Pardon my ignorance, but didn't they attempt something similar to that with the PS2 game? Hell has anyone here dared to try it?

Attached: gfs_19689_2_2.jpg (720x480, 36K)

Fuck I love this goddamn game. And as mentioned the music is absolutely based. Thanks for the nostalgia, anons.

I always saw this game in Blockbuster and never ended up renting it. Early 3D game covers have such a cool aesthetic, I just always went with safer choices.
I did play it later emulated and liked it.

Attached: 1507429111908.gif (491x704, 3.22M)

Not an argument.

so memelords like can eat shit about muh generic midi

Damn I haven't played it in a long time and I'm not even sure how I got my hands on it in the first place (probably a rental) but it really is just a legit fun game. Saying its better than OOT is personal preference since they are pretty different. It's a lot of fun though. It's worth checking out for sure.

That game is actually good though. I own it. Only problem is that the bosses are way too hard for how easy the levels are.
That game is REALLY fucking good but a clusterfuck to play if you don't know Japanese. Sucks the localization was canned.

Great dungeon but Submarine Castle is not only my favorite dungeon, it's one of my favorite things in all of video games. That entire second half of the game is fucking magical as far as atmosphere goes.

Attached: Mutsu_Shoreline_-_01.jpg (606x339, 17K)

I was really looking forward to it when I saw a gaming magazine talk about it. Then it just never appeared on a shelf. I wish I did know Japanese so I could at least play it on emulator, but I don't want a repeat of my experience with Ganbare 4 which boiled down to running around aimlessly until I find the one person that progresses the plot.

Played this about a year or two ago. Had a lot of fun but I got stuck near the end, just didn't have some item or something I needed to progress somewhere.

I think the festival town was as far as I got. That was a neat location.

Kind of want to go back to it but if I play goemon again it'll probably be the other 64 game just for something different.

I think I remember riding a giant dragon to fast travel? That's a cool way to fast travel.

I am the world record holder for beating this game more times than anyone else in this entire world, for from the age of 6 I started playing it and from the age of 13-26 I have beaten this game at least 1000 or more times, as many years I have beaten this game every single day. Literally every single day for years upon years.

It is easily the best game on the N64, and the music...my God the music...it is brilliant.

You needed to get a cucumber from the kappa. To do that, you had to go outside Zazen town and get Sasuke's high jump ability, then go back and find the priest's son and buy one form him for 800 ryo.

I only just played the game for the first time recently. I liked it a lot but wish it where longer. I feel like you don't really get to play with the toys it gives you all that much.

I rented this game so many fucking times and I would always get stuck at a certain part of the game. It's before reaching the snow area/town of the game.
I don't remember what exactly I had to do but it would always filter my dumb ass. Still didn't stop me from renting it over and over because I loved the game.

Attached: 1514423884019.png (560x530, 176K)

That's almost certainly what I had to do, cause I know I never did that. That's a pretty roundabout way to progress but such is the case with some games.

Yeah captcha sucks, fuck google for making us program their stupid self driving cars

I just reinstalled loonix on this laptop yesterday so i ain't even installed 4chanX yet. Google captcha is just that shit.

>I rented this game so many fucking times and I would always get stuck at a certain part of the game. It's before reaching the snow area/town of the game.
>I don't remember what exactly I had to do but it would always filter my dumb ass. Still didn't stop me from renting it over and over because I loved the game.
That sucks because that's literally where my favorite part of the game starts.

When in doubt, ask the fortune teller.

I lived in Sullivan Missouri most of my childhood. From birth to 4 I was in Oshkosh Wisconsin, then we moved to the middle of a fucking forest in Missouri. I had nothing other than my house, elementary school, and a small rental shop. Surprisingly when we went to the city, my mom found me Mystical Ninja Goemon. She first beat it, and I was very surprised and shocked of what the game was. She kept telling me "look! the characters are japanese just like your dad!" then after she beat it, she said "now you can beat it." As a kid, I only got to the big kabuki robot boss and then beat him every day. I got bored after I beat him then turned off the game. We lost the saving pack for the N64 so I never could save my progress.
Then time passed, and I played that game every single day. For years I learned of the game, and beat it every single freaking day. We would go to church and I would play the game in my head. We would go eat and then I'd come back to it. I was obsessed with its music, and I couldn't stop thinking of how beautiful a world of Goemon's would be. Beyond only this, I knew nothing of Japanese culture. I inserted myself into the game, and in such a little forest of Missouri, I enjoyed what I could make of it. Then later enjoyed Gex, Mario, clayfighter, blast corps, perfect dark...but my master holy game was Goemon.

Jesus Christ, no one gives a single solitary shit. Either post Guiness proof that you hold this record (which I don't even think exists) or fuck off forever.

I played it. It was garbage compared to the SNES games

All great.
Being 11 at the time i found it at a rental shop. I still have a copy of it somewhere in the attic.

Picked quite the gem to obsess over. Glad to hear this game means as much to someone else as it does to me.

It is the facet of which holds my heart to this day, user. I am so happy to come to this thread after getting married today.

The opening song, from the same singer of DragonBall Z, is sofull of energy.
The whole game is so full of energy, bright, cheerful, just as I was as a kid...

..when did that ended, and I became this bitter person? Now I want Goemon on Smash Bros.

OoT is both way too short, and a game that drags on for way too long. I dunno how to put it. Also, i don't see how this game is "way too short." My buddy came down recently and clocked over 16 hours into his save before finishing it.

Ok thanks for actually answering with reason!

No, it's your excessive use of exclamations (!) and ellipses (...). You type like a fucking child, and it shows.

Quest 64 isn't as bad as peeps make it out to be, it has a number of problems, but it's got some cool mechanics going on.

No, Quest 64 is exactly as bad as everyone makes it out to be, and you simply have no fucking standards.

Quest 64 is literally Hyperdimension Neptunia without cute anime girls, and people worship it around here. Get your nose out of your ass and you'll smell some real shit.

oh calm down, god forbid someone try something new

>Quest 64 is literally Hyperdimension Neptunia
Oh, so it's pure fucking shit? Glad we both came to the same conclusion.

It absolutely fucking blows my mind that shills think that everyone here is a Nep fan simply because this is an anime website. This is perfect evidence of how they will never, in a million fucking years, consensus crack here.

I rented this game a bunch but I never got further than the festival town either

great game

Quite common, seeing as Blockbuster was the only reason this game saw a stateside release in the first place.

You have literally no proof of this.
