Why was Kingdom Hearts 3 so ill received ? I finally got around to playing it and I really enjoyed it. Is it because Im not a DIE HARD fan? I've played all the others and it felt just like them.

Stopped reading there
You stopped reading there because it was literally the last sentence of the post
Kingdom Hearts in general just has a very large hatebase on Yea Forums that simply want to shit on it. The major consensus is most people liked it with some complaints.
>Stopped reading there
Stopped reading here
>No FF characters
>Epitome of wacky plot with mediocre OCs
>Only emotionally paid off if you went down the non-numbered game rabbit hole
>Less keyblades than other games
>Disappointingly small Twilight Town
>Too easy, literally more AP than you can allocate
>Painfully bad BH6 world
>Not revisiting worlds
The only thing that was actually better than KH2 was the gummi ship part but that's not really why anybody play this series.
The writing is atrocious, the disney worlds were the worst by far (barring retreads from other games), some of the finesse of the gameplay from kh2 is lost and the pacing is horrible, most of the plot progression is jammed into a sprint at the last minute
It really boils down to the fact that it was such a long wait and what we got was a rushed, mediocre game.
No, it's not bad, but it didn't live up to anyone's expectations who was around to play the first two on release.
KH4 when?
Spbp
Not for a while. We already know there will be a non-numbered title between 3 and 4 and the rest of this year for dlc. So maybe 2 years to make each with 2022 and 2024 for KH4.
>I'll recieved
Huh? It was voted by gamers as GotM for January 2019 and is the highest selling game of the series.
Somebody get this faggot off the internet.
Barry is SEETHING from the dlc announcement i see
>GOTM
more like flavor of the month
He's gonna work overtime these days desu.
Its actually good compared to the other games , most kingdom hearts games are MEH at best
Reminder that birth by sleep is the worst kingdom hearts game
Yes, worse than dream drop distance
Yes, worse than recoded
The fucking slow ass unresponsive gameplay is fucking trash
>Command deck
>Press triangle to wait for a long ass animation to end
Yeah I know DDD had command deck too but it was worse in birth by sleep
I kind of have to agree with this. BBS felt so stiff to control and the camera sucked with it being way too close to the characters and spazzing out a lot. Only Kingdom Hearts game where after finishing the main story I didn't bother with any of the extra content, unless you also count 0.2 but that was basically a tech demo anyways
>gamers
Unironically kill yourself
Gameplay wise it was not finished, hence critical mode being released today
Story wise, hardcore fans didn't get enough service (major story only happening at the end, no Ventus and Roxas interaction, Xion return unexplained, no revelations about Lauriam, fuck all screen time for a few xehanorts) but was as a whole the ending did not make sense for casual fans.
where the fuck is the patch
Command Deck isn't even that awful of a mechanic for a portable game, the issue is that BBS's commands all blew shit, randomly rooted you to the ground because they didn't want to make air animations, and everything was designed with super long animations which made every enemy kick your ass. DDD's command deck is really snappy and responsive with a bunch of viable options (though unfortunately Balloon overshadows most of them).
Tomorrow, jap patch notes are out though.
DDD command deck is absolute dogshit too. Only Recoded got it right
It's a fucking PSP game. Have you ever held one of those? Have you seen how tiny the analog stick is? I haven't played the 2.5 version but if they barely changed the controls then no wonder it plays badly.
Yes they didn't change the controls for shit when it went on to the PS3 for 2.5 so there is no excuse anymore. It's a dogshit game. Had the worst gameplay out of any kingdom hearts game.
Story wasn't as bad a ddd but it was the begging of the end with all the convoluted shit. Kh2 had a absolute perfect ending series should've ended there
I wouldn't say it was ill-received, Yea Forums is not a good metric of overall consensus by any means.
For me personally, I got a lot of fun out of it, and there's a ton of good moments, but (like so many Square-Enix games) I think the game is a victim of its development cycle. Some worlds are great and some are blatantly unfinished. Sora is far too overpowered and enemies can't even hope to keep up (was also a problem in KH2 but KH3 made it worse). The game is overall too easy and you never need to make use of mechanics like cooking or Links. Most of the game barely advances the plot at all and then the final few hours have a long string of character pay-offs. etc
I think a Final Mix could make the game great but it would take a lot of work. As it exists now the game is just decent. I will be playing it again in Critical Mode so we'll see how much that changes.
>Only emotionally paid off if you went down the non-numbered game rabbit hole
Lies, everything in the graveyard was downright insulting for fans who played all the games.
terrible writing and osaka gameplay
We'll get DLC this year, then maybe the obvious Switch spinoff announced in 2020, then they'll port Story so Far to PS5, then a year later KH4 will come to the PS5.
I suspect about 3-4 years.
