I think they get better chances at dropping good loot, and anything they kill adds their experience x2 to itself, so it's good to level them for xp at the very least

These things are a weird combination of fun and annoying. I kind of like trying to get one to level up, but it's hard. Either it dies, I die because I'm not killing enemies, or I run out of enemies for it to kill.

I don't consider "good loot" as anything for straight up world drops. I legit think THIS is the only time I've ever found anything outside of the specific bosses who have increased drop chances for something, just a night ago.

Revolvers and combat rifles got gutted. Revolvers especially are way less diverse. No more mashers or slow, powerful revolvers, just gimmicky fan fire. I also prefer the weapon designs but that's personal preference.
