I struggle to find a game from the 80s that I would call my favourite. I mean, I like a lot of them, but a lot of those late NES games that I REALLY like are from the early 90s, actually.
Picking Megaman 2 would be kinda dumb, because I already have Megaman 4 on the list (which is the better game anyway), so I guess I'll go with Zelda 1.

Yeah I loved GoldenEye. GTA V seems like a natural choice - I like GTA a lot and it's the most impressive GTA game to date by a significant margin. Isn't GTA V one of the most expensive games ever made too? It shows - the detail and breadth of that game is mind-blowing.

There's usually pretty little room for discussion since chances are you'd reply to people you agree with. Naturally, a reply that just consists of "mah nigga" or another generic "i share your taste" comment doesn't provoke a response and, thus, fails to create a dialogue.
This is why inflammatory b8 threads get so many replies. More people will reply to disagree with something than to agree with it.

Not every game slated for this year has been released yet, user. I can't rightly say whether or not some masterpiece is just waiting to be released in the latter half of this year.

It's there for reasons different than SMT. STM is my favorite Turn-Based JRPG and my favorite non-VN game lore-wise. I put Rising because it's my favorite Action game of the 10's (inb4 Soul's fag angry at me) and the memes.

I thought the campaign of V was pretty great.

>they literally lied to us with the trailer
How so? I watched the early trailer the other day (think it was released in 2011, two years before the game itself), and I was thinking how the final game looks much better. Unlike a game like Anthem, where they bungled together a trailer, then cut loads of stuff for the final game because they didn't have time to finish it all. So yeah I'm not sure what you're referring to.

>Maybe the online was good, but I never tried it.
I liked the V online. I only have it on 360 so I haven't played the later updates (they stopped doing updates for the old consoles in 2015 I think), so like I haven't done the drug empire stuff. I played the custom game modes a lot though, like assault courses that people had made, where one team has to navigate it, while the other team drives cars into them to knock them off.

>VC and SA
Those were great games at the time, I loved them and completed both when they came out, but I haven't been back and played them in so long - while I did actually go back to replay V's campaign relatively recently. I just think IV and V are such a leap forward that I think I'd rather replay them really. Maybe I will replay VC and SA at some point though. Also I did actually play some of III relatively recently, I feel like that game doesn't get enough love, even though it is the first 3D GTA, the first blockbuster one.

The game came out in '87 and was something completely new. The only widely popular side scrolling platformer until then was Super Mario. CV literally paved the way for platformers which weren't just about jumping on enemies.

No it wasn't. It's entirely mistaken to attribute any kind of innovation to this. Games like Rush'n'attack and ghosts and goblins came out prior to it and are both better games

I know it sucks because I had a nintendo in the 80s and played the games when they came out. CV was always last place. It was worse than literally damn near everything else.

How to detect a casual refusing to get gud. Classicvanias combination between ''heavy'' controls and it's level design is flawless.

what other reason is there to like castlevania, go ahead and inform me

rng enemy patterns? intentionally bad controls? slow clunky gameplay?

its hilarious that none of you uphold ghosts and goblins because you cant beat it since its like 2x as hard as castlevania

>improve my skills at 30 year old games
you can have that, skill and difficulty in video games is about multiplayer to real people who aren't autistic.

nethack is not remotely from the 80s.

the controls aren't heavy, they're bad.

its.

as a kid i was a massive fan of all things horror and also a christian so the idea i could throw holy water at frankenstein was tight as fuck not to mention the music was an absolute banger

> nethack is not remotely from the 80s.

>NetHack is a single-player roguelike video game originally released in 1987 with ASCII graphics. It is a descendant of an earlier game called Hack, which is a clone of Rogue.

You should improve your skills at a 30 year old game, better than making excuses and bitching like a casual on Yea Forums about a 30 year old game.

that's valid.

The original release of Nethack is a direct clone of Hack. It didn't "become" nethack until like 1991.

Not comparable, gameplay is entirely based around studying jumps, you don't do action at the same time as needing to jump whatsoever

Congrats, fixed jumping is so good that in all of history a few games have used it, while *every other fucking game* went away from it because it's garbage that people with taste hate

most of you like castlevania because you were told to like it here, and you wear it as some kind of badge of honor, you haven't even beaten ninja gaiden and you don't play multiplayer. get actually good.

Yep, that's a butthurt casual who can't handle actually challenging games. Figures you'd name drop a game with built in cheats and micro levels so retards (you) could beat it. The fact you think that game of all titles is challenging says it all really.

It's unclear if I should list what I now believe are the best games from each decade, or what I was actually playing most back then. I'm going with the former.

80s: wasn't alive, pass.
90s: singleplayer Half Life, Unreal or Thief, I barely finished older singleplayer games; multiplayer Quake 3
00s: singleplayer the 3D GTA games on PS2/Xbox or SKATE; multiplayer Battlefield Bad Company 2 (or 1 on consoles)
10s: SP nothing good has come out; MP early Tribes Ascend maybe, newer Battlefields and Quakes have failed to surpass the classics.

The 00s marked a slow decline with some diamonds in the rough (like Dark Messiah, Crysis, games that pioneered some really neat stuff but fell short as complete packages). The 10s are chaotic stagnation, a decade of remixes and rehashes with no objective progress except in graphics. AI and physics have not improved since the late 00s. optimization and netcode have literally declined since Quake 3. following this medium is depressing now and I'm missing a reason to be optimistic about the near future. maybe video games are taking a break so I can take a break from them and start my career.