I just read a long-ass fan theory last night about how Kingdom Hearts 3 never actually left the Sleeping Realms from Dream Drop Distance and that the 2.9 card wasn't just Nomura being cheeky, but a clue that Kingdom Hearts 3 wasn't actually Kingdom Hearts 3.
I thought he liked KH?
Iam a die hard fan and i loved every minute of kh3
Because it was a relatively large and ridiculously hyped-up title, this is Yea Forums, and most shitters here are under the illusion that vulnerability is weakness and they can't be genuine about shit so therefore they must shitpost and be contrarian to no end since that actually gets them attention.
The game is fucking alright. It certainly doesn't live up to expectations, but on its own it's an alright experience. Won't stop people from grabbing Metacritic numbers and endlessly shouting how anything below a 90 is "OH NO NO NO NO"-tier bad and screeching one of like five copypasted one to two word comebacks like a bunch of predictable faggots. Fucking Game of The Century could come out tomorrow and there'd be nonstop threads complaining about stupid shit and calling it "FLOP, BLUNDER, MUH TORTANIC!" Literally no better than shitty clickbaiting journalists, self-awareness notwithstanding.
Congratulations, we've all read it, it's still retarded bullshit written by literal homosexuals.
Nothing else decent come out that month.
>and is the highest selling game of the series.
That more has to do with the how long people had waited for the next mainline game rather than the game's actual quality
Nigger tounge my anus
t. one of the faggots who wrote that stupidity
Fuck anyone who played Dream Drop Distance.
I played it. Got a problem fag?
This but regarding 358/2 Days.
Nostalgiafags can't appreciate new things. KH3 was the best KH game since KH2.
>half the game is pointless filler
>keyblade graveyard is rushed
>less keyblades than every other title
To be fair, the game was never going to live up to the 10+ years of hype no matter what. It still felt like a massive waste of time, and this is coming from someone who played all the side games. Even BBS had the decency to wait until the end to spit in my face and tell me that all my world-hopping was for nothing.
...
The biggest problem I saw with it was that in the end, it had no original story to tell. The entire game consisted of trying to wrap up loose ends brought on by every other game in the series. This game was not made because the people involved had passion, rather a sense of obligation.
And 2 only existed to tie up the loose ends left in CoM, stop being so negative.
It has most of the pitfalls of the other games coupled with a bloated cast and the single most amount of plot threads any game of the series has had. KH has never had the best pacing but older games usually only juggled a handful of villains and side characters by the end. The final area of III has 13 villains, the resolution to Xehanort, the rescuing of all of the missing characters, last minute explanations...just a ton of shit that had to be implemented in a totally mediocre fashion to fit the flawed story structure. Don't even get me started on the combat.
It also seems like they had an odd composer distribution, the shittiest guy ended up handling the big boss themes.
Well, that's one game compared to about, what six?
My biggest problem was that there were no Final Fantasy characters in this Disney/Final Fantasy crossover.
>The daily KH3 complaining thread
Look, it's like put it. Really nothing else to add.
>any kh game being worse than days.
>the single most amount of plot threads any game of the series has had.
"Save your friends" and "Fight a war" are the only plot threads in 3. That's par for the course of every game except CoM, BBS, and Coded.
>KH1
Find your friends and stop the darkness
>KH 2
Find your friends and stop the Organization
>DDD
Earn the mark of mastery and get punked by Xehanort
I quite liked it. Looking forward to giving Critical a go when it drops in around 11 hours IIRC. Unfortunately due to the numerous characters and plot points introduced in the four games preceeding it, it hurt the narrative a little since it had so much to wrap up. But now that that's all done hopefully they'll learn to keep things neater moving forward.
I'd say the pacing was what made it I'll recieved. There was no middle act like many kh games. The middle act usually means you return to the OC world for OC plot reasons. It can be small like in DDD but also could be as big as KH2. But KH3 only had the worst 100 acre wood in the series for its middle act. Also we didn't get enough time with the organization members. That can be explained by there being over 13 of them when there were only 8 in KH2. Still a solid game though and I enjoyed the boss fights at the end
Not really, the only real "loose ends" left after Days and BBS are that Xion, Ven, Aqua, and Terra existed and needed to be saved. 3 was really only launching off of DDD and still couldn't come up with anything satisfying.
This
>lying to himself this hard
LMAO
All ecelebs shit on it and it has the worst Metacritic score out of any mainline KH game, stay delusional you fucking retard,
It's a shell of its former glory and people were expecting kh2fm.
Instead we got shit cutscenes, lackluster worlds and shit gameplay.
I played it but I regretted it. After 10 hours I just rushed it to finish Shit game with even shittier mechanics.
I didn't have a problem with it gameplay-wise, but playing through the same story 3 and a half times was fucking bullshit. Beating Mysterious Figure was fun though, hardest than any soulsborne boss.
Don't forget the mobile game and 358/2 days if Xion is involved. And Chain of Memories if Namine was involved. And you forgot Roxas.
