I don't actually know shit, but from what I would guess now isn't about making money, it's about gathering useful supplies that no one will bother farming for once 5.0 come out.
That or scan for low offer housing items.

Yeah it's mainly for hunts, maps, marketboards, and visiting other players. Can't snipe gathering spots or sell anything on other worlds
