I'm currently playing through heartgold, but before that the last game I played was pearl back when it came out
I'd probably say crystal is my favorite, although I'm not sure how much of that is rose tinted glasses

It doesn't really have a story like the gamecube games, but it was great for Wifi Battles and it's also very pretty. Soundtrack was good too.

Its on-board story is basically Battle Factory
If you import your own Pokemon from DPPt, you're basically getting Battle Tower in gorgeous 3D.

It's a battle sim with awesome visuals. If you're really into the adventure aspect of Pokemon you'll be turned off by its lack of plot and lack of exploration.
It's worthwhile playing if Gen IV is one of your favorites and you care about spectacle.

by slow they mean literally slow, as in the player moves at a plodding pace and the animations take longer to complete themselves (specifically HP drain, which had the perfect speed in the Gen III games).
There's almost never Fire types in early game for Pokemon so that's not really the most valid complaint. It's just there aren't a lot of them even afterward in-game.

I stopped watching the anime during Diamond and Pearl because Cartoon Network got stuck on rerunning the episode with the Pokemon hunter that made them into statues or some shit. It took them forever to get new episodes so I just stopped caring about it all. I wish they actually went through with making Diamond and Pearl without Ash because he didn't appear in the first two episodes making it better with Dawn.

The starters for Diamond and Pearl were better than what we have now. Grass snake was trash, the narwhal four legged seal was okay, and fire boar thing was garbage. X/Y had slightly better starters but I only liked Froakie and have yet to try Sun/Moon.

The only gym leader I can remember from those games is Volkner. I genuinely don't see why I everyone loves the game so much. The original Japanese version has sweet remixes of game music and fitting battle music.

I have only beate the first 3 rounds, but my team was Swampert, Salamance and metagross.
I did play it on a romhack with phys/spec split and moves that were introduced in gen 4+.
Also it had an npc that maximized your IVs for 3 heartscales so my mons had max IVs, EV training and a positive nature.

I wish they would just put Ash in a situation that's out of his control again. The entire reason his first loss in the league is so heartbreaking is because it wasn't due to the fact he was a rookie trainer or an idiot, but things out of his control.

I can't remember the full details, but Ash's Pokemon were left exhausted from TR's interventions and he lost due to things totally out of his control, and the only Pokémon that was left was a disobedient Charizard. He was so close to winning, but everything was just out of his control.

It's better then him losing because his opponent used 6 Legendary Pokémon.

Ash has been getting fucked every season pretty reliably.

Honestly I’m fine with him losing to the legendaries, because he put up a hell of a fight despite the odds being vastly against his favor. Most of his league losses are just due to his retardation though, which is not enjoyable to watch, and honestly makes no sense considering how tenured he is in pokemon battles he is at this point.