>the mobile game
Worthless for now. Anything necessary for 3 was in Back Cover, and even then the epilogue was just setup for 4.
>And Chain of Memories if Namine was involved. And you forgot Roxas
Because we're talking about the games released between 2 and 3, idiot, follow the conversation.
I could recontextualize every game like that if I wanted. If you want to view that way then I guess the way to put it would be: single most amount of individual needs that had to be met by the end of the plot. Saving Riku and Kairi in 1 meant going to Hollow Bastion. Saving the BBS trio meant dealing with the consequences of their games which lead to three separate scenarios that Sora has to contend with (Aqua in dark realm, Ventus in the castle, Terra as a heartless). To make this work the Square would've had to actually properly space these things out so they aren't rushed or put in a contrivance to bring them all together, such as have the villains find Ven and Aqua ahead of time (imo sounds boring). What we got were all of these events mashed into one another like the world's greasiest, shit sandwich.
>KH1 Finale: Save two friends, fight two villains
>KH2 Finale: Save one friend, find one friend, fight main villain and three flunkies
>KH3 Finale: Save all of your friends, fight 13 villains
They're all the same, 3 just tipped over the critical point where you can get all of this done in ~5 hours.
>ecelebs
>metacritic
except this is just cope.
3 suffers not because number of villains but because the story doesn't officially start until the game is over. Nothing matters until you do KBG Rematch, but the game spends no time to tell you that your efforts are bullheaded and vain.
The theme of all disney worlds in 3 is aspects of love between Sora and his plot device waifu, but they are not framed in such a aay that make this apparent to the average player.
The RoD/CO/LoD is not framed asa hell, but as a place where everyone's collective IQ gets shut down to 0. Riku knows rod but cant handle a mass of shadows? spare me the idiocy. All of LoD was rushed stupidity.
Power of Waking was poorly explained dem that had no presence at all. why do mickey and riku know what the fuck it is but never stop sora and explajb to hin how ti use itmb
thebm kbg act 1 shows everyone jobbing out od oehere cuz they dobt havw ant ibformatiob exfept aqua kbows that twrra is evil terra not the good one so shw just refused to full thw ceww in? what the fucj
also none of the gillains matterwe
>There was no middle act like many kh games
You mean only BBS and KH2? Rest of the games had a similar structur to KH3
>Nothing else decent come out that month.
>RE2R
>Ace Combat 7
Yikes.
>The theme of all disney worlds in 3 is aspects of love between Sora and his plot device waifu
Frozen was explicitly about Elsa being analogous to Riku, and Rapunzel was a Sora expy, they point this right out in dialogue.
it's not a bad game but this could have been so much more considering Nomura had thirteen years and two whole console Generations to do it.
Mmm, no.
>thebm kbg act 1 shows everyone jobbing out od oehere cuz they dobt havw ant ibformatiob exfept aqua kbows that twrra is evil terra not the good one so shw just refused to full thw ceww in? what the fucj
Are you ok?
I agree with you btw. The number of characters crammed in, the poor finale pacing, power of waking being dumb, etc. 3's story sucks from a multitude of factors.
>critical mode halves your MP
Aw shit, here we go again.
This. It shouldn’t be as lackluster as it is, but I guess quality is a meme.
Do we know if we have to beat the game to unlock this games critical mode? Just bought the game again today since I recently got a PS4.
I love it, it's my GOTY.
WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS FUN? WHAT ASSHOLE DO I HAVE TO STRANGLE FOR THIS BULLSHIT?
I can't wait for this whole series to be on steam
We don't know.
Why does this series have such little porn and no doujins?
Fear of Disney lawyers.
Fujoshits.
If that were the case there'd be no Disney princess porn.
I played it just for the TWEWY gang.
>and no doujins?
You sure about that?
At least DDD had an entertaining plot. KH3 had nothing.
He means good doujins. I.E. not ones made for fags.
Learn English.
>Is it because Im not a DIE HARD fan?
Probably. As a die hard fan i can confirm it is the biggest disappointment i ever had in gaming
That's not an ESL I think he had a legitimate rage stroke.
DIE HARD fan here
3 > 2 > 1
>DIE HARD fan here
Prove it.
>Incredibly big expectations after 10+ years of waiting
>underwhelming plot, even though it's supposed to be the big finale
>too easy
>too little extra content, only one extra boss
>no final fantasy characters
Fuck off, Die Hard 1 was the best. Then 3, then 2.
>Then 3, then 2.
You're no fucking better than he is.
Die Hard 2 was just okay. Deal with it.
>not ones made for fags.
I enjoy the wholesome non-h ones most of all.
Okay, I see where you went with that, I mistakenly saw a period after "die hard" and thought you were calling him that ironically.
WHENS CRITICAL MODE AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH
I'm not into die hard. What do people think of the movies after 3?
